Underground workMapei has played an important role in the M4 line project by supplying products for work on concrete structures, for substrates and resin flooring, and for laying down porcelain tiles and glass mosaics. Main contractor on the M4 line project is Swietelsky Magyarország Kft. Working with Lukács és Társa Kft, Swietelsky Magyarország also installed resin flooring. Duoflex-Pool Kft carried out mosaic tiling, while Ratskó-Bau Kft installed grès tiling.

For the underground concrete structures, Mapei supplied several products. For example, at the Rákóczi Square, contractors used Eporip (a two-component epoxy adhesive) for monolithic sealing of cracks in screeds, which were subsequently restored with a layer of Mapegrout Thixotropic fibre-reinforced mortar for concrete repair; at the Fővám Square, Mapefinish (another cementitious mortar) was employed, applied in 1-3 mm thickness, for finishing concrete walls; and at the Etele Square, concrete was repaired with Mapegrout T40 (a medium-strength, reinforced thixotropic mortar), and surfaces levelled and smoothed with Planitop 550.

Visible concrete in public areas at the Népszínház Street station was treated with an osmotic cementitious mortar for waterproofing masonry and concrete structures, Idrosilex Pronto.

Resistant flooringMapei resin flooring systems were used in public spaces, gangways and corridors as well as in the M4 line operating rooms, for a total area of about 20,000 sq m. In both operating rooms and depositories, the screeds were primed with the solvent-free, epoxy resin-based Primer SN. Subsequently, Mapecoat I 620 W (a two-component, water-based epoxy coating with a shiny finish) was applied on the substrates to provide an anti-dust oil resistant finishing treatment. The product was supplied in a neutral colour, so that it could be mixed directly on site with Mapecolor Paste in the colour required.

Ventilation ducts and other places requiring minimum impregnation were primed with Mapecoat I 600 W, also tinted with Mapecolor Paste. To make it dust repellent and easily cleanable, Mapecoat I 600 W was also applied on the reinforced concrete.

Concrete surfaces in the depositories were primed with Primer SN, which was added with Quartz 0.5. The surface was then dusted with Quartz 0.5 using the wet-on-wet technique. The following day, the excess quartz sand was vacuumed off, the surface

was sanded and all traces of dust and debris were also vacuumed off. The next stage was to trowel on a coat of smoothing compound, and in this case Mapefloor I 300 SL (a two-component, neutral-coloured, multi-purpose epoxy resin for industrial flooring) was used, tinted with Mapecolor Paste. At the various stations along the line, around 4,000 sq m of seamless flooring was installed using Ultratop self-levelling mortar, creating flooring that is highly resistant to abrasion. The laying bed was initially prepared by trowelling on a coat of Primer SN. Then, after applying the primer, the surface was dusted with Quartz 1.2 to ensure perfect adhesion of the Ultratop, which was then applied by pump.

The final stage was to apply Mapefloor Finish 50 aliphatic polyurethane finish with a roller to give the flooring better resistance to wear. In the areas that had to be impermeable to water vapour (around 5,000 sq m), a coat of Mapefloor I 914 epoxy primer was applied.

Mosaic tilingGrès porcelain tiles were laid in the operating rooms, gangways and store rooms of 10 stations. Adesilex P9 (a cementitious adhesive with no vertical slip and extended open time) was used for laying, while Keracolor FF Flex (a high performance, polymer-modified, cement-based grout for joints up to 6 mm) was used for grouting. Mapesil AC was used for sealing the coverings.

Several metro stations were decorated with spectacular mosaics designed by artists and architects. Each mosaic had its own size and pattern, and each one had different technical problems to overcome. Surfaces were primed with Eco Prim Grip universal bonding promoter Primer, or Eporip in cases where the surface

had to be restored and levelled with either Mapegrout Gunite (a ready-to-use, multi-purpose cementitious mortar) or Planitop Fast 330 (a quick-setting, fibre-reinforced cementitious mortar). Smoothing was done with Monofinish (a one-component, normal setting cementitious mortar). After the preparation of the substrates, the glass tiles were laid with Keraflex S1 (a high performance cementitious adhesive with no vertical slip and Low Dust technology) and Elastorapid (a two-component, high performance, highly-deformable cementitious adhesive). Ultracolor Plus and Keracolor FF Flex were used for grouting tile joints. Keraflex S1 and Keracolor FF Flex are manufactured and distributed on the Hungarian market by Mapei Kft.

