someone who believes that "religion should not simply be tolerated but should be countered, criticized, and exposed by rational argument wherever its influence arises" (New Atheism) 18. Richard Carrier is an aggressive proponent of the “Jesus Myth,” i.e. the blasphemous and antiChrist assertion that Jesus Christ never existed 19. Jim Walker also denies Jesus Christ's existence and like Carrier, he admits that Hitler criticized the Catholic Church 20. Evidence from Hitler's Table Talk; According to David Irving, Hitler's Table Talk is “unadulterated Hitler”; According to Richard Carrier mentioned previously, the German edition of Hitler's Table Talk “carries the strongest claim to authenticity” 21. Here are the statements of authenticity in Henry Picker's German translation. 24. Automatic Excommunication Merely claiming to be a Catholic or Christian does not make a person a Catholic or a Christian. A person's beliefs and actions must be consistent with Catholic dogma for them to be a Catholic. Hitler was automatically excommunicated because he professed a false faith and denied Catholic teaching in his actions, such as by having the notoriously antiCatholic Alfred Rosenberg as head of the Nazi Ideology and Education department. Also, Rosenberg's book, The Myth of the 20th Century was put on the Catholic Church’s Index of Forbidden Books in 1937. Pope Leo XIII, Satis Cognitum (# 9), June 29, 1896: “”The practice of the Church has always been the same, and that with the consenting judgment [i.e. consensus] of the holy fathers who certainly were accustomed to hold as having no part of Catholic communion and as banished from the Church whoever had departed in even the least way from the doctrine proposed by the authentic Magisterium.” Pope Leo X, Fifth Lateran Council, Session 8: "And since truth cannot contradict truth, we define that every statement contrary to the enlightened truth of the faith is totally false and we strictly forbid teaching otherwise to be permitted. We decree that all those who cling to erroneous statements of this kind, thus sowing heresies which are wholly condemned, should be avoided in every way and punished as detestable and odious heretics and infidels who are undermining the Catholic faith." Pope Vigilius, Second Council of Constantinople, 553: “The heretic, even though he has not been condemned formally by any individual, in reality brings anathema on himself, having cut himself off from the way of truth by his heresy. What reply can such people make to the Apostle when he writes: As for someone who is factious, after admonishing him once or twice, have nothing more to do with him, knowing that such a person is perverted and sinful; he is selfcondemned (Titus 3:10).” Pope Pius VI, Auctorem fidei, Aug. 28, 1794: “47. Likewise, the proposition which teaches that it is necessary, according to the natural and divine laws, for either excommunication or for suspension, that a personal examination should precede, and that, therefore, sentences called ‘ipso facto’ have no other force than that of a serious threat without any actual effect” – false, rash, pernicious, injurious to the power of the Church, erroneous Canon 2314, 1917 Code of Canon Law: “All apostates from the Christian faith and each and every heretic or schismatic: 1) Incur ipso facto [by that very fact] excommunication...” Canon 2200.2, 1917 Code of Canon Law: “Positing an external violation of the law, malice (dolus) is presumed in the external forum until the contrary is proven.”

Pope Leo XIII, Satis Cognitum (# 9), June 29, 1896: “No one who merely disbelieves in all (these heresies) can for that reason regard himself as a Catholic or call himself one. For there may be or arise some other heresies, which are not set out in this work of ours, and, if any one holds to a single one of these he is not a Catholic.” Pope Leo XIII, Satis Cognitum (# 9), June 29, 1896: “So, with every reason for doubting removed, can it be lawful for anyone to reject any of those truths without thereby sending himself headlong into open heresy? without thereby separating himself from the Church and in one sweeping act repudiating the entirety of Christian doctrine?” Evidence from Mein Kampf Hitler said Christianity introduced “spiritual terror” into the world: Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 2, Chapter 5: “Each one of us today may regret the fact that the advent of Christianity was the first occasion on which spiritual terror was introduced into the much freer ancient world, but the fact cannot be denied that ever since then the world is pervaded and dominated by this kind of coercion and that violence is broken only by violence and terror by terror.” Hitler had enormous praise for Frederick the “Great”: Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 3: “It was right and just that Destiny should be praised for having chosen a scion of that House of which Frederick the Great had in past times given the nation an elevated and resplendent symbol for all time to come.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 10: “It is clear that the worth and significance of the monarchical principle cannot rest in the person of the monarch alone, unless Heaven decrees that the crown should be set on the head of a brilliant hero like Frederick the Great, or a sagacious person like William I.” Frederick the “Great” was a freemason: Albert Mackey, Encyclopedia of Freemasonry, Frederick the Great: “In English, we have two accounts of this initiation, one by Campbell, in his work on Frederick the Great and his Times, and the other by Carlyle in his History of Frederick the Second... Frederick the Great was certainly a Freemason.” Hitler praised Martin Luther as Frederick the “Great's” equal:

Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 8: “Especially in dark days of distress, such men have the power of healing broken hearts and elevating the despairing spirit of a people. To this group belong not only the genuinely great statesmen but all the great reformers as well. Beside Frederick the Great we have such men as Martin Luther and Richard Wagner.” Otto von Bismarck is notorious for waging the war against the Catholic Church in Germany towards the end of the 1800s called the 'Kulturkampf': Catholic Encyclopedia, 1910, Kulturkampf: “The name given to the political struggle for the rights and selfgovernment of the Catholic Church, carried out chiefly in Prussia and afterwards in Baden, Hesse, and Bavaria. The contest was waged with great vigour from 1871 to 1877; from 1878 to 1891 it gradually calmed down. On one side stood the government, the Liberals, and the majority of the Conservatives; on the other, the bishops, the priests, and the bulk of the Catholic people. Prussia was the chief centre of the conflict. The Prussian government and Prince Bismarck were the leaders in this memorable struggle... They [Liberals] maintained that a permanent political unity of Germany depended absolutely on unity of religion, language, and education. On this ground they proclaimed the Catholic minority a foreign element in the new empire; it must be either assimilated or exterminated.” Hitler said Bismarck's work “must now be carried on”: Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 5: “My own attitude towards the conflict was equally simple and clear. I believed that it was not a case of Austria fighting to get satisfaction from Serbia but rather a case of Germany fighting for her own existence the German nation for its own tobeornottobe, for its freedom and for its future. The work of Bismarck must now be carried on.” Pope Pius IX condemned the German Kulturkampf in Quod Nunquam: Pope Pius IX, Quod Nunquam, Feb. 5, 1875, #7: “The divine judge will condemn those unworthy men who, supported by the protection of civil authority alone, heedlessly occupy parish churches and have dared to seize the holy ministry in them. Moreover, We declare them to be lost. In the future, whoever intrudes into the government of the Church by a similar crime will incur excommunication according to the holy canons, and he will incur it ipso facto. We advise the pious faithful not to approach the holy rites of such people nor to receive the sacraments from them. They should prudently abstain from any business dealings and association with them so that the bad leaven does not corrupt the undefiled lump of dough.”

