Food Habits– Following 5 constituents are there in food;

- Usha-paan (drink water as you get up)- Buttermilk after a short break after lunch- Warm milk before going to bed- The growth of body takes place till 25 yrs. Consume food rich in protein to support body

growth– After 25 yrs of age, focus on the food which helps maintain the temperature of body like

alkaline.

Carbohydrates Grains - Wheat, Rice, Barley 50-60%

Protien Pulses, Groundnut, Soyabean, Milk 15-20%

FatsOil, Ghee, Groundnut, Coconut, Sesame, Mustard

• How to eat?– Mind should be calm & relaxed ; glands get

dried– Allow teeth complete their work i.e

grind/chew properly to make life easier for stomach & intestine

– 32 times chewing each morsel as per Ayurveda

– Liquids (water, milk etc) should be retained in mouth before gulping.

– Consider food as nectar (Amrit). Finding faults in food & getting angry is not a good habit.

– Keep gap of atleast 1 hr between food & water.

• How much to eat?– Eat less than capacity (Avg. 2000 calories [+/- 10%] to be consumed)

– Ayurveda suggests - 50% Food + 25% Water + 25% Air.

– Laziness results out of overeating, eat less than hunger to be energetic

Sukhasan

•Bend your left leg and keep it under the thigh of your right leg. •Bend your right leg and keep it under the thigh of your left leg. •Straighten your spine, sit erect with hands on the knees. •Stay for one minute, meditating and come back to the original position. Benefits: This helps to increase the digestive fire and gives good appetite, health and happiness. This is good for children.

Padmasana

• Bend the left leg and bring the left foot on the right thigh. • Bend the right leg and bring the right foot on the left

thigh. • Keep your spine vertical in line with the neck. • Keep your arms straight and hands resting on the knees,

palms upward and thumbs and forefingers joined. Other fingers outstretched.

• Stay like that for a minute in meditation and come back to the original position in the reverse order.

Benefits: This helps develop concentration of mind; gives relaxation and peace of mind.

Siddhasana

• Place the left heel at the anus, the terminal opening of the alimentary canal or digestive tube.

• Keep the right heel on the root of the generative organ.It should be in a way, that the knees and the heels, both lie upon the other.

• The hands must be placed on either sole of  the feet. Keep the eyes half closed.

Benefits: This helps in concentration and clarity of mind, memory improvement, digestion and the faculty of the mind.It is also beneficial to those suffering from wet dreams.

upwards. • Pull all your lower abdominal organs and

Uddyan Bandha – how to..

• Stand straight with feet and shoulder wide apart. Lower your body and place your hands on your thighs, palms inward.

• Exhale deeply through the mouth. Holding your breath, pull your abdominal muscles in and suck in your stomach to create a hollow space.

• Hold for as long as possible. • Stand upright and then inhale.

Jalandhar Bandha – how to..

• Sit in Padmasana or Vajrasana. Keep your back straight. Inhale deeply, fill your lungs with air, keep your chest high and hold your breath.

• Slowly bend your chin down and press it hard on your neck.

• Hold your breath for 30 seconds to one minute. Continue to hold your breath and raise your chin, straightening your neck.

• Exhale through the nose.