ElastorapidElastorapid is a two-component, high performance, highly-deformable, quick-setting and drying cementitious adhesive with no vertical slip and extended open time for ceramic tiles and stone material. Elastorapid can be used for bonding to internal and external walls and floors of all types and sizes of ceramic tiles, natural stone and artificial materials which are slightly sensitive to humidity. It has high bonding strength after only two to three hours and, therefore, floor and wall coverings may be put into service very quickly. According to Mapei, it can contribute up to four points to obtain the LEED certification. n

SYDNEY UNDERGROUNDThe Sydney Opera House is home

to as many as 1,700 performances each year, with more than 8.2 million

visitors. It is one of Australia’s most popular landmarks and a highly frequented tourist spot due to the surrounding businesses and bars. Currently visitors and pedestrians share the open area in front of the Opera House with up to 1,000 heavy vehicles daily. A large-scale logistics and traffic concept is in place to relieve the traffic situation around this congested area.

The John Ho l l and Group was commissioned, as part of the A$100 million project, to move the heavy-load traffic underground, in order to make the open area in front of the Opera House safer and more clearly arranged for pedestrians. By 2014 an underground loading area and new entry routes, as well as a sewer with storage capacity and overflow for possible storm tides, will be provided.

The Australian sales and service partner, Pace Cranes, delivered a new Sennebogen 613 telescopic crawler crane to Preston Group in mid 2013, which then

sub hired it to John Holland. The compact telescopic crane fully exploits it strengths, particularly in these confined conditions. With a height of merely 2.90 m and maximum length of 6.2 m, in retracted status, the machine is particularly manoeuvrable, thanks to the crawler travel gear, and with the telescoping undercarriage it is always safe and stable.

In this version, as a 16 t telescopic crane with crawler running gear, the compact Sennebogen machine is unique in the industry. Combined with a drilling rig, the crane is used for establishing the foundations of the sub-construction. To do this, the 613 R lifts the approximately 3 t steel mesh netting pipes into the bores. The crane can be conveniently moved even under load. This means that it can also be used for moving heavy components and material.

The flexibility of the machine pays for itself, particularly in the confined environment. The 613 R is powered by a 91 kW Deutz diesel engine and equipped with a 35 kN winch. Thus safe working loads to 16 t are easily possible. The elevating, comfortable Multicab offers the operator an excellent overview of the implementation area and valuable added safety that is advantageous in the confined spatial conditions. n

Bulk Transport Equipment (BTE) in Melbourne is also a certified Hardox In My Body member, which uses Hardox in its range of heavy duty semi tippers, built for demolition. “All of our steel bodies use Hardox 450 steel,” said Alan Griffiths, managing director of BTE. “It is one of the toughest steels on the market – and its impressive resistance to wear means you can use less of it in a truck body, keeping the overall weight of the trailer low or build a very tough body that will withstand the punishment.”

Mr Griffiths said that many of his customers in the demolition haulage industry have commented on the superior performance of BTE’s tipper bodies compared to those made of less tough steels. “Hardox steel offers superior resistance to denting and wear from hard materials like rock and metal. Our tipper bodies can withstand high impact and heavy weights – where other milder steels would dent and wear prematurely,” said Mr Griffiths.

SSAB also manufactures Domex – the advanced high strength steel for lighter vehicles transport solutions. Domex offers a great balance between yield strength, impact toughness and hardness to suit any light transport application. “Domex is an easy product to use as it doesn’t require any specialist machinery to cut or shape,” explained Matthew Spiteri, SSAB’s regional sales manager in Asia Pacific. “Our customers find Domex to be the perfect solution for lighter transportation vehicles because of its malleable properties and the range of thicknesses we offer.”