Hitler heaped praise on Bismarck's Reich: Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 2, Chapter 10: “Bismarck’s Reich was free and unhampered by any obligations towards the outside world.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 2, Chapter 10: “On the one side Bismarck showed the greatest regard for customs and traditions; on the other side his policy secured for the new Reich from its foundation onwards a great measure of love and willing cooperation.” Hitler said Bismarck's work failed because it lacked a “new Weltanschauung,” meaning a new spiritual world view, i.e. a new religion: Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 5: “This was also the reason why Bismarck’s antisocialist legislation failed and was bound to fail in the long run, despite everything. It lacked the basis of a new Weltanschhauung for whose development and extension the struggle might have been taken up. To say that the serving up of drivel about a socalled ‘StateAuthority’ or ‘LawandOrder’ was an adequate foundation for the spiritual driving force in a lifeordeath struggle is only what one would expect to hear from the wiseacres in high official positions. It was because there were no adequate spiritual motives back of this offensive that Bismarck was compelled to hand over the administration of his socialist legislative measures to the judgment and approval of those circles which were themselves the product of the Marxist teaching.” Hitler said that when he finished reading the NSDAP 25 point program the hall was filled with people who had “a new faith”: Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 12: “When I finally came to explain the twentyfive points and laid them, point after point, before the masses gathered there and asked them to pass their own judgment on each point, one point after another was accepted with increasing enthusiasm. When the last point was reached I had before me a hall full of people united by a new conviction, a new faith and a new will.” The Nazi Party's 25 point program demanded “freedom of religion for all religious denominations”, i.e. the heresy of religious liberty, and advocated “positive Christianity”, a heretical “nondenominational” form of Protestantism. This is why Hitler claimed at times to be “Christian” or to have founded the Nazi Party on “Christian morals”:

Page 7: Hitler Was a Heretic

7

The 25point Program of the NSDAP, #24: “We demand freedom of religion for all religious denominations within the state so long as they do not endanger its existence or oppose the moral senses of the Germanic race. The Party as such advocates the standpoint of a positive Christianity without binding itself confessionally to any one denomination..." Hitler called this “new faith” a “political faith”: Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 2, Chapter 1: “At a time in which the one side, armed with all the fighting power that springs from a systematic conception of life even though it be criminal in a thousand ways makes an attack against the established order the other side will be able to resist when it draws its strength from a new faith, which in our case is a political faith. This faith must supersede the weak and cowardly command to defend. In its stead we must raise the battlecry of a courageous and ruthless attack.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 2, Chapter 1: “And so during the first stages of founding our movement we had to take special care that our militant group which fought for the establishment of a new and exalted political faith should not degenerate into a society for the promotion of parliamentarian interests.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 2, Chapter 1: “From general ideas a political programme must be constructed and a general Weltanschhauung must receive the stamp of a definite political faith. Since this faith must be directed towards ends that have to be attained in the world of practical reality, not only must it serve the general ideal as such but it must also take into consideration the means that have to be employed for the triumph of the ideal.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 2, Chapter 1: “To take abstract and general principles, derived from a Weltanschhauung which is based on a solid foundation of truth, and transform them into a militant community whose members have the same political faith a community which is precisely defined, rigidly organized, of one mind and one will such a transformation is the most important task of all; for the possibility of successfully carrying out the idea is dependent on the successful fulfilment of that task.”

Hitler was totally indifferent to the Catholic Church. He only cared about the Aryan race: Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 2, Chapter 10: “The two Christian denominations look on with indifference at the profanation and destruction of a noble and unique creature who was given to the world as a gift of God’s grace. For the future of the world, however, it does not matter which of the two triumphs over the other, the Catholic or the Protestant. But it does matter whether Aryan humanity survives or perishes. And yet the two Christian denominations are not contending against the destroyer of Aryan humanity but are trying to destroy one another... Therefore everyone should endeavour, each in his own denomination of course, and should consider it as his first and most solemn duty to hinder any and everyone whose conduct tends, either by word or deed, to go outside his own religious body and pick a quarrel with those of another denomination. For, in view of the religious schism that exists in Germany, to attack the essential characteristics of one denomination must necessarily lead to a war of extermination between the two Christian denominations... even in our day religious feelings still have deeper roots than all feeling for political and national expediency. That cannot be changed by setting one denomination against another in bitter conflict. It can be changed only if, through a spirit of mutual tolerance, the nation can be assured of a future the greatness of which will gradually operate as a conciliating factor in the sphere of religion also. I have no hesitation in saying that in those men who seek today to embroil the patriotic movement in religious quarrels I see worse enemies of my country than the international communists are.” To summarize, Hitler means: 1) That it only matters whether the Aryan humanity survives. He couldn't care less about whether Protestantism “triumphs” over the Catholic Church or not. 2) That everyone should avoid religious quarrels, meaning no one should evangelize since that might cause a quarrel. 3) That to criticize (“attack”) Protestantism would lead to a “war of extermination,” meaning no one should criticize Protestantism. 4) That a “spirit of... tolerance” towards Protestantism would be great, and a “conciliating factor in the sphere of religion.” 5) That those who “embroil the patriotic movement in religious quarrels,” meaning those who put religion above race, are “worse enemies... than the international communists.” What a heretic! Hitler was so racist (racism is a mortal sin) that he believed Original Sin was interracial breeding: Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 2, Chapter 2: “Why should it not be possible to induce people to make this sacrifice if, instead of such a precept, they were simply told that they ought to put an end to this

Page 9: Hitler Was a Heretic

9

truly original sin of racial corruption which is steadily being passed on from one generation to another.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 2, Chapter 13: “France’s activities in Europe today, spurred on by the French lust for vengeance and systematically directed by the Jew, are a criminal attack against the life of the white race and will one day arouse against the French people a spirit of vengeance among a generation which will have recognized the original sin of mankind in this racial pollution.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 10: “The sin against blood and race is the hereditary sin in this world and it brings disaster on every nation that commits it.” Hitler advocated the sterilization of people deemed “unfit” for procreation: Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 2, Chapter 2: “If for a period of only 600 years those individuals would be sterilized who are physically degenerate or mentally diseased, humanity would not only be delivered from an immense misfortune but also restored to a state of general health such as we at present can hardly imagine.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 2, Chapter 2: “In this present State of ours, whose function it is to be the guardian of peace and good order, our national bourgeoisie look upon it as a crime to make procreation impossible for syphilitics and those who suffer from tuberculosis or other hereditary diseases, also cripples and imbeciles. But the practical prevention of procreation among millions of our very best people is not considered as an evil, nor does it offend against the noble morality of this social class but rather encourages their shortsightedness and mental lethargy.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 2, Chapter 2: “In this matter the State must assert itself as the trustee of a millennial future, in face of which the egotistic desires of the individual count for nothing and will have to give way before the ruling of the State. In order to fulfil this duty in a practical manner the State will have to avail itself of modern medical discoveries. It must proclaim as unfit for procreation all those who are inflicted with some visible hereditary disease or are the carriers of it; and practical measures must be adopted to have such people rendered sterile.” Hitler was an evolutionist. Evolution contradicts the dogma of Original Sin (since it posits that “death is natural” rather than caused by Original Sin) and thus it also contradicts the dogmas of Redemption:

Page 10: Hitler Was a Heretic

10

Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 2, Chapter 4: “The first step which visibly brought mankind away from the animal world was that which led to the first invention. The invention itself owes its origin to the ruses and stratagems which man employed to assist him in the struggle with other creatures for his existence and often to provide him with the only means he could adopt to achieve success in the struggle. Those first very crude inventions cannot be attributed to the individual; for the subsequent observer, that is to say the modern observer, recognizes them only as collective phenomena. Certain tricks and skilful tactics which can be observed in use among the animals strike the eye of the observer as established facts which may be seen everywhere; and man is no longer in a position to discover or explain their primary cause and so he contents himself with calling such phenomena ‘instinctive.’ In our case this term has no meaning. Because everyone who believes in the higher evolution of living organisms must admit that every manifestation of the vital urge and struggle to live must have had a definite beginning in time and that one subject alone must have manifested it for the first time. It was then repeated again and again; and the practice of it spread over a widening area, until finally it passed into the subconscience of every member of the species, where it manifested itself as ‘instinct.’ This is more easily understood and more easy to believe in the case of man. His first skilled tactics in the struggle with the rest of the animals undoubtedly originated in his management of creatures which possessed special capabilities.” Hitler was not a creationist: he believed the earth had existed for at least “hundreds of thousands of years”. Hitler believed that the various human races are different “species,” and that to mingle such “species” called 'miscegenation' – would result in an inferior or defective offspring. This is called “scientific racism” and it is satanic: Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 11: “Each animal mates only with one of its own species. The titmouse cohabits only with the titmouse, the finch with the finch, the stork with the stork, the fieldmouse with the fieldmouse, the housemouse with the housemouse, the wolf with the shewolf, etc. Deviations from this law take place only in exceptional circumstances. This happens especially under the compulsion of captivity, or when some other obstacle makes procreative intercourse impossible between individuals of the same species. But then Nature abhors such intercourse with all her might; and her protest is most clearly demonstrated by the fact that the hybrid is either sterile or the fecundity of its descendants is limited. In most cases hybrids and their progeny are denied the ordinary powers of resistance to disease or the natural means of defence against outer attack. If Nature does not wish that weaker individuals should mate with the stronger, she wishes even less that a superior race should intermingle with an inferior one; because in such a case all her efforts, throughout hundreds of thousands of years, to establish an evolutionary higher stage of being, may thus be rendered futile. History furnishes us with innumerable instances that prove this law. It shows, with a startling clarity, that whenever Aryans have mingled their blood

