Huang Siqi
Thursday, 29/9
• The group meet at the airport at 7pm .• Boarded the plane to Tokyo Haneda international airport at 22:15 .• We had our breakfast on the plane .
Day 1 [ Friday, 30/9 ]
• We arrived at Tokyo Haneda international airport .• After collecting our luggage, we took the airport bus to the domestic
airport .• After settling down at one side of the airport, we break into groups
and walked around the airport.
Day 1 [ Friday, 30/9 ]
• While doing so , I noticed that the airport is very quiet. Unlike in Singapore where people talk loudly on phone or to one another, the Japanese talk softly .
• We also went in some shops and the staff greeted us warmly. When we leave the shop, they said thank you to us even though we did not buy anything .
• We then boarded the plane to Hiroshima .
Day 1 [ Friday, 30/9 ]
• At about 10:50 we reached Hiroshima . • We noticed that Ms Tsuru and 2 students, Tsukasa and Kakeru were
waiting for us .• We collected our luggage and joined them .
Day 1 [ Friday, 30/9 ]
• We arrived at the Training Center and after some rest, we went to the supermarket opposite , AruK .
• I then noticed differences between Japan’s supermarket and Singapore’s .
• After you pay, you will carry the your stuff to the long table at the side to pack your things. I think this is very efficient as it reduced the amount of time spent on each customer and also can allow customers to pack their things the way they wanted .
Day 1 [ Friday, 30/9 ]
• After a short shopping, we went to HIT senior high . • We had a chance to experience their club activities . For example,
Judo, Kendo and Japanese archery . • I chose Kendo . • We all had lots of fun and we exchanged omiyages . • We then ended our first day in Hiroshima .
Day 2 [ Saturday, 1/10 ]
• We woke up early in the morning and travelled to HITP by Densha . • The Densha has a system similar to the bus where you pay when you
are on it . The exit and entrance is very clear cut . • There is a guy standing right at the exit. Later then I realise that he is
the guy who make announcements. When passengers exit the Densha, he will also thank the passenger and tell them to be careful . He will look out of the window at every station to check if there is anymore passengers who did not board .
Day 2 [ Saturday, 1/10 ]
• We took a bus from HITP to Hiroshima Institute of Technology• We reached Hiroshima Institute of Technology for sports event . • Schools in Japan is very different from Singapore . They separate their
outdoor shoes and indoor shoes . Hence, we had to change to indoor shoes.
• After a round of self introduction, we started our badminton game. • Since not all are playing at the same time, others played Frisbee . • After badminton, we had origami lesson . We learned to fold rose.
Day 2 [ Saturday, 1/10 ]
• We went to the Peace Memorial Park . • I learnt that peace does not come easy and we must appreciate the
peace we have now. • I personally think that we have no rights to comment on this topic . • Everyone has a different perspective and what we must do is to allow
these different perspectives to coexist . • We also need to be more sensitive when it comes to this topic.
Day 3 [ Sunday, 2/10 ]
• We spent the whole day in Miyajima . • I think that Miyajima is a place where you can see animals in their
natural way .
Day 4 [ Monday, 3/10 ]
• Day 4 is a very packed day . We visited the Nagisa-koen elementary school in the morning and then visited MISHIMA . Lastly, we visited Nagisa Junior High School and Nagisa High School .
• I am amazed by the elementary school students . The lesson was conducted in English and they had no problem understanding it . They are also very energetic and their performance was amazing.
Day 4 [ Monday, 3/10 ]
• The visit to Junior High and High School was fun and I learnt a lot about Japanese traditional games and I realised that I actually played some of the games before in China when I was young.
Day 5 [ Tuesday, 4/10 ]
• We had woodworking and pizza . • Woodworking really needs a lot of patience and creativity . We spent
a long time sanding the wood and putting the puzzles together . • Half way through the woodworking, we went to make pizza . The
process was very fun as we can decide what to put in and the proportion of it .
Day 6 [ Wednesday, 5/10 ]
• I did research on the Ishida Asaki School of Fashion . Therefore I was looking forward to the visit .
• I did a small comparison on the fashion show . All I can say is the fashion is changing very fast and the skills are improving very fast too .
• The fashion show looks fantastic and the keychain making session later on was very fun .
• During the keychain making, I realised one similarity among Japanese . They praise people very often even though the person might not be doing a good job .
Day 6 [ Wednesday, 5/10 ]
• Due to typhoon, we were not able to visit Miitsubishi Heavy Industries .
• Therefore, the visit was replaced by Kendama lesson . • Kendama might looks easy to play . It was extremely hard . • After countless attempts, I was finally able to do a successful flip . • This lesson not only taught me Kendama techniques but also taught
me one thing , learning how to do is one thing, mastering it is another thing .
Day 6 [ Wednesday, 5/10 ]
• After the Kendama lesson, we had an exchange program with the students of the mechanical engineering .
• Looking at the things the students do and the intensiveness of it, I sort of understood why Japan is one of the leading countries in terms of technology in Asia .
Day 7 [ Thursday, 6/10 ]
• We had Japanese lesson in the morning . I learnt a lot about Japanese kanji .
• After that we experienced Japanese Culture Calligraphy and everyone had lots of fun .
• We then had “quiz” . It has 4 sections, Things about Japan, Tongue twister , True or False and Drawing. We bound with the Japan students and work hard together . We all had a great time.
Day 8 [ Friday, 7/10 ]
• We went to the Alpenrose . • The place is really nice and it gives a feeling of home . • We helped to clean the windows and we fold origami with the elderly
. • After we played games together, we performed and they enjoyed it .
Day 8 [ Friday, 7/10 ]
• After the Alpenrose , we head back to HITP for rice-cake making and Yukata .
• The making of rice-cake was very fun and tiring at the same time as strength and team work are both needed in a simple action of hitting the rice .
Day 8 [ Friday, 7/10 ]
• The wearing of Yukata involves a lot of steps . • When I am wearing the Yukata, I realise that it makes my back
straight. • It was a good experience as Yukata are relatively expensive and I do
not wear it in Singapore.
Day 9 [ Saturday, 8/10 ]
• Day 9 is homestay and my host family came to pick us up at 8:40• We first went to the Hiroshima castle and later on, he brought us to
Etajima . • Later at night , they brought us to eat sushi .
Day 10 [ Sunday, 9/10 ]
• I woke up at 8:30 am and my host family was cooking dinner and hence I went to help . The host family taught me how to make the tamagoyaki and the miso soup and we had a great breakfast.
• After the breakfast, we went to Jump shop, Book off and Giga. • For lunch , we ate our favorite food, okonomiyaki. • We then gathered back at Training center for farewell party .• We leave Japan .
• Separating the rubbish is one thing that I learnt from this Japan trip that I can apply in Singapore . Separating the rubbish into burnable, unburnable, can , pet bottles helps recycling . It makes the recycling work much more easier and faster .
• In my observation, Japanese really treat separating rubbish very seriously . Unlike Singapore when people normally just say but not do, Japanese really take actions .
• I believe that it will be good if we can adapt this habit from the Japanese .