SSAB’s range of high strength steels features excellent toughness, thanks to the use of high quality raw materials and its environmentally sound manufacturing techniques. In addition, SSAB places care for the environment very highly in its priorities with numerous environmental certifications, including ISO 14001, ISO/TS 16949 and ISO 9001, to name a few. n

A TALL STORY

Queensland bridgesAustralian crane rental giant Universal Cranes was recently involved in two bridge projects in Queensland, Australia - the Robinson Road overpass in central Brisbane, and the Bruce Highway Bridge near Calliope in central Queensland.

The Robinson Road overpass is part of an A$199 million open level crossing replacement project, being run by main contractors BMD Constructions and SMEC Australia.

The 64 m Bruce Highway Bridge is part of the A$150 million Calliope Crossroads project, which will see main contractor Golding Contractors upgrade a large portion of the region’s road transport network.

Universal Cranes rel ied on two Manitowoc crawler cranes to build the Robinson Road overpass, a 400 t capacity 16000 and a 100 t capacity 12000. The Manitowoc 16000 erected 18 precast concrete beams, measuring 34 m long and weighing 58 t, in 24 hours, minimising outage on the rail line. The 12000 was used to rig the 16000 once on site, and provided general support.

On the Bruce Highway Bridge project, Universal Cranes used its Grove GMK7450. The 450 t capacity crane installed 22 precast concrete beams, measuring 33 m long and weighing 74 t, across a two-week period.

The GMK7450 was transported to the job site from its base in Brisbane, 450 km away. The crane unloaded each of the 22 beams from Universal Cranes own Heavy Haulage Transport Fleet and then installed them.

According to Manitowoc, the GMK7450’s Mega Wing Lift capacity enhancing attachment meant the crane could be rigged in less than four hours. The crane could also be repositioned in less than two hours, partly due to its superior carrier, which allows it to be moved while partially rigged, said the company.

Universal Cranes used specially-designed rigging systems on each project. For the GMK7450 a purpose-built lattice spreader was used to lift the large loads with sling angles as low as 5 degrees against the beam inserts, reducing stress on each insert while perfectly balancing the load. The unique set up also reduced rigging time as the crew could quickly and easily sling the beam. In addition, a lightweight spacer beam system was used with the Manitowoc 16000 crawler crane, which enabled Universal Cranes to perform rigging separation quickly.

Key to the speed of the two projects was the cranes’ quick set-up and precise load control, as well as Universal Cranes’ specially-designed lattice spreader, said Nick Morris, engineering and sales manager at Universal Cranes. “Manitowoc designs all its cranes to be quick and easy to set up, and their smooth movement makes them ideal for picking almost any load. Add to that our unique spreader and we can be very efficient on almost any job site, keeping time and cost to a minimum for our customers.”

Wellington hotelIn New Zealand, main contractor Dominion Constructors recently converted an old office block into a 15-storey luxury hotel in Wellington’s downtown area with the help of a Potain MR 225 A luffing-jib crane.

The 14 t capacity MR 225 A was anchored to the building at a height of 26 m. The crane was erected in March 2013 and expected to remain at the NZ$35 million project until early 2014. It was supplied by Tidd Ross Todd, Manitowoc’s New Zealand dealer.

Rigged with a full 55 m jib and at a working height of 52 m, the crane was stripping the office block to its basic skeleton and deconstructing the top level of the building. After which it would add six more floors, lifting a variety of general construction materials, including concrete, rebar and glass.

During the construction, a 6.5-magnitude earthquake occurred. Windows were smashed, buildings damaged and part of the city’s port fell into the sea. However, the crane was said to withstand the earthquake and return to work with almost no delay, after a thorough inspection found no damage.

“A 6.5 quake is no small matter. While an earthquake is not part of the usual crane testing process, we can now vouch for the stability and strength of Potain tower cranes, even in such extreme conditions,” said Grant Thomas, senior project manager at Dominion.

Continued from page 108...

Thankfully, the crane was not in use at the time of the earthquake, which struck on Sunday 21 July 2013. It was believed to be the strongest quake to hit the region since 1942, with train services being shut and dozens of buildings damaged.