Page 11: Hitler Was a Heretic

11

with that of an inferior race the result has been the downfall of the people who were the standardbearers of a higher culture.” Charles Darwin also believed that human races are species (interestingly, the alternative title for Darwin's 'Origin of the Species' is: 'The Preservation of Favored Races in the Struggle for Life'. Hitler probably called his book 'Mein Kampf', meaning 'My Struggle,' after this theme of the “evolutionary struggle for racial survival”): Charles Darwin, The Descent of Man, Chapter 1: “Do the races or species of men, whichever term may be applied, encroach on and replace one another, so that some finally become extinct? We shall see that all these questions, as indeed is obvious in respect to most of them, must be answered in the affirmative, in the same manner as with the lower animals.” Charles Darwin, The Descent of Man, Chapter 6: “Man has multiplied so rapidly, that he has necessarily been exposed to struggle for existence, and consequently to natural selection. He has given rise to many races, some of which differ so much from each other, that they have often been ranked by naturalists as distinct species.” Charles Darwin, The Descent of Man, Chapter 7: “We have now seen that a naturalist might feel himself fully justified in ranking the races of man as distinct species; for he has found that they are distinguished by many differences in structure and constitution, some being of importance.” Charles Darwin, The Descent of Man, Chapter 7: “Man has been studied more carefully than any other animal, and yet there is the greatest possible diversity amongst capable judges whether he should be classed as a single species or race, or as two (Virey), as three (Jacquinot), as four (Kant), five (Blumenbach), six (Buffon), seven (Hunter), eight (Agassiz), eleven (Pickering), fifteen (Bory de StVincent), sixteen (Desmoulins), twentytwo (Morton), sixty (Crawfurd), or as sixtythree, according to Burke.” Charles Darwin, The Descent of Man, Chapter 7: “In the American genus Cebus, the various forms are ranked by some naturalists as species, by others as mere geographical races. Now if numerous specimens of Cebus were collected from all parts of South America, and those forms which at present appear to be specifically distinct, were found to graduate into each other by close steps, they would usually be ranked as mere varieties or races; and this course has been followed by most naturalists with respect to the races of man.” Charles Darwin, The Descent of Man, Chapter 7: “So again, it is almost a matter of indifference whether the socalled races of man are thus designated, or are ranked as species or subspecies; but the latter term appears the more appropriate.”

Page 12: Hitler Was a Heretic

12

Charles Darwin, The Descent of Man, Chapter 7: “One other question ought not to be passed over without notice, namely, whether, as is sometimes assumed, each subspecies or race of man has sprung from a single pair of progenitors.” Charles Darwin, The Descent of Man, Chapter 11: “Through the means just specified, aided perhaps by others as yet undiscovered, man has been raised to his present state. But since he attained to the rank of manhood, he has diverged into distinct races, or as they may be more fitly called, subspecies. Some of these, such as the Negro and European, are so distinct that, if specimens had been brought to a naturalist without any further information, they would undoubtedly have been considered by him as good and true species.” Hitler believed miscegenation – racial interbreeding – is a “sin”: Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 11: “In short, the results of miscegenation are always the following: (a) The level of the superior race becomes lowered; (b) physical and mental degeneration sets in, thus leading slowly but steadily towards a progressive drying up of the vital sap. The act which brings about such a development is a sin against the will of the Eternal Creator. And as a sin this act will be avenged.” Darwin believed that to mix human races can cause a genetic regression: Charles Darwin, The Descent of Man, Chapter 20: “...this is an unfortunate circumstance, as in accordance with a principle, the truth of which I have elsewhere proved, crossed races of man would be eminently liable to revert to the primordial hairy character of their early apelike progenitors.” Darwin believed people should not marry if one of the two to marry is “inferior”, and that it would be “Utopian” if people refrained from marriage for this reason: Charles Darwin, The Descent of Man, Chapter 21: “Both sexes ought to refrain from marriage if they are in any marked degree inferior in body or mind; but such hopes are Utopian and will never be even partially realised until the laws of inheritance are thoroughly known. Everyone does good service, who aids towards this end.” Hitler believed people should be given certificates to “guarantee racial purity” and of physical health to guarantee “fitness for marriage”: Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 2, Chapter 2: “Specially competent committees ought to issue certificates to individuals entitling them to engage in colonization work, and these certificates should guarantee the racial purity of the individuals in question.”

Page 13: Hitler Was a Heretic

13

Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 2, Chapter 2: “After he has completed his military training two certificates shall be handed to the soldier. The one will be his diploma as a citizen of the State, a juridical document which will enable him to take part in public affairs. The second will be an attestation of his physical health, which guarantees his fitness for marriage.” Hitler frequently spoke of Nature as if it is a person (i.e. as if Nature is a “woman”) as would a pantheist: Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 4: “Under certain circumstances, in periods of distress or under bad climatic condition, or if the soil yields too poor a return, Nature herself tends to check the increase of population in some countries and among some races, but by a method which is quite as ruthless as it is wise.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 4: “And thus the seeds are sown for a human progeny which will become more and more miserable from one generation to another, as long as Nature’s will is scorned.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 4: “Nature must then be allowed to use her own methods or man may possibly take the task of regulation into his own hands and establish the necessary equilibrium by the application of better means than we have at our disposal today.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 4: “Nature knows no political frontiers. She begins by establishing life on this globe and then watches the free play of forces. Those who show the greatest courage and industry are the children nearest to her heart and they will be granted the sovereign right of existence.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 10: “Here, as elsewhere, one may defy Nature for a certain period of time; but sooner or later she will take her inexorable revenge. And when man realizes this truth it is often too late.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 10: “When one realizes, apart from this, that every possible effort is being made to hinder the process of procreation and that Nature is being wilfully cheated of her rights, there remains really only one question: Why is such an institution as marriage still in existence, and what are its functions?” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 11: “Walking about in the garden of Nature, most men have the selfconceit to

think that they know everything; yet almost all are blind to one of the outstanding principles that Nature employs in her work.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 11: “But then Nature abhors such intercourse with all her might; and her protest is most clearly demonstrated by the fact that the hybrid is either sterile or the fecundity of its descendants is limited.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 11: “That is why the struggle between the various species does not arise from a feeling of mutual antipathy but rather from hunger and love. In both cases Nature looks on calmly and is even pleased with what happens.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 11: “If Nature does not wish that weaker individuals should mate with the stronger, she wishes even less that a superior race should intermingle with an inferior one; because in such a case all her efforts, throughout hundreds of thousands of years, to establish an evolutionary higher stage of being, may thus be rendered futile.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 11: “Yet far harder is the lot of him who believes that he can overcome Nature and thus in reality insults her.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 11: “For it is a necessity of human evolution that the individual should be imbued with the spirit of sacrifice in favour of the common weal, and that he should not be influenced by the morbid notions of those knaves who pretend to know better than Nature and who have the impudence to criticize her decrees.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 12: “The masses are but a part of Nature herself.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 2, Chapter 1: “Hence the folk concept of the world is in profound accord with Nature’s will...” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 2, Chapter 2: “Therein we witness the corrective provision which Nature adopts. She restricts the possibilities of procreation, thus impeding the fertility of crossbreeds and bringing them to extinction.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 2, Chapter 8: “For Nature herself decides according to the rules of her inexorable logic.”

