Holistic Spring Cleaning Tips
Importance of All Natural Ingredients
All natural, holistic cleaning products
are just as effective as those
expensive cleaning products you buy
at the store, and they’re not full of
harmful chemicals.
If you need cleaning products that are
safe, effective, and gentle, then check out
the various uses for things like:
• Vinegar
• Olive Oil
• Lemon Juice
• Sodium Bicarbonate
• Essential Oils
Getting Rid of Soap Scum and Lime Deposits
Soap scum, lime deposits, and greasy stains are found
most often in your bathroom and kitchen.
To get clean these messes with safe, natural
ingredients, all you really need is distilled white vinegar.
Mix ¼ to ½ cup of vinegar with water in a standard
spray bottle to tackle these types of stains and deposits.
This mixture can even be used to clean mirrors and
windows. If you need something stronger, use undiluted
vinegar instead.
Shining and Cleaning Wooden Surfaces
Wooden surfaces can be a little
tricky to keep clean because many
products will ruin finishes and
wood. To keep all wooden surfaces clean and
polished, Ilan Toledano recommends
using olive oil and lemon juice.
Lemon juice is a gentle cleaner for wood
furniture and counters, and by combining
1 cup of olive oil and ½ cup of lemon
juice, you can effectively polish and
maintain any wood products in your
home.
Bathroom and Kitchen Counters
Baking soda has long been used as a deodorizer,
and it is a versatile cleaning product.
It’s tough on kitchen and bathroom counters while
still being gentle on your skin and tabletops.
Just sprinkle the soda where you need it and
scrub with a wet cloth. Wipe clean and dry with a
new cloth when you’re finished.
All Natural Disinfectants
Many natural products are useful
for tough stains, but how well do
they disinfect? To make a simple disinfectant for
your counters and furniture, simply
mix together:
• 2 cups of water
• 30 drops of tea tree oil
• 3 tbs. of all natural liquid soap,
such as liquid castile soap.
Homemade Laundry Detergents
Ilan Toledano’s tips for holistic cleaners don’t
just stop at counter tops and tough stains. They
also take care of laundry as well.
For all natural laundry detergent, mix together:
• 1 cup of sodium bicarbonate (borax)
• 1 cup of washing soda
• 1 grated bar of castile soap or any other all
natural bar soap of your choice.
To get the soap in smaller pieces, put the
shavings through your food processor. Use 2
tbsp. whenever you’re doing laundry.
Stain Removers
To take care of stubborn stains, look no
further then lemon juice and hydrogen
peroxide. For an all natural stain-
fighting bleach, mix together:
• 1 cup of peroxide
• 3 tbsp. of lemon juice
• 15 cups of water.
Store it all in a clean jug and
refill your spray bottle as
necessary.