“We represent the world’s best brands that are made to the highest quality standards, and we supply these cranes using the most skilled people. This earthquake proves our business model works – and we are just thankful that no one was badly hurt,” commented Robert Carden, engineering director at Tidd Ross Todd. n

Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne, the venue for the 2015 Australian Open tennis tournament, was recently renovated with 1,500 new seats and a state-of-the art retractable roof.

As some of the work was being undertaken outside of daylight hours, the contractors needed safe, bright lighting to illuminate the total working area.

The construction manager contacted Tower Light’s Australian dealer, PR Power, to help provide a solution. After surveying the site, PR Power advised that the Tower Light PR4000 lighting set, fitted with a 360° balloon would be the ideal answer to ensure that unvarying light was projected to all four corners of the arena.

The PR4000 is a variant of Tower Light’s flagship VT1 product fitted with a balloon lighting envelope. The balloon lighting utilises 4 x 1,000 W metal-halide lamps and produces 360° glare free light. The lamps are housed inside a heavy-duty balloon envelope, which helps to protect the lamps from possible damage. The super silent PR4000 mobile lighting tower is supplied by PR Power into the Australian market and has been manufactured to meet European ISO9001 regulations together with all Australian safety standards. The PR4000 lighting tower is ideal for use in road works, construction, civil works, quarries, mining, rail and event applications.

The PR4000 has 9-m 360° vertical hydraulic mast with single lever operation, enabling one person to safely erect the mast in less than 30 seconds. According to Tower Light, the complete unit has been tested in wind speed in excess of 75 miles per hour. The PR4000 also has a number environmental attributes, including a full bund for all fluids and whisper quiet noise levels of just 65 d(b)a.

As well as designing and manufacturing bespoke lighting products, Tower Light has the necessary experience and ability to adapt and modify its existing range of lighting sets to suit individual applications.

PR Power is an Australian owned and operated company, specialising in the supply for sale and rental of a range of quality equipment Australia wide. The company has depots in Queensland, Western Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and the Northern Territory.

Inspectors in northern New South Wales, Australia, needed to view the underside of a road bridge spanning a river. They required an access platform that was light enough to lower using a mobile

crane, yet also had the ability to drive across – and operate on – uneven and boggy terrain.

For this, they chose an Ommelift 2750 RXBDJ battery-diesel hybrid crawler-mounted boom. The machine’s compact dimensions and light weight of 5,050 kg meant it could be safely lowered off the bridge using a 20 t mobile crane. Capable of driving, setting up and working on gradients of up to 35 percent, the Ommelift was easily able to traverse boggy ground and loose shale, before setting up on the edge of the gravel riverbed. The inspectors used large outrigger pads in order to spread the load, ensuring safe set-up and operation.

The 2750 RXBDJ is the largest spider in Omme Lift’s RX range. Its articulated pantograph boom design enables working flush with a vertical wall. It provides a maximum working height of 27.5 m, zero tail swing, excellent up-and-over capabilities as well as good outreach from the telescopic upper section (maximum outreach 15.5 m) and a jib for added flexibility. This working envelope enabled the inspector to access the entire bridge from one set-up position.

Scandinavian build quality, all steel boom construction, high specification components and simple but high performance design make the 2750 RXBDJ an ideal hire and rental product. Other key features include a travel width of just 1.5 m (reducing to 1.1 m for narrow gaps) and variable stabiliser positioning for working in restricted spaces.

The inspection team procured the specialist machine from Monitor Industries Pty Ltd, the official Ommelift dealer in Australia

and New Zealand. Monitor Industries is the exclusive importer, hirer and distributor of specialised aerial access equipment for Australia and New Zealand. The company brought the first ever spider lifts into Australia in 1998. With sales and service outlets in all major cities, Monitor Industries is now recognised nationally as the ‘difficult access specialist’ throughout Australasia. n

products under real jobsite conditions - giving them the knowledge they need to make educated purchasing decisions. Popular returning events included the John Deere Operator Challenge, Western Star Serious Trucks Challenge, the Spec Mix Bricklayer 500 competition, MCAA’s Fastest Trowel on the Block and International Masonry Skills Challenge, SAIA’s Safety Boot Camp, Roller Compacted Concrete LIVE!, Pervious Concrete LIVE!, and the new ISEA Fall Protection Showcase, to name a few.