Hitler believed in false gods and goddesses, as would a pagan: Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 3: “The fact that great numbers of people went about blindfolded amid the manifest signs of dissolution only proves that the gods had decreed the destruction of Austria.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 2, Chapter 2: “You have one God, and that is your money. We do not turn to you, however, for help, but to the great army of those who are too poor to consider their personal existence as the highest good on earth. They do not place their trust in money but in other gods, into whose hands they confide their lives.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 2, Chapter 2: “It may be that money has become the one power that governs life today. Yet a time will come when men will again bow to higher gods.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 1: “Indeed it was the hand of the goddess of eternal justice and inexorable retribution that caused the most deadly enemy of Germanism in Austria, the Archduke Franz Ferdinand, to fall by the very bullets which he himself had helped to cast.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 2, Chapter 7: “How often did the eyes of my young men light up with enthusiasm when I explained to them the vital functions connected with their task and assured them time and again that all earthly wisdom is useless unless it be supported by a measure of strength, that the gentle goddess of Peace can only walk in company with the god of War, and that every great act of peace must be protected and assisted by force.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 2, Chapter 15: "The judges of this State may tranquilly condemn us for our conduct at that time, but History, the goddess of a higher truth and a better legal code, will smile as she tears up this verdict and will acquit us all of the crime for which this verdict demands punishment." Hitler believed in magic, as would an occultist: Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 1: “The insignia of a former imperial sovereignty which were still preserved in Vienna appeared to act as magical relics rather than as the visible guarantee of an everlasting bond of union.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 1: “Even today I cannot recall without emotion that venerable personality whose

enthusiastic exposition of history so often made us entirely forget the present and allow ourselves to be transported as if by magic into the past.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 2: “The whole Ring Strasse had a magic effect upon me, as if it were a scene from the ThousandandoneNights.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 2: “The country lad who migrates to the big city feels attracted by what has been described as easy work which it may be in reality and few working hours. He is especially entranced by the magic glimmer spread over the big cities.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 3: “The Press succeeded in the magical art of producing names from nowhere within the course of a few weeks.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 3: “In order to estimate properly the really pernicious influence which the Press can exercise one had to study this infamous Jewish method whereby honourable and decent people were besmirched with mud and filth, in the form of low abuse and slander, from hundreds and hundreds of quarters simultaneously, as if commanded by some magic formula.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 13: “The force which has ever and always set in motion great historical avalanches of religious and political movements is the magic power of the spoken word.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 5: “The moment, however, that the leaders realized the danger which threatened them they pulled the magic cap of deceit over their ears and, without being identified, played the part of mimes in the national reawakening.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 10: “Many of such cases are visitors from the provinces who, held speechless and enthralled by the magic charm of city life, become an easy prey for prostitutes.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 1, Chapter 12: “Only the existence of such a seat or centre, around which a magic charm such as that of Mecca or Rome is woven, can supply a movement with that permanent driving force which has its sources in the internal unity of the movement and the recognition of one head as representing this unity.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. democracy could have believed that the brutal determination of those whose interest it is to spread the Marxist worldpest, of which they are the carriers, could for a moment, now or in the future, be held in check by the magical formulas of Western Parliamentarianism.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 2, Chapter 3: “An applicant who has hitherto been a Zulu or Kaffir is told: "By these presents you are now become a German Citizen." The President of the State can perform this piece of magic.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 2, Chapter 7: “I was now able to feel and understand how easily the man in the street succumbs to the hypnotic magic of such a grandiose piece of theatrical presentation.” Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 2, Chapter 12: “The institutions of the movement are to be brought over into the State; for the State cannot call into existence all of a sudden and as if by magic those institutions which are necessary to its existence, unless it wishes to have institutions that are bound to remain completely lifeless.” Hitler said the Swastika had a racial basis – it was not considered a Catholic symbol by him: Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Hurst and Blackett Ltd. (Murphy Translation), 1939, Book 2, Chapter 7: “We National Socialists regarded our flag as being the embodiment of our party programme. The red expressed the social thought underlying the movement. White the national thought. And the swastika signified the mission allotted to us the struggle for the victory of Aryan mankind and at the same time the triumph of the ideal of creative work which is in itself and always will be antiSemitic.”

Evidence from “New Atheists” According to wikipedia a “new atheist” is someone who believes that "religion should not simply be tolerated but should be countered, criticized, and exposed by rational argument wherever its influence arises" (New Atheism). In addition to the propaganda about the “Holocaust,” such atheists have an agenda to malign the Catholic Church by claiming Hitler was a Catholic/Christian. Also, most atheists (if not all) are evolutionists, and Hitler's obvious belief in evolution is not something they want to be associated with – so they try to deny Hitler was an evolutionist by quoting things where he talks about “God,” or claims to be a “Christian,” or they show pictures of Hitler or Nazis with priests, bishops near or in a Church – all in an attempt to prove that “Hitler was a Christian”. However, none of their arguments prove anything, other than that the atheists are shallow, dishonest and ignorant. It is the Catholic Church that has the sole authority from Christ to define the requirements for membership in the true Church of Christ – the Catholic Church – not some atheist.

Page 18: Hitler Was a Heretic

18

Pope Pius XII, Mystici Corporis Christi (#22). “Actually only those are to be included as members of the Church who have been baptized and profess the true faith.” There are two articles from such atheists which aim to prove Hitler was a “Christian” by criticizing the English translation of a book called Hitler's Table Talk. This book has a number of antiChristian/antiCatholic statements made by Hitler. Before examining Hitler's statements in the original language (German) of Hitler's Table Talk, we will look at the atheist's statements because they actually prove Hitler was a heretic. Richard Carrier is an aggressive proponent of the “Jesus Myth,” i.e. the blasphemous and antiChrist assertion that Jesus Christ never existed. Keep in mind that even though Carrier denies the existence of Christ, he admits that Hitler criticized “priests and the Church and Christian dogmas quite a bit”: Richard C. Carrier, Hitler's Table Talk: Troubling Finds, 2003: “Hitler did criticize priests and the Church and certain Christian dogmas quite a bit, but so do godfearing Christians.” Richard C. Carrier, Hitler's Table Talk: Troubling Finds, 2003: “Hitler's only genuine antiChristian remark here [27 February 1942] is against the cruelty of the Catholic Church specifically, with his sarcastic play on die alleinseligmachende Kirche, the idea of a "one true church" that alone grants salvation.” Richard C. Carrier, Hitler's Table Talk: Troubling Finds, 2003: “But in Picker's German this sentence is somewhat different: "[13 December 1941] Das Christentum (lehrt 'die Verwandlung,' das) ist das Tollste, was je ein Menschengehirn in seinem Wahn hervorgebracht hat, eine Verh6hnung von allem Gottlichen,""Christianity (teaches 'Transubstantiation,' that) is the maddest thing ever concocted by a human brain in its delusion, a mockery of all that is godly." Picker does not say why he placed parentheses around these words, but they are clearly meant to be incorporated into the sentence. Without them, the sentence does say "Christianity is the maddest thing that a human brain has ever concocted in its delusion." However, all versions follow this with a sentence attacking the absurdity of transubstantiation, as if that was indeed what Hitler meant.” Richard C. Carrier, Hitler's Table Talk: Troubling Finds, 2003: “All this is not to say that Hitler doesn't criticize Christianity even in Picker's and Jochmann's version of the Table Talk. For instance, again on 13 December 1941, Hitler argues against the idea of a physical resurrection and in favor of a spiritual one, and there and elsewhere he takes a very cynical view of Catholicism, voicing many of the same criticisms one might hear from a candid (and bigoted) Protestant.” Richard C. Carrier, Hitler's Table Talk: Troubling Finds, 2003: “Apart from this interpolation, and despite significant differences between the PickerJochmann and

