Holden grew out of a desire to create products that make people happier and healthier—whether through sustainable business and production practices or by making excellent, enduring products that bring joy to people’s lives. The company—run independently by the original founders out of it’s headquarters in Portland, Oregon—is a widely recognized leader in style trends, fabric and technical innovations, and environmentally committed outerwear.

The Story so far... Holden was founded in 2002 by renowned professional

snowboarder Mikey LeBlanc and designer Scott Zergebel. The two

set out to change the look of technical outerwear by developing

apparel equally suitable for wearing on the street and the mountain.

Their goal—integrating beautiful design, tailored fits, and high-quality

technical features for a fusion of fashion and function.

Starting with Holden’s first collection, Scott brought a keen eye for

the subtle elements that define timeless design. He quickly developed

an unparalleled attention to detail, while Mikey added to the equation

years of experience using technical outerwear to the limit. Both Scott

and Mikey came in with a passion for sustainability, pursuing this with

their factories and suppliers by asking the hard questions about

production processes and continually pushing vendors to furnish bet-

ter eco-friendly options.

Since Holden’s inception, our premium sports apparel has garnered awards and set industry-wide trends.

We’re proud to call ourselves pioneers of the eco outerwear niche—every single Holden product is made

with sustainability in mind. Our company ethos reflects a dedication to timeless design, excellent

fabrication, and respect for the environment.

During those first few years, Holden changed the face of the ski and

snowboard outerwear industry. The brand hired in-house tailors and

spent countless hours refining ergonomics to create a classic

tailored fit that both suits your body and moves with it too. The

highly recognizable “Holden fit” is a complete departure from

traditional outerwear.

In terms of fabric, Holden has always steered away from cheap,

crinkly nylon in favor of something softer and more organic.

Instead of picking from pre-made fabrics, the company began

developing fabrics in-house. In 2005 Holden released a ground-

breaking new hemp-fiber outerwear fabric that was highly

waterproof and much more environmentally friendly than the

polyester and nylon fabrics on the market at the time. Since that

time Holden has continued to push forward and find the best

options for a better way to operate a responsible business.

A History Lesson 3.2.

Timeless Design

Holden’s apparel is designed with the old adage of quality over

quantity in mind. Our goal is to use beautiful, timeless design to

create enduring styles that can be worn season after season. From

colors and cuts to design inspiration, our garments are created to

be classics. Buy a coat and keep it for life, instead of tossing

it after a season in favor of something that’s “in style.”

From operations to aesthetics, Holden embodies three core values.

Excellence in Fabrication

The concept of fit and fabric goes beyond simple aesthetics.

Apparel’s texture, weight, and how it follows the human form are also

crucial to function. Holden labors over these elements, perfecting

fits, infusing unique and exceptional design details, developing new

fabrics, and always using the best possible factories and production

processes. It’s about doing it with ingenuity and excitement, and the

difference speaks for itself.

From distinctive trims and other premium details to the place a belt

or pocket sits, Holden’s aesthetic is subtle and fine tuned. Our

garments offer the customer a passageway to discovering the many

artful design elements contained within.

The widely celebrated “Holden fit” completely distinguishes us from

our competitors. We’ve spent countless hours in development to

perfect our tailored fit. The Holden fit is not tight and not huge. It’s

very simply designed for movement.

We utilize progressive materials like Toray Dermizax (a high-quality,

ultra-waterproof and breathable Japanese textile application with a

rich, soft texture) and our innovative Schoeller® three-layer fabric to

ensure that our outerwear excels in the face of extreme conditions

and hard-wearing activities. Holden also develops many of our fabrics

in-house instead of just taking what the suppliers hand to us. This

includes the award-winning performance Hemp fabric we created and

improved upon, as well as this season’s extraordinary 20K Genuine

Denim which we worked long and hard to perfect simply because we

didn’t like what was being offered in the market place. The fabrics

Holden doesn’t create in-house are all sourced far and wide from

quality vendors who use utilize good production processes.

Eco-Friendlier Construction

No product is 100% “eco friendly.” That’s why Holden products are

“eco-friendlier.” It’s our honest way of telling you that we’re always

striving our hardest to be as earth-friendly as possible while acknowl-

edging that we can never be perfect. Every Holden customer can

know that when they buy Holden, they’re getting a product made

with as little waste as possible and supporting people who are work-

ing hard to protect our environment.

For Holden, creating environmentally friendly products represents a

moral imperative, not just adding a trendy feature set. The company

does more than simply establish a token “green collection.” We inject

sustainability into everything we do. Holden products utilize recycled

zippers and insulation and offer a water-resistant fabric coating that’s

PFOA-free simply because it’s the right thing to do. We even package

our products in fully biodegradable, acetate ethylene bags.

Holden spends countless hours and resources innovating in the

eco field. From developing the world’s first and an award winning

“eco-friendlier” performance hemp fabric to improving upon the

environmentally minded Schoeller® c_change™ 3-layer technology,

this company is thoroughly dedicated to evolving the eco niche we

helped pioneer. In keeping with this, Holden is introducing Recyclon

for 2011, an exceptional nylon oxford fabric from Japan.

The widely celebrated “Holden fit” completely distinguishes us from our competitors. We’ve spent countless hours in development to per-fect our tailored fit. The Holden fit is not tight and not huge. It’s very simply designed for movement.