In addition, World of Concrete and MCAA signed an agreement extending their partnership for another three years, which will continue to bring MCAA events such as the Fastest Trowel on the Block and the International Masonry Skills Challenge to World of Concrete, along with a robust education programme specifically geared for masonry professionals.

In a remarkable display of skill and speed, Jerry Goodman captured both the First Place and Top Craftsman titles at the 2014 Spec Mix Bricklayer 500 competition during Masonry Madness Day. It is said to be the first time anyone has won both honours in the 11-year history of the event that crowns the World’s Best Bricklayer. Mr Goodman has been a mason for 40 years and works for Jerry Goodman & Sons Masonry in Blythewood, South Carolina; it was his second appearance at the national event. Other Spec Mix Bricklayer 500 winners included Steve Cleveland (second place), Midwest Masonry, Mundelein, Illinois; Filipe Orfao (third place), Squire Masonry, Cookstown, Ontario, Canada; and Tony Shelton (toughest tender) , Creative Masonry, Kingsport, Tennessee.

Various eventsDuring the week, four informative luncheons and forums took place. At the Concrete Homes Luncheon & Forum, sponsored by the Portland Cement Association, Jonathan Smoke, chief economist

of Hanley Wood, described current market conditions in states that have been identified as areas of the greatest risk of damage due to natural disasters such as high wind loads and severe seismic activity. Using data generated by Metrostudy, of key metropolitan areas, Mr Smoke forecast that 73 percent of single-family starts in 2014 will be located in these high-risk areas. These results of the exclusive HW research suggest strong market segment growth for concrete home building systems as local jurisdictions adopt stricter building codes.

CIM (Concrete Industry Management) held its annual unreserved silent and live auctions at the show with all proceeds benefitting the CIM Programme. The silent and live auctions raised US$810,000 and were deemed a major success.

The 12th annual ‘Most Innovative Products’ contest showcased the best new products of 2014. Attendees browsed product entries at participating exhibitors’ booths and cast their votes at the show or online to determine the most ‘innovative product of the year.’

To honour hardworking crews in the construction industry, World of Concrete created the ‘Crews That Rock’ contest sponsored exclusively by BASF. Crews submitted stories and photos of their inspiring projects from the past year. This year’s contest included four Grand Prize winners, including an Online Audience Award and Experts’ Choice Award, in two categories: Commercial/For-Profit and Community Service/Not-for-Profit. Winners under the Commercial/For-Profit category were Webcor Builders (Online Audience Award) and JT Wimsatt Contracting Company Inc (Experts’ Choice Award). Winners under the Community Service/Not-for-Profit category were Denes Concrete Inc (Online Audience Award) and Gerace Construction Company Inc (Experts’ Choice Award).

The Power Curber 5700-C curb and gutter machine from Power Curbers can be used in many applications including sidewalk, barrier wall, pathway paving up to 3.5 m wide and agricultural foundations. Despite the variety of applications, the basic machine remains the same while only a mould or form changes from job to job.

Although traditionally viewed as a curb and gutter machine, recent infrastructure projects worldwide have created opportunities for the 5700-C to pour more barrier wall than ever. At 12-tons, the 5700-C now pours step barrier, variable barrier, U-shaped ditches, and experienced contractors are now able to pour barrier wall up to 1.5 m high.

Throughout its development the 5700 series has added many new features and improvements. In 1994, the auger conveyor was added to the machine, replacing the high maintenance belt conveyor system. According to Power Curbers, the auger conveyor mixes concrete better providing a better finish through the mould; with a capacity of nearly 1 cu m, the auger holds much more concrete than a belt. The company explained that belt conveyors also tend to throw concrete all over the machine, creating a clean-up nightmare at the day’s end; while with its enclosed cover, the auger system keeps the machine cleaner, without concrete splatter building up on hydraulic lines and pumps.