Page 19: Hitler Was a Heretic

19

GenoudTrevorRoper editions, in the actual German of this entry Hitler does attack the Church, Christian dogma, and institutional religion, while promoting personal religion and religious tolerance. And while he talks of Christianity introducing lies, he still denounces atheism (e.g. "zum Atheismus wollen wir nicht erziehen"). In another entry Hitler talks of Christianity becoming obsolete while, again, denouncing atheism (14 October, 1941, midday??). Hitler's position appears to resemble Kant's with regard to the primacy of science over theology in deciding the facts of the universe, while remaining personally committed to a more abstract theism.” Jim Walker also denies Jesus Christ's existence and like Carrier, he also admits that Hitler criticized the Catholic Church. Notice Walker's own false definition of what a “Christian” is. Many atheists like to invent their own definition of what is required to be a “Christian”: Jim Walker, Hitler's table talk and other extraneous sources, 2000 (add. 2009): “The reasoning by the apologists in regards to the TableTalk seems to be that because Hitler spoke against organized religion, then he must therefore be antiChristian. But even if we take this simplistic approach and assume the TableTalk as the actual thoughts and beliefs of Hitler, it fails for the simple reason that dismissing a religion of one's own faith does not exclude or excuse one from a personal belief as a Christian. A Christian is simply a person who believes in God and Jesus in some form or manner. Christianity, the body of believing people, simply does not require organized religion at all.” Jim Walker, Hitler's table talk and other extraneous sources, 2000 (add. 2009): “If we used the same logic of the apologists against Hitler, then we should remove Luther, Calvin, and many other prominent socalledChristians from membership of Christianity.” Jim Walker, Hitler's table talk and other extraneous sources, 2000 (add. 2009): “They fail to distinguish Hitler's Christianity as a beliefsystem versus "corrupt'' organized Christianity. It was the latter that Hitler questioned, not his own personal beliefs.” Jim Walker, Hitler's table talk and other extraneous sources, 2000 (add. 2009): “His arguments toward the Christian religion regarded his strong reformation views of the Church as he saw it, regardless of how some Christians today dislike it. Indeed, he saw himself as a reformer similar to that of the alleged Jesus and Martin Luther, the Protestant reformer who also had strong words to say against the Catholic orthodoxy.” Jim Walker, Hitler's table talk and other extraneous sources, 2000 (add. 2009): “Even if you believed the tabletalk included the antiChristian quotes, nowhere in the talk does

Page 20: Hitler Was a Heretic

20

Hitler speak against Jesus or his own brand of Christianity. On the contrary, the tabletalk has Hitler speaking admirably about Jesus. Hitler did, of course criticize organized religion in a political sense (as do many Christians today), but never in a religious sense.” [i.e. “political Catholicism” more on that in a later section]

Evidence from Hitler's Table Talk According to David Irving, Hitler's Table Talk is “unadulterated Hitler”: David Irving, How good is Hitler's Table Talk?, 2003: “Hitler's Table Talk is the product of his lunch and suppertime conversations in his private circle from 1941 to 1944. The transcripts are genuine. The Table Talks' content is more important in my view than Hitler's Mein Kampf, and possibly even more than his Zweites Buch (1928). It is unadulterated Hitler. He expatiates on virtually every subject under the sun, while his generals and private staff sit patiently and listen, or pretend to listen, to the monologues.” According to Richard Carrier mentioned previously, the German edition of Hitler's Table Talk “carries the strongest claim to authenticity” (keep in mind that Carrier is so skeptical that he even denies the existence of Jesus Christ, God Incarnate): Richard C. Carrier, Hitler's Table Talk: Troubling Finds, 2003: “Assuming any published text is a genuine copy of these notes, Picker's edition (especially where it agrees with Jochmann) carries the strongest claim to authenticity. It contains the actual German, and was the first to be published, a year before Genoud, and though Genoud procured a lengthy but essentially trivial preface from Robert d'Harcourt of the Academie Franqaise, Picker had the involvement and auspices of a major university and Hitler historian: "Arranged on behalf of the German Institute for the History of National Socialism, initiated and published by Gerhard Ritter, professor of history at the University of Freiburg." Moreover, Picker was one of the actual stenographers (from 21 March 1942 to 2 August 1942), and thus transcribed many of the notes himself in the very presence of Hitler, making him an eyewitness with access to the notebooks of his predecessor Heim, which he says he acquired directly, bypassing the editing of Bormann. Picker's second and third editions also contain several testimonials to the text's accuracy and authenticity by fellow bunker officers, including Gerhard Engel, and also a testimonial by historian Walter Mediger who checked the first edition against Picker's own transcripts and "made corrections" accordingly, testifying to the accuracy of the new edition in relation to those notes. Picker asserted in his first edition that [translating Picker's German] "a sufficient number of the staff at the FHQ lives to be able to testify to the authenticity of the recordings of the table discussions, since Hitler spoke rarely at table on military affairs," and to demonstrate his personal knowledge he gives a detailed description of the bunker and meeting room, and who was present on Hitler's staff at the time. Adding further credibility, Picker's text reads like a quick

stenograph, with some things missing between entries, which are often short, with no time for any explanation or context (which Bormann on occasion added). Even the sentences themselves are often concise and sometimes missing simple words like pronouns.” Here are the statements of authenticity in Henry Picker's German translation. I have used Google Translate because I have no one to translate the statements at this time. Even with Google Translate one can get an idea of what is being communicated. At least he claimed to us the basis of relevant literature and because of Christ the head of the 1st century, the Mussolini its instruments in 1938 and which corresponded to the appearance of a Roman and not that of a Jew.

The Jew who fraudulently introduced Christianity into the ancient world—in order to ruin it—reopened the same breach in modern times, this time taking as his pretext the social question. It's the same sleightofhand as before. Just as Saul was

The papacy, despite numerous crises—the gravest of which, as it happens, were settled by German emperors—and although it is based on a literally crazy doctrine. But as an organisation on the material level, the Church is a magnificent edifice. 31st March 1942, at dinner

The papacy, despite many crises, the most serious were just overcome by German Emperor, and in spite of a very crazy mental basis only because of the magnificent organization of the Church.

When one recollects further that the Catholic Church has elevated to the status of Saints a whole number of madmen, one realises why movements such as that of the Flagellants came inevitably into existence in the Middle Ages in Germany. 5th June 1942, midday

As it should be added in the Catholic Church that priests “have praised madmen as saints” movements are like the flagellants (Geissler) been inevitable in the German Middle Ages.

I can imagine people being enthusiastic about the paradise of Mahomet, but as for the insipid paradise of the Christians! In your lifetime, you used to hear the music of Richard Wagner. After your death, it will be nothing but hallelujahs, the waving of palms, children of an age for the feedingbottle, and hoary old men. The man of the isles pays homage to the forces of nature. But Christianity is an invention of sick brains : one could imagine nothing more senseless, nor any more indecent way of turning the idea of the Godhead into a mockery. But there have been human beings, in the baboon category, for at least three hundred thousand years. There is less distance between the manape and the ordinary modern man than there is between the ordinary modern man and a man like Schopenhauer. 24th October 1941, evening

People of at least the rank of baboons there are definitely since at least 300 000 years ago. The ape differs from low standing people less than such a person from a head such as Schopenhauer.

From now on, one may consider that there is no gap between the organic and inorganic worlds. Recent experiments make it possible for one to wonder what distinguishes live bodies from inanimate matter. In the face of this discovery, the Church will begin by rising in revolt, then it will continue to teach its "truths". One day finally, under the batteringram of science, dogma will collapse. 24th October 1941, evening

Science is just again reached a huge section of the question whether at all between the organic and the inorganic in the Nature is a substantial difference: It has body in front of him and does not know, should we expect them to organic or inorganic. Since the Church is shouting at first, then it keeps silent and teaches your next one. In addition to the gigantic power of the natural history research but will fade the dogma someday.

