Year 2 Extension Maths Word Problems Week 2 Term 4
1. Mr Wilde bought some new pets for his pet shop.
He added twenty four more goldfish to one tank and
six birds to the cage. He bought seven more rabbits,
three more guinea pigs and fifteen white mice. After
add the pets to those he already had, he had a total
of eighty pets.
How many pets did he have before he bought the new
ones?
2. Ryan was a skilled tenpin bowler. In one week of
practice, Ryan bowled 13 fives, 16 threes, 37 twos,
53 ones. The rest were strikes. A strike is when all
ten pins are knocked over.
If the total number of pins he knocked over in the
week is 320, how many strikes did Ryan get in his
week of practice?
3. Stephanie drew some crazy creatures. Each crazy
creature had three eyes on each of the two head and ten
legs with four toes. She got bored in the middle of drawing
the legs and toes of the last creature. She had already
drawn 156 toes.
How many whole creatures did Stephanie draw?
How many legs did she have left to draw on the last creature?
How many eyes and heads did Stephanie draw?
4. Each box of fruit at the wholesalers holds 10
rows of apples with 8 apples in each row. The fruit
shop owner bought two boxes of apples. He packed
the apples in bags of 6.
How many bags of apples did he have and how many
did he have left over?