The 5700-C’s hydraulically controlled mould offset allows tremendous flexibility for the machine operator on the jobsite. Hydraulic mould sideshift and vertical adjustment allows the operator to pour below grade, avoid concrete drains and lift off steel at the end of a run. For contractors involved in parking lot work, the 5700-C turns a radius of less than 1 m. This tight radius steering allows contractors to pour parking lot islands, eliminating expensive handwork.

Other enhancements include a right-hand pour option in addition to the traditional left hand set-up. Power Curbers said contractors faced with projects that force them to pour with the flow of traffic love the ability to go from left to right hand pouring. Converting the machine from left to right side pour is simple and only takes a few hours.

POWER CURBER

Power Curbers’ Smart Amp controls give the machine the sophistication of digitally networked systems with the ease and simplicity of analogue controls. Inexperienced operators can easily be trained on this system, said the company. Standard equipment on the Power Curber 5700-C includes a 130 hp Cummins engine, three Berco crawlers, two Wyco vibrators, four sensors, and one curb and gutter mould built to specifications. n

McLanahan Corporation exhibited for the first time at the show, introducing its water recycling solutions. The company offers a line of filter presses with the ability to separate concrete fines from wastewater; produce clean, reusable water; and create solid cakes made of concrete fines that can be recycled into base material or other beneficial uses.

McLanahan’s filter presses are designed to be safer, simpler and smarter pieces of equipment that help producers do more with their existing resources and create higher ROI by creating a process in which the cementitious water can be recycled and reused. Used primarily after a reclaimer, slurry is pumped into a filter press, which then uses fluid pressure to dewater the cement fines creating a dry cake of cement fines and water that can be reused in the batch plant. Once a dewatered cake has been created, the filter press opens, releasing the cakes, which can then be easily handled. n

Gomaco showcased the benefits of its G+ technology at the show. The control system is easy to learn and use, operating in all the major languages of the world in either imperial or metric units. It has a lightning-fast processing speed and features two-way communications between paver accessories and the G+ controller. Its instant digital feedback combined with the tight closed-loop electronic and hydraulic control creates a G+ paving experience that is smooth, efficient and accurate.

One of the featured machines on display was the Gomaco four-track Commander III with IDBI attachment. Both the paver and the IDBI were equipped with G+ controls to make start up and general paving each day faster and easier. The IDBI attachment is a new generation bar insertion system. The attachment is powered by its own Tier 3 C4.4 diesel Caterpillar engine with 91 hp @ 2,300 rpm. No power or hydraulics is needed from the Commander III’s engine. A CAN cable connects the IDBI’s controls to the G+ controller on the Commander III and allows the two systems to communicate. For example, when the Commander III stops and starts, the tamper bar and screed on the IDBI turn on and off automatically in coordination with the paver.

The self-contained, self-powered IDBI unit is capable of inserting transverse joint bars in pavements up to 4.88 m wide with the Commander III and wider widths on larger Gomaco pavers. The IDBI’s bar tray accommodates dowel bars ranging in size from 25 to 38 mm in diameter and from 457 to 610 mm in length. Adjustable height bar extractors allow quick and easy setup changes for the different bar sizes and insertion requirements. The IDBI’s insertion forks provide the industry standard for bar placement accuracy and have been designed to reduce the amount of scarring while vibration enhances the consolidation of concrete around each bar. After insertion, a tamper bar, unique oscillating straightedge, paving pan and stainless repair any scarring left over from the bar insertion process and apply the smooth Gomaco finish to the surface of the concrete.

GOMACO

The IDBI attachment features its own outriggers to aid in attaching the unit to the Gomaco paver and also for loading and unloading the unit for transporting. The outriggers can be hydraulically lowered and placed on the ground to support the full weight of the IDBI as it is attached or detached from the paver. The outriggers have 1,219 mm of stroke and are also used to raise the unit so a trailer can be backed underneath for transport.