Evidence from the Catholic Church In the century leading up to Vatican II (196265) many liberal heresies were being spread against the dogma: Outside the Catholic Church there is no salvation. It is also important to keep in mind that the Blessed Virgin Mary predicted at Fatima in 1917 that there would be a second world war: “The war is going to end. But if they do not stop offending God, another and worse war will begin in the reign of Pius XI. When you shall see a night illuminated by an unknown light, know that it is a great sign that God gives you that He is going to punish the world for its crimes by means of war, of hunger, and of persecution of the Church and of the Holy Father. To prevent this I come to ask the consecration of Russia to my Immaculate Heart and the Communion of reparation on the first Saturdays...” (http://www.mostholyfamilymonastery.com/catholicchurch/consecrationrussiafatimalucy/#.VXsTOI70k0) Obviously Hitler was instrumental in bringing about and continuing world war II, the war our Lady prophesied would occur. For all the facts pertaining to the Great Apostasy predicted in the Bible and by our Lady, as well as the critical information needed to save your soul, please go to www.vaticancatholic.com. The book, The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich is a compilation of documents (from an anonymous source) of many speeches, articles, laws and events that occurred during the reign of Hitler up until 1941 (when it was published). Unfortunately, it is not free from the taint of liberalism mentioned above. For example, it states at the end of the preface: “We purposely limit ourselves here to a treatment of the persecution of the Catholic Church. The battle in defence of the Evangelical Church, conducted in some parts in a manner truly heroic – particularly by the body known as the “Confessional Church” deserves a separate treatment.” A Catholic would never describe a Protestant as “heroic.” It implies that Protestants can be saved, since the Saints are described as having 'heroic virtue'. Another example of such liberalism (not from this book) is from a series of sermons given during Advent 1933 by “Cardinal” Faulhaber: “Cardinal” Faulhaber, Judaism, Christianity and Germany, Advent Sermons of 1933, The Religious Values of the Old Testament and their Fulfilment in Christianity: “Therefore the antiMoses movement does not affect us Catholics so vitally as our separated brethren, who regard the Bible as the sole foundation of their faith. To these separated brethren we stretch forth our hand to make common cause with them in defence of the sacred books of the Old Testament, so that we may save them for the

German nation and preserve this precious treasury of doctrine for the Christian schools.” “Cardinal” Faulhaber, Judaism, Christianity and Germany, Advent Sermons of 1933, The Cornerstone between Judaism and Christianity: “Our separated brethren do not kneel with us at the Communionrail. But to meditate with faith on the Holy Gospel is to enter into spiritual communion with our Lord and Saviour.” “Cardinal” Faulhaber was considered somewhat outspoken against the Nazi regime, however this does not excuse his going too far the other way by holding Jews (or any other nonCatholics) to be “brothers” or in “spiritual communion with our Lord and Saviour” and thus committing apostasy. Incidentally, “Cardinal” Faulhaber ordained Joseph Ratzinger, Antipope Benedict XVI. Here are a number of quotes from the book, The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich which add weight to the fact that Hitler was a heretic. If Hitler was a Catholic, as some false traditionalists assert, then there would not have been a persecution against the Catholic Church in Germany during his reign. The Persecution of the Catholic Church The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 1, Chap. 1, Evidence from the Vatican, p.8: “In his Christmas allocution of 1937 the Pope, with a severity he had not hitherto employed, pilloried the persecution of the Church in Germany. “For some time past,” he said, “facts have been misrepresented, made subjects of lies and distortion. This applies particularly to a fact that is as great in its geographical extension as in its moral gravity and seriousness.” It was to the very grievous and painful fact of the religious persecution in Germany that the Holy Father wished to refer; for, as he said himself, “we wish to call things by their right names.” “It shall not be said of Us, in the words of an ancient historian, that We have forgotten the real names of things. No, thank God, We have not forgotten how to describe things as they truly are, and We intend to do so. In Germany there exists in very truth a religious persecution. For a considerable time efforts have been made to make men believe that there was no persecution. But it is known that there is such a persecution and that it is a heavy one. Indeed, seldom has there been a persecution so heavy, so terrifying, so grievous and lamentable in its farreaching effects. It is a persecution that spares neither force nor oppression nor threats, nor even the subterfuge of intrigue and the fabrication of false facts.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 1, Chap. 1, Evidence from the Vatican, p.9: “It was maintained that the Catholic religion was no longer Catholic but political. This served as a pretext for persecution, as though there were really no persecution, but only measures taken, so to speak, in

Page 31: Hitler Was a Heretic

defence of proper civil order. It was in just this way that they accused Christ before Pilate – as a political disturber, a usurper, a plotter against the temporal power, an enemy of the Emperor. To Pilate's question Christ made answer: “My kingdom is not of this world.” The Holy Father [Pope Pius XI] proclaimed to the whole world: “We do not engage in politics. Quite the contrary, indeed; for if We were engaged in politics, Our people – and We have one people throughout the entire world – Our faithful sons would come to Our help... None of these sons of Ours, scattered as they are over the whole face of the earth, believes that We are engaged in politics, but they can all see and testify again and again that it is religion with which We are concerned, and nothing else. Certainly it must be maintained that the ordinary citizen must conduct the affairs of his own life in accordance with the laws of God. Is that religion or is it politics? Certainly not politics! But We wish that in everyday life, both individual and social, consideration should be given to the rights of God, which are also the rights of souls. That is what We have done, and that alone: those who think and say otherwise, offend against the truth.””

The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 1, Chap. 2, Evidence from the German Hierarchy, p. 3033: “Undoubtedly the most important document of the year regarding the persecution of the Church in Germany is the Combined Pastoral of the bishops at Fulda, issued on August 19th, 1938... The introduction to the document by itself gives one a good deal of insight into the conditions obtaining... “...They are trying to restrict us on every side, to bleed our Catholic life to death. Yea, more; they aim at the complete overthrow of the Catholic Church on German soil, and even at the entire elimination of Christianity of whatever sort, and the introduction in its place of a form of belief which is utterly alien to the true faith in God and belief in a future life... But that is precisely what they are striving for in so many quarters at present, and always without check by anybody – the complete annihilation of the Catholic Faith in Germany... their ideological aim is none other than the destruction of German Catholicism... not a few among the German people are trying to undermine the Christian Faith as the enemy of the people, and with purposeful, relentless destruction to annihilate it entirely... But for her [Christian truth], short indeed will be the silence of the grave, and she will rise again and gaze in triumph at the tomb men dug for her and sealed over her, and at the silent graves of her enemies, closed for ever... They seek to banish the Christian God, and to set up a “German God” in His place.” The Attempted “Extermination” of the Catholic Church The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 1, Chap. 2, Evidence from the German Hierarchy, p.16: “Bishop Wilhelm of Osnabruck... about the war on the Church in Germany in a sermon on New Year's Eve: “Our Faith is not built on sagas and myths, but on the infallible revelation of God... What then can it mean when a war of extermination is undertaken against this Christian faith in

God, when it is sought to tear it out of the hearts of the young in order to substitute for it a new, a Germanic belief in God?” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 1, Chap. 2, Evidence from the German Hierarchy, p.2728: “As if with one voice, the Lenten Pastorals of 1938 protest against the religious persecution... we read: “...Indeed, a highlyplaced and influential Party speaker of National Socialism openly declared a few months back that Christianity no longer had any significance for the present and future of the German nation! Truly, when such opinions are openly expressed in Germany and even urged by individuals in positions of authority, it must be admitted that the Holy Father did but express the sad truth when He spoke in the spring of “a war of extermination against the Church,” and at Christmas of “a religious persecution in Germany.” The Evil Spirit of National Socialism The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 1, Chap. 2, Evidence from the German Hierarchy, p.24, Archbishop Grober of Freiburg, New Year Pastoral, 1937: “He must be completely out of touch with reality, or blind or deaf or deluded in some way, who would venture to maintain that peace reigns in the Church everywhere in Germany, and that Christianity and the Catholic Church everywhere enjoy equal respect, freedom and liberty of action with their opponents... Moreover, the protagonists of this new Kulturkampf carry on their activities with increasing openness and diminishing prudence, and are disclosing their ultimate aims with ever greater clearness and boldness: they even reveal to their hearers and readers on certain occasions the actual date by which they hope to achieve a decisive and lasting victory over Christianity and the Church... Is the Catholic Church... to be repeatedly (if sometimes covertly) branded as Public Enemy No. 2, and treated as the sworn associate of Bolshevism?... Is the spirit of Julian the Apostate, whose foolhardiness brought such swift retribution, to gain an unholy victory here in Germany? Is that spirit to prevail, which seeks by means of restriction, oppression and defamation to destroy in a few years all that hundreds of generations of Christian Germans have reverenced and held sacred, and all that by the inspiration of their Christian faith they have achieved for their country and their people in culture, art and science?”” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 1, Chap. 2, Evidence from the German Hierarchy, p.24: “At the beginning of the summer of 1937, Bishop Galen of Munster preached a striking sermon of nearly two hours' duration on the manifold violations of the Concordat. He referred to the illegal dissolution of Church organisations and confiscation of their property; expulsion of the Sisters of Mercy from the schools, hospitals and other charitable institutions; suppression of denominational schools; restriction of religious instruction; veto on visitation of schools by Church authorities; expulsion of Catholic teachers from denominational schools, etc. “All that, and much else that is in contradiction to the Concordat with the Reich, is

