Introduction to the course

This course allows you to make the most of our excellent facilities and gain advanced skills within a photographicspecialism. You will learn how to execute still life, portraiture and social photography, how to effectively use a darkroom and howto manipulate and edit your images. Assessment methods

On this course you will be assessed continually, throughout the year. Coursework takes the form of reports,presentations, case studies and practical projects. Please note that this course does not include an externalend-of-course examination.

Dress code

Students should dress appropriately for practical, hands-on work, as you will be working in a creative environmentand using a range of different materials and equipment.

Equipment

You will have to provide your own A3 Workbooks and Memory Stick(s). You may also wish to have an A3 Portfolio Casefor storing/carrying your work.

Course progression

Students successfully completing this course may progress towards a number of related degree programmes at oneof our associate universities.

Career opportunities are available in advertising, photojournalism, sports, fashion, commercial photography and more- not just in the UK, but all over the world. Many students will also go on to set up their own business.

To log into Blackboard your username is your eight-digit student number (e.g. 12345678) which is also used in yourNESCol email address (e.g. [email protected]). For some forms on StudentNet you must login using your emailaddress as the username, but this will be clearly marked where required. The password will be the default passwordyou were issued with, or the password you have used to replace the default.

BYOD and Student Helpdesk

North East Scotland College provides students with a range of IT services to support particular courses including accessto desktop PCs in some classrooms, all Library+ sites and the IT Centre. However, on many courses you will be requiredto bring your own personal device, such as a laptop or tablet, with you to college for the purposes of learning,teaching and assessment. We call this Bring Your Own Device or BYOD and you will be advised by College staff whatthe arrangements are for the course you have chosen to study.

Students using their own device at College can access technical support from the IT Help Zone which is situated nextto Dino's Café in our Aberdeen City Campus. The Help Zone is run by computing students and members of staff whoare there to help and advise you on a number of IT related issues.