The G+ technology was on display for high production curb and gutter, sidewalk, safety barrier, half-width and full-width paving, variable width paving, and paving with automatic dowel bar insertion. The latest updates for the GSI (Gomaco Smoothness Indicator) tool for reading and achieving optimum rideability results, were also showcased. The C-450 bridge deck finisher rounded out Gomaco’s display. n

The Brokk 100 demolition machine enhances the company’s already extensive line of machines that are used in a variety of industries, including construction, demolition, mining and tunnelling, cement and process, nuclear and other specialty applications.

The Brokk 100 model has been designed with the same abilities to take on the most challenging projects, while also including advancements to the machine’s components. Safe operation on any jobsite is further enhanced, due to a state-of-the-art digital remote-control box. It allows the operator to stay clear of any hazards on the jobsite, and monitor some of the key functions of the machine on an LCD display. The machine is believed to be the first in the industry to deliver the flexibility of a true 360-degree working performance, without compromising stability, productivity or reliability.

Excluding attachments, the Brokk 100 unit weighs 2,183 pounds and can be used with breaker, crushers, drills and shears that weigh up to 331 pounds. The unit is 3.8 ft high 2.6 ft wide. The compact design of the Brokk 100 machine permits operation in the tightest, most confined spaces. The low-profile configuration allows access into smaller openings, while the lower centre of gravity provides greater stability. Improved driving capabilities further enable the machine to offer smooth transportation and operation on the most challenging jobsites.

Though the overall design is smaller, power and reach are not sacrificed. A load-sensing hydraulic system with improved hydraulic capacity helps generate 35-percent greater breaking power when paired with the included SB152 breaker. Maximum horizontal reach is 12.1 ft, while vertical reach is 14.1 ft.

The Brokk 100 machine is powered by a 20 hp electric motor, allowing emissions-free operation for safe use in confined spaces.

The new ICS 890 series hydraulic cutting system builds on the success of earlier ICS hydraulic chain saws, replacing the industry standard 880F4. The 890 series offers improved reliability, usability and serviceability with several significant upgrades and enhancements. Including a redesigned, more durable rear handle and new, cast aluminium valve cover with sight levels, to an easier to replace drive sprocket system, the 890 offers all the benefits of the 880 series and more.

The 890 delivers smooth hydraulic power, balanced handling, a rugged die-cast aluminium body with a modular motor design and four available guide bar lengths, plus available 8-ft hydraulic hose whips so the operator is not carrying the weight or feeling the heat of the hydraulic couplers.

The 890 uses industry leading FORCE4 diamond chains with SealPro technology. SealPro incorporates a chain chassis design that seals out the abrasive contaminants present in the concrete cutting environment. A unique o-ring design seals the rivet-joints of the chain, keeping the abrasive materials out and the lubrication in. Abrasion inside the chain chassis is the primary cause of chain wear and stretch in non-sealed chains.

According to ICS, the company pioneered the diamond chain technology for cutting concrete and its parent company has been a leader in woodcutting saw chains for more than 60 years. ICS said since introducing the world’s first concrete chain saw in 1992, chain

Liebherr’s new 37 R4 XXT truck-mounted concrete pump is fitted with a THP 140 H pump type and features the company’s XXT-narrow outrigger. The four-section, roll-fold distributor boom has a reach of 37 m and is extremely torsional-resistant. This ensures reduced vibrations when manoeuvring the boom during onsite applications.

Well-balanced weight distribution is achieved by channelling the concrete line extremely close to the boom on both left and right-hand sides. Pressure loss is reduced over the entire length of the distributor boom due to the generous 275 mm radius of the pipe bends. Moreover, the pipe bends are predominantly of the same type, minimising the need to stock diverse replacement parts. Numerous design-related features optimise servicing tasks by simplifying the replacement of wear parts.

According to Liebherr, the company is the sole market provider of the exceptionally sturdy and low-torsion patented XXT-narrow outrigger. The front and rear support arms are secured directly to the pedestal of the distributor boom, through which the forces are channelled directly into the supports, completely bypassing the boom. All four support arms are pivot-mounted to allow maximum flexibility and a particularly extensive working range of the distributor boom with narrow support configurations. This feature is invaluable on construction sites with restricted access.