known to all of us... And the Pope knows it too! Should he therefore remain silent?... And now, in a letter to the German bishops of March 23rd, 1937, the Reich Minister for Ecclesiastical Affairs declares: “The Papal Encyclical is in gross contradiction to the spirit of the Concordat. The Concordat with the Reich does not give any warrant for procedure of this kind. Consequently, in accordance with Article 16 of the Concordat of July 20th, 1933, the bishops and other ordinaries are forbidden to print or duplicate or distribute the Encyclical in any form.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 2, Chap. 3, The Destruction of the Catholic Youth Associations, p.83: “To the fact that the ruling party in the Third Reich intended to bring up German youth in a consciously antiChristian spirit Baldur von Schirach, the Reich Youth Leader... November 5th, 1943: “Rosenberg's way is the way of German youth.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 2, Chap. 4, The Destruction of the Catholic Secondary Schools, p.132: “In May, 1936, State Councillor Boepple of the Bavarian Ministry of Education in a speech before 5,000 men and women teachers, declared that, of 1,600 teaching posts held by nuns, 600 would be handed over to lay teachers during the coming year. It was absolutely necessary to transfer all conventual teaching into lay hands, since “the State must be able to exercise a centralised control over all its educational affairs... The National Socialist State wants a school, a youth, and a form of education in harmony with the National Socialist spirit. For this reason it can no longer entrust the care of State public elementary schools to Religious Orders. Even if in certain isolated cases convent teachers were willing to teach their pupils in the spirit of National Socialism, yet experience has shown that convent schools in general are not able to do justice, in the instruction they give, to the basic requirements of the new State or to the new educational aims it has adopted.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 2, Chap. 4, The Destruction of the Catholic Secondary Schools, p.137: “We reproduce here a letter sent by the Regional Educational Council of Salzburg to the authorities of the Borromaeum private Gymnasium at St. Rupert near Bischofshofen, which shows how thorough the Nazis were in their work of destroying the Catholic schools: [Urgent.]

January 23rd, 1937: “There is no task more important for the Party and the State than the education of youth in the spirit of the National Socialist ideology...” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 2, Chap. 5, The Destruction of the Catholic Elementary Schools, p.157: “From the Nazi Schwarze Korps we learn that in the district of Dachau a certain Baroness von Gumppenberg gave the following reasons for voting at the election in favour of the denominational schools: “I cast my vote against the community school: (i) because I am a Roman Catholic, and therefore do not wish my children to be brought up in the spirit of neopaganism, since from this spirit and outlook it is but a short step to complete cultural Bolshevism; (ii) on account of my national and thoroughly German attitude, for I cannot and will not contribute by such a step to the fulfillment of a demand which the Communists have been making for years.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 2, Chap. 6, Religious Instruction, p.178179: “As early as 1937 the German faith movement had organised a kind of pagan religious teaching and had set up a socalled faith instruction in the schools... As an indication of the general lines of this teaching, a plan of the subjectmatter was put together with an introduction signed by Dr. Erich Keller, and to this the Ministry of Education, Department for the Elementary Schools, has given official support in that it has directed that this outline may be put into the hands of such teachers only as can be guaranteed reliable in their ideological outlook, and, even then, they may have it only where it is necessary and by way of a loan. It is forbidden to make a copy of the scheme or to let it fall into other hands. The instruction is to be consciously arranged in an antiChristian sense... The sixth year brings something more:... Kaiser and Pope; Luther as a German champion against Rome; Germans sent to the stake as heretics and witches by the Church... As an outline of the subjects which the seventhyear scholars have to handle, the following are suggested: Relations with other Powers: Attitude to Christianity,... the Origin of Christianity and the Church,... Political Catholicism,... The Inquisition,... The eighthyear classes have the following subjects to work upon: The Movement Hostile

to the German Spirit: Jesuits, the Centre Party,... Catholic Action and its Camouflage in the Third Reich,... Champions of the German Spirit (Rosenberg, Ludendorff)...” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 2, Chap. 8, Sundry Apostolic Works, p.223: “In order to keep check on people making retreats, and above all in order to bring pressure to bear on Civil Servants and employees, there appeared in July, 1937, a decree of Himmler, the Reich Commissioner of the German Police, which enacted that those who went to Retreat Houses, convents or houses of religious orders to take part in retreats must be reported to the local police authorities within twentyfour hours of their arrival. The Church, quite justifiably, regarded this oppressive measure as a device to deter men from making retreats, and the president of the Fulda Conference of Bishops, Cardinal Bertram, appealed to the Chief of the German police to repeal the decree, but in vain. Such is the spirit of the new regime, and we know cases of men who had to endure the most brutal bullying from their National Socialist fellowworkmen for having taken part in a day of recollection in their parish.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 3, Chap. 2, Occupational Organisations and their Publications, p.363: “The Silesian Educator, the periodical of the National Socialist Teachers' Union of Silesia, published on September 5th, 1937, a special number, Religious Education in the Schools. The articles in this number deal in a very significant way with the place which religious instruction occupies in the German schools and with the duties of teachers in regard to the ideological education of children... “A teacher cannot simply say: “There are no new regulations, textbooks or curricula as yet, so the old regulations still apply for us.” Such a thing is impossible. We know that the majority of teachers nowadays, inspired by the feeling of their personal responsibility to the people, instruct and educate the children entrusted to them in the National Socialist spirit without heeding the antiquated regulations and prescriptions. This feeling of personal responsibility towards the children of our people must also spur on the National Socialist teacher to acquire for himself the necessary clarity of ideas in the religious field... We cannot rest satisfied with handing over to the Churches the responsibility for the way in which religious education is given in the schools... because some of these groups advocate and teach ideas which must be considered today to be disruptive and dangerous to the unity of the State. It is not the Churches, nor the clergy of any denomination whatsoever, who are responsible for the education of our youth in the schools, but we German teachers, and we alone, bear this responsibility to the State and to the people, to our consciences and also to God.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 3, Chap. 6, Attacks on Catholic Faith and Practices, p.437: “During September and October, 1936, the SAMann issued a series of articles on faith, “What is meant by Faith?”... “Hence we must speak of a National Socialist faith... National Socialist ideology proclaims that body, soul and spirit are one unity – that is to say, there is

