Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time!
Well, It’s nice to have a large portion of the Winter over. It is also nice to have so much activity going on in Kiwanis and Hobart. The annual Kiwanis chili supper was a huge hit. As usual, most Hobart Kiwanians helped out. The crowd was great and by 7:00 pm we were out of almost everything. A huge thanks goes out to the chili supper, Shelia DeBonis. Shelia, along with her subcommittees work hard, long and produced the best event ever. Thank you to everyone who helped out. Jan Gornick, chairperson of the social committee, has announced that a Progressive Dinner and Golf Outing are planned for the later part of May. Two years ago, we did a progressive dinner and the results were spectacular. Since almost everyone who lives in River Pointe belongs to our club, she thought that neighborhood would be a great location for this event. During our club forum meeting on January 26th, it was announced that a 2011-‐2012 club nominating committee has been formed. This committee will recommend to the membership officer and board of directors for that period. Our club is strong, and we do some remarkable things for the children and community of Hobart. This is your chance to be part of the leadership team for the Hobart club. Leadership is part of being a member. Please, consider serving your club during 2011-‐2012. Our regular Wednesday meeting will not be held on February 2nd due to the Annual Hobart Prayer breakfast at Augustana Lutheran Church. Kiwanians historically have turned out in large numbers for the breakfast. The breakfast starts at 7:30 am and the cost is $9.00. Tickets can be purchased at the door or at the Hobart Chamber of Commerce. On February 9th, we will hold our regular meeting at the Paragon Restaurant. Have a great Hobart February! Mike Adams

Carol Shingler's husband is doing much better. Jim Burns is glad to be back and for Dexter Larimore's great game. (who took steno as we watched the screen), Lisa Morton (on the Educator Team), and Janet Noel (Faculty development coordinator) and tried to slow down her usual quick-paced speaking to accommodate Lindsay!
Begun by our own Kay Moody in 1984, this nationally accredited school was the first On-line to be certified in 2006. Nicky showed us how an on-line
lesson works. It was wonderful. Their Community Outreach offers a free class at our Hobart High School for the 1st semester! Katie Vettickal (Kay & Jim Moody's daughter) teaches that course. Jay Vettickal, critic writer, received a grant that will teach more students the skills needed to meet the demand for mandatory TV captions (which benefits the deaf). Jan Gornick helps students get loans. Nicky proudly proclaimed that "Our school far exceeds an other in the USA." Hobart is proud of Kay's wonderful school, and Kiwanis is proud that so many of our members are affiliated with this wonderful institution!
