Designed by Grete Jalk (1920-2006) in 1963, this Laminated Chair is regarded today as the Danish designer’s best-known work. The chair, for which Jalk also created a companion side table, was realized in collaboration with the cabinetmaker Poul Jeppesen. Although it won first prize in a competition organized by the British newspaper Daily Mail during the year of its inception, the chair never went into industrial production.

The expressive sculptural form of the chair, composed of two similarly shaped pieces of molded plywood, marks a late highlight in the engagement of prominent designers with this material, which had commenced in the 1930s.

Due to the complexity of the chair’s design, only around 300 copies were originally produced. Only a few remain in existence today. Lange Production was chosen and authorized to launch the furniture in its original wood species, Teak and Oregon Pine with the addition of black stained ash wood.

The Sleeper is a contemporary sofa that easily converts into a single bed. Conventional sofa-beds involve complex, heavy systems of springs and levers that require several motions or placements. The result is inadequate spring suspension and poor cushioning that compromises comfort in sleeping or sitting. What differentiates the Sleeper from other sofa-beds is that the fully supported foam seat and back changes position in one smooth motion. Visually, the Sleeper has uncompromised clean lines, balanced proportions, tailored details and a low profile that fits in any environment. Visible concrete is part of the expressive language of modern architecture and, with Aplomb, Foscarini introduces a model that uses this material with a spirit and technology that is entirely original. The challenge was to create an incredible leap of scale: from large architectural constructions to a little suspension lamp with a thick-ness of just a few millimetres at its finest point, using a material that is so inflexible. The challenge has been met with impeccable ‘aplomb’, thanks to the use of special concrete that is particularly fluid in moulding and has a material effect that is both rough and,at the same time, elegant.

Aplomb is a small concrete hanging lamp which creates direct, precise lighting. The concrete is offered in three, colored finishes which celebrate its personality, from the traditional grey of cement in its raw state, which adds depth to the volumes, to a stylish white hue, and a warm intense brown. Perfect for occasional tables, peninsulas and counters, either on its own or in a group.

The Egg originated in Arne Jacobsen’s garage - cast in plaster. Today the synthetic shell is padded with cold foam and covered with fabric or different types of leather resting on a star-shaped aluminium base.

The shell of the Egg is of polyurethane foam with fiberglass reinforcement. The shell has an adjustable tilt which can be adjusted to the weight of the individual user. The base consists of a satin-polished, welded steel tube and a 4-star base in injection molded aluminium. The Egg may be upholstered with fabric or leather and is also available with an automatic return mechanism.

Aluminum Group chairs were originally developed in 1958 as a special project by Ray Eames for a private residence being designed by Eero Saarinen and Alexander Girard. At the time, the furniture was called the “leisure group,” or “indoor-outdoor group” since it was meant to address the lack of quality outdoor furniture on the market.

The seat-back suspension was a major technical achievement and represented a departure from the concept of the chair as a solid shell. Wonderfully comfortable, strong, yet lightweight, the chairs became the basis for several other Eames designs, including the Soft Pad chairs.

The Nelson clocks were first born from a festive evening of collaboration.... George Nelson recalls: ‘And there was one night when the ball clock got developed... Noguchi came by, and Bucky Fuller came by... we started making doodles. Then Bucky sort of brushed Noguchi aside. He said, ‘This is a good way to do a clock,’ and he made some utterly absurd thing. Everybody was taking a crack at it, pushing each other aside and making scribbles.... and the next morning there was this roll of drafting paper and somewhere in this roll there was the ball clock.” These clocks are produced from the original design documents from the Nelson archive with the blessings of the George Nelson estate.

Approximately 60 layers of cardboard are held together by hidden screws with a fibreboard edging. Four models from the series - Side Chair, Wiggle Side Chair, Dining Table and Low Table Set - are now being produced by Vitra.

The cutting out in the sides of the back, the pointed legs and the elaborate execution of the joint between forelegs and hind legs are details making the sawhorse chair a distinctive and sculptural piece of furniture.