Jackets: We design our jackets for a comfortable fit. Not baggy and not tight. We offer a consistent fit throughout the line so you can be

sure to get the same great fit from style to style. The only area Holden jackets vary in fit is in length, i.e. we have longer fitting peacoats and

military styles and some shorter length styles. We take our commitment to a standard fit very seriously to ensure our customer’s needs are met

from season to season.

Pants: Our pant fit is known for its exceptional movement and distinct look. When measured flat our pants specifications are very similar to

those of our competitors. However that is where most stop and we push on. A great fit only materializes when you work with the actual paper

patterns and fit your samples. We continue to bring in master tailors with decades of experience and mix that with our collective experience of

what needs to fit and how people actually use a garment for the best possible outcome. Our pants fit straight through the seat, thigh and leg.

Our slightly forward slanting waistband hits at the waist and sits slightly higher in the back. We use zippers or snap closures at the leg hem for

a proper over the boot fit.

We have also developed a “Skinny fit” which is found on the Men’s and Women’s Genuine Denim Pants and the all versions of the Standard

Pants in the Men’s and Women’s Classics collection. The Skinny fit is tighter and more fitted than our Regular fit. A higher rise sits comfortably

at the waist. Made narrowly through the seat and thigh, it flares below the knee to a slightly defined boot-cut with longer zippers for proper

over the boot closure.

The Holden snowboard boot and Sk8-Hi shoe project began as an

interactive product exploration between Vans and Holden and lead

to a discovery of the common values and design sensibilities the

two brands share. The result of this truly collaborative process was a

perfect blend of Holden’s progressive yet timeless approach to ma-

terialization and detailing built around the foundation of Vans’ classic

stylization.

The Holden boot features premium leather and the same innovative

recycled nylon found in the Holden outerwear line. Recyclon is a

59% recycled nylon oxford pioneered in one of the premium textile

labs in Japan. Finished with an 80/20 DWR finish to keep the surface

clean and dry Recyclon embodies durability, protection and classic

military style.

The design sensibilities and common values that the Vans and Holden brands share led to this exceptional

Sk8-Hi shoe and snowboard boot collaboration. Holden’s progressive approach to materialization and

detailing meshed with Vans’ classic stylization and resulted in this premium quality offering which bridges

the gap between the street and the mountain. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did creating it. The HOLDEN RE-UNION Binding

Long lasting friendships and mutual business respect led to the collaboration between the Union and

Holden brands. Union bindings have quickly become known for their high standards of quality, durability

and exceptional comfort. Holden also shares these values and when we approached the collaboration we

fused these shared directives into the binding. The result is a unique and limited collaboration reflecting

the style and timelessness of each brand.

Unlike other waterproof laminates,

c_change™ is an eco-conscious,

active-waterproofing technology

that’s constantly changing according

to your fluxuating body temperature.

As interior temps rise and moisture

builds, the membrane opens to

disperse excess heat. As tempera-

tures dip, it closes to effectively seal

out cold air. It’s the best of both

worlds—fresh air flowing through

when you’re warm and working

hard, and a cold-blocking barrier for

deeply frigid moments.

NanoSphere® DWR: We’ve also

Phantom Weave with a DWR exterior

that easily repels water and dirt.

Mimicking a natural self-cleaning

effect found on certain plants, this

super-fine finish simply won’t allow

things like dirt, grease, and other

meeting the high requirements of the

Super Stretch Twill

Featuring an exceptionally water-

proof and breathable 96% nylon/

4% spandex blend, this “super-

stretch” twill weave delivers superior

mobility and comfort, making it ideal

for dynamic activity. It has a heavier

hand that’s soft yet durable and pro-

tective, and it registers a 20,000 mm

waterproofness and 10,000

g/m2 breathability rating, and its

eco-friendlier 80/20 PFOA-free water-

repellency treatment drastically limits

the harmful emissions caused by

traditional DWR applications.

Embossed Leather

Classic leather embodies timeless

style, but it’s not functional in winter

environments. So in the spirit of inno-

vation we developed this waterproof-

breathable leather look-alike. An

embossed texture emulates the look

and feel of real worn-in leather on

this rougher-hand, mid-weight 100%

polyester fabric. Tested at 20,000

mm waterproofness and 20,000 g/m2

breathability, the Embossed Leather

is highly functional, and versatile, and

its 80/20 PFOA-free water-repellency

treatment drastically limits the harm-

ful emissions caused by traditional

DWR applications.

Kimono Arrowhead (Super-Stretch)

Outfitted with Toray’s top of the line

Dermizax™ laminate technology for

excellent wind and waterproofness

and superior breathability (20,000

mm and 10,000 g/m2), this is a one-

of-a-kind fabric in the world of snow

outerwear. Using a printing process

that is itself an art form, Kimono

Arrowhead is made on the Japanese

seacoast at a premier kimono printing

house in the traditional style. Kimono

Arrowhead has superior stretch prop-

erties for comfort and freedom of

movement.

20K Genuine Denim

Denim is an institution—people al-

ways have and always will wear it.

In recognition of this, we’ve devel-

oped a 16 oz, 100% cotton-twill Genuine

Denim that’s both durable and

authentic. It wears and fades like real

denim, yet it’s still exceptionally func-

tional in winter environments, with a

rating of 20,000 mm waterproofness

and 10,000 g/m2 breathability.