The 37 R4 XXT truck-mounted concrete pump can be equipped with high-performance pump units featuring three different outputs ranging from 125 to 163 cu m/h, depending on the respective application. Liebherr said chassis from various manufacturers can be used for the truck-mounted concrete pump in accordance with customers’ requirements.

A wide range of optional accessories and equipment are available for the 37 R4 XXT. It is therefore possible for the customer to specify additional storage compartments, an extra diesel tank or a further access point on the left-hand side for example. A magnetic rotating

LIEBHERR

beacon provides greater safety and a pneumatic end hose pinch valve prevents any concrete spillage when repositioning the boom.

This rugged and durable concrete pump from Liebherr is developed and produced in Germany, and features exclusively high-quality components from renowned manufacturers. n

The operator’s console on the 4800 offers easy access to machine and carriage function controls. The operator has access to power legs, machine and carriage travel speed controls along with a manual shift lever for carriage reversing. Most accessories can also be controlled from the operator’s console including power crown, internal concrete vibration system, power leg widening and carriage/drag pan fogging.

The 4800 paving carriage performs four functions to help finish concrete deck or slab to job specifications: the augers forward of the

TEREX

carriage trim excess concrete; the Rota-Vibe system consolidates the top 6.9 cm of concrete; the paving rollers finish the concrete; and the drag pan system seals and textures the deck. n

The PCM 3300 curb machine from Phoenix Curb Machines can be transported to and set up easily on the jobsite. The Topcon System 5 Sonar computerised control allows precise control over grade and slope, helping to eliminate waste and improving speed and overall jobsite performance. This is a small, heavy-duty all-wheel drive machine capable of doing curb and small curb/gutter on jobsites that large machines usually cannot access.

The operator can control the machine from two positions: the front of the equipment, while watching the concrete mix from the truck chute load the hopper, or from the rear control panel, while observing the finished curb or curb/gutter being extruded from the custom mould. Proper site preparation, grading and stringline setup is the key to the successful operation of the PCM 3300, said the company. In many instances, if the concrete mix is correct, little or no finishing of the curb or curb/gutter is required by the finishing crew. Moulds are made to the specification of the customer and can be easily changed.

Phoenix Curb Machines also exhibited its ‘Curbie’ curb saw, featuring a multi-function articulating saw head. The Curbie weighs in at approximately 5,800 lbs and is easy to transport to any jobsite – it can be unloaded by one person.

Easy to operate hydraulic controls allow the operator to precisely set the saw head, length of saw arm extension, speed of machine movement and saw blade speed. The multi-function articulating saw head provides the ability to cut concrete or pavement at any angle, improving speed and overall jobsite performance. This is the saw that can cut curbs, gutters, pavement, concrete walls and bridge parapets. It is capable of running blades up to 48 in, making cuts up to 5 ft high with the saw arm fully extended, and running a core drill off the articulating head, and core at any angle.

The operator can easily control the machine’s speed and direction, and the Curbie can be run down a string line with the

optional stringline sensors when making long straight cuts in asphalt pavement or large concrete floors. The compact machine is also very quick and easy to clean when the job is finished. n

n Show Review

Among ChemGrout’s most popular grouting equipment is the compact CG-050M hand pump. It is simple yet productive, and is ideal for various construction and restoration products.

The heavy duty CG-050M is an easy to use, skid mounted hand pump designed for smaller jobs using high viscosity slurries and most pre-packaged grouts. Its rugged, lightweight aluminium construction offers mobility in areas where no air or electric power sources are available.

The hand pump also features a large 5-gallon holding hopper and durable 2-in piston pump that provides injection pressures of more than 200 psi. The manually powered, positive displacement piston pump disassembles in minutes without tools for simple cleaning and maintenance.

ChemGrout manufactures a wide range of standard and custom-built grouting equipment, which can be used in many industries such as mining, tunnelling, highways, foundations, hydroelectric dams, bridges, environmental remediation and geotechnical. n
