SECTION 4 December 20, 1976 Current plans, via reports from Florida, reveal the Clyde Beatty-Circus will open its 1977 sea- son during the second week of April, retaining its present full title and the bulk of performing talent carried with the show in 1976. The booking format, however, has been total- ly revamped. Beatty will play 3 and 4 day dates (perhaps longer) and principally in shopping centers. This is a major departure for a show that has played one day stands for the most part during its long season. There are strong indications that a dramatic re- shuffling of the staff is imminent: otherwise everything remains the same, including the first- class band, helmed by Charles Bertini. As for the sister shows: King-Cole will have a new performance featuring a flying act, a cat act and apparently a great deal of Mexican tal- ent, under a 90x200 push-pole top. King-Cole opens in Brunswick (Ga) on April 10th and will appear in larger cities than it has in the past several seasons. James Monroe has been named the King-Cole side show manager. Hagen-Wallace, Sells & Gray will be the first of the three shows out of the bam, opening at Tam- pa on April 3rd. Elephant man Gary Thomas takes over as canvas boss on the big top which was used by King this past season. H-W, S&G side show manager Henry Thompson will begin painting the new titles on trucks in February. •77 PlansPlans are now mushrooming for the 1977 tourof Puck's Traveling Circus, a Canadian showthat tours throughout the Province of Ontario, playing shopping centers, special events; allstands of five days or more. The circus will ap-pear for its third straight year at the CNE, un-der the big top, and under sponsorship.Puck's Circus is partially funded by Winterio, aProvincial Lottery, and is set-up as a "non-pro-fit foundation". Its eventual goal is to be Cana-da's National Circus."This aspect of the show," Frazier Mohawk toldCR, "is not publicized and, naturally, all thepeople involved in the circus, staff, performers, etc., are paid a salary."Puck's Circus uses a 60 ft. round top with one30 ft. middle, and is now setting its perform-ance for the new season. Returning will beRumpy, the Clown, and possibly Les Weldons,a French act, who do trapeze, balancing and agorilla parody.Frazier Mohawk revealed to CR that the Quebec

MAGICWhat do you do to a four-ton elephant? Yousay "Abracadabra!" and it disappears. At leastthat's what you do if you are magician DougHenning. His second Mobil Showcase special will be tele-cast on NBC on Dec. 23rd (Check your locallistings for time and station).Henning plans to mystify his audience with an"organic" series of illusions (involving water, fire and air), plus his disappearing elephant. Now you can own 18" x 24" hand-signed First Edition Prints of detailed drawings and paintingsof the great parade wagons of the golden past. No museum has them — no collector has them —no photograph can do them justice. But here they are, living images printed on the finest papersavailable in limited editions of 1000 per subject by the world renowned circus artist Robert E.Weaver.Born in the "Circus City" Peru. Indiana. Bob Weaver grew up with circuses and circus people,so it is only natural that he be the one destined to portray the American Circus in all its gloryand nostalgia as no other person can. Professor Weaver's circus drawings and paintings madehim world famous even before he received his degree in Fine Arts from The Herron School of Artof Indiana University — Purdue University at Indianapolis where he is a senior member of thefaculty. A painting of the Loyal Family performing one of its spectacular pyramidal feats atopthree white horses in Madison Square Garden, New York City, won for him the covetedChaloner-Paris Prize in a national competition open to all young artists in the United States. This proved to be the beginning of an illustrious career which has included works in major artshows across the U. S., and receipt of numerous accolades, and representation in many privateand public art collections. His drawings from which these magnificent large prints have been made have a nostalgic qual-ity and a dedication to accuracy never before achieved graphically. Circus fan. historian, modelbuilder, decorator, etc. will regard each one of them as a found treasure and investment. Wehave chosen an off-white cream Vellum cover stock of the highest quali ty and rich Sepia inkwhich combine in a mellow wealth relating to the subjects' time in history. Kvery circus room, family room. den. trophy room, travel home. etc.. should have them. We guarantee you wil l bedelighted and satisfied wi th these valuable, historically accurate, circus prints.