but one life, a life concerned purely with the Here and Now, not with something “Beyond”...” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 3, Chap. 8, The Ersatz [Replacement] Religion, p.479: “In the Third Reich the Christian religion is being relentlessly destroyed; Christian ideas are being ousted by the thoroughly pagan conceptions which National Socialists proclaim about God, Man, the universe, and the eternity and divinity of Blood and Race. This is not destruction merely for destruction's sake, but to leave the field clear for something else, something positive that will furnish ideals in conformity with the spirit of the “new Germany.”... a new religious mentality is being advocated, a liturgical language of its own is being introduced, and the Christian sacraments and symbols are being replaced by pagan ceremonies, symbols, and services.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 3, Chap. 8, The Ersatz [Replacement] Religion, p.505: “In December, 1936, the local National Socialist Leader of SohlingenNord submitted to the Town Council of Sohlingen a motion to reform the Civil Marriage Ceremony... “...it is... possible to surround the prescribed legal act with a certain solemnity. As it frequently happens that parties omit th ecclesiastical marriage, we should do all in our power to transform the civil marriage into a solemn National Socialist ceremony, since marriage is of such tremendous importance in the National Socialist State.” What this “certain solemnity” is like can be seen from the Durchburch [April 15th, 1937], which published the following account by an eyewitness of the “Consecration of Marriage”... according to the NS Neopagan Rite... “The “Consecration of Marriage” took place in the imposing hall of the Castle, and was performed exclusively in the spirit and according to the rite of National Socialism. On either side of the hall were seated the “clans” of the bridegroom and the bride, and between them the wedding ceremony was celebrated. It was inaugurated by fanfares and drums of the Jungvolk; then, to the accompaniment of marches played by the Band of the Castle, the standardbearers escorted by guards marched through the hall into the adjoining “Room of Honour.” The marriage was performed by Dr. Breuer, Mayor of Gemund. Adolf Hitler's Book, Mein Kampf, was presented as a gift to the newlymarried couple.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 3, Chap. 8, The Ersatz [Replacement] Religion, p.510: “... Dr. Gross, director of Department of Racial Policy of the German National Socialist Workers' Party, demands that dogmas should be put in their right place and subordinated to the Race, the supreme value. He writes: “... the racial principle, should be kept absolutely inviolate in its entirety. If you do not like that, if it is not in harmony with your forms, laws and dogmas, well, change your forms, laws and dogmas until they fit life as it is... We shall never cease to proclaim that culture and spirit, art, learning and science... are and have to be based and dependent on Race and Blood. Alfred Rosenberg, Head of Nazi Ideology The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 1, Chap. 2, Evidence from the German Hierarchy, p.29: “Cardinal Faulhaber of Munich... dealt with the accusation that the Church was pursuing political aims. Any policeman, he said, could decide what was or was not “political Catholicism,” while the Pope and the bishops were excluded from any discussion of the matter. We had to be careful not to fall into the mistake of believing that, after 1,000 years of Christian tradition, any future was possible for Germany without Christianity. The Cardinal was convinced that the nation would not accept Rosenberg's “Myth” in place of the Gospel or take a stone instead of bread.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 2, Chap. 4, The Destruction of the Catholic Secondary Schools, p.124: “November 29th [1936]... Pastoral of Bishop of Munster... “Alfred Rosenberg, whose book, condemned by the Church though it is, is still forced upon those who attend Leadership Courses and Training Camps as indispensable for the right understanding of National Socialist ideals and outlook, expressly demands the substitution of other symbols for “the crosses representing the Crucifixion of Christ in the churches and village streets.” Yes, Rosenberg makes his intentions quite clear: “A German Church will gradually replace representations of the Crucifixion in its churches by representations of the Spirit of Fire, of the Heroic in the highest sense.” [Mythus p.616] So it is to come about “gradually”! We understand perfectly well. And is it now that it is to begin? “The Cross must go,” first of all in the schools, so that the children “may bid farewell to the image of Christ.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 2, Chap. 6, Religious Instruction, p.173174: “Those in authority have often declared their intention – to permeate youth through and through with the Nazi ideology. This ideology is to be not merely a subject of instruction, but the very principle of instruction. We should be quote wrong were we to conceive of the new community school as of a school in which religion was merely a neutral factor in the manner of the old undenominational schools... A characterisation... was given in his newspaper, Weltanschauung und Schule, as far back as 1935 by Professor Baumler, Chief Sectional Director in Rosenberg's department, under whose charge is the whole ideological education of Party members. He declared that the community school was no mere undenominational school, because it was no more a mere State school. It was rather an ideological school, a school of the National Socialist creed. In 1939 at one of the jubilee celebrations of the National Socialist Teachers' Union the following was stressed among its guiding principles: “National Socialism has not dissolved the denominational schools in order to secularise them: it has turned them into schools professing the creed of National Socialism.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 2, Chap. 9, The Refusal of Legal Protection for the Catholic Church, p.241: “The enmity,

however, against the Catholic Church which raged undisturbed in the Third Reich did not confine itself to attacks on presbyteries and Youth houses and to the plastering of bills on the walls of churches and private houses, but led to atrocities and desecrations which are, perhaps, unique of their kind. Certainly in no other country would they have been possible – except Bolshevik Russia. From 1935 onwards things which the Catholic holds sacred – chapels, crucifixes, pictures of Our Lady and of the saints – were desecrated and destroyed. These atrocities reveal a great deal: the utter inability to obtain legal redress of more than thirty million Catholics, who were forced to put up with the most outrageous insults from small groups of neopagans and fanatical Nazis; the powerlessness, or worse, the active sympathy with wrongdoers of those whose duty it was to enforce the law, but who did nothing at tall; and the coarseness and brutality and appalling hatred of religion generated by the vulgar antiChristian propaganda disseminated under the direction of Alfred Rosenberg among the German people in thousands of meetings, writings, speeches, training camps, etc.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 2, Chap. 10, Attacks on the Honour of the Church, p.276277: “Reich Leader Alfred Rosenberg: “... the value of a religious denomination is just its capacity for advancing and strengthening the noblest values of a nation, and nothing else. [In Erfurt, June, 1935. Cf. Koln. Volkztg., No. 153, June 3rd, 1935.] The laws of the evolution of the Blood were not discovered by the Councils of the Church, but by the keeneyed and reverent researches of good Europeans whom these very Churches threatened with death... the race theory... preachers, they are not competent to pass judgement on it... Today people cannot be intimidated as effectively as in times past by the idea of eternal punishment in the next life... [At the Discussion on Civilisation of the Nurnberg Party Congress, 1936] I am absolutely clear in my own mind, and I think I can speak for the Fuhrer as well, that both the Catholic Church and the Evangelical Confessional Church, as they exist at present, must vanish from the life of our people. [In an unpublished speech at the German Culture Discussion, Nurnberg Party Congress, 1938.]” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 2, Chap. 9, The Refusal of Legal Protection for the Catholic Church, p. 277278: “...Alfred Rosenberg spoke on March 31st, 1939, in Troppau. The main points of his speech were: Marxism, Jews and the Church... Rosenberg concludes with the words: “We have a vision of a Reich, in which every town and village shall have its community house, where on Sundays the young people of town and country will meet from whose belfries there will ring forth the peals that will call all Germans together. We know that in this Reich that we have in mind the whole German nations will wend its way to Nurnberg, where German youth will vie in sport with German youth as in the days of

yore, where in this Congress Hall all will be gathered together as in a German Cathedral there to debate the questions of German destiny and to gather new strength for the future. And we know that there will be above all the graves of our martyrs to which on fixed days the nation will make its pilgrimage. Of that martyrdom the Eternal Watch in Munich will be the emblem and over all there will fly the flags of victories mightier than ever before, as symbols of a new life and a new order. If we devote ourselves to the service of our country, to affirm the destiny of this era, then we have the right to feel that we are the standardbearers of the greatest epoch in Germany's history.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 3, Chap. 1, The Party Organisations and their Publications, p.330331: “A more serious publication is the Nationalsozialistische Monatshefte, the chief political and cultural monthly organ of the German National Socialist Workers' Party, editor Alfred Rosenberg. An article [No. 69, December, 1935; c. also No. 72, March, 1936], “Ernst Haeckel, a Pioneer of Biological National Thinking,” fully approves of Haeckel's outlook on life which is diametrically opposed to Christianity. “Speaking of Ernst Haeckel's importance for the biological mentality of the present day and our modern way of viewing organic relations within a community, it must be allowed that his attitude towards man, man's nature and man's origin are of fundamental importance. An answer to the 'question of all questions' of man's nature and origin is given in the doctrine of evolution itself.” The article goes on to speak of the “insecurity of the Church's dogmatic system”; of the ideological struggle for biological thinking which “is going on in the entire German youth with one end in view – viz., the intellectual emancipation from all elements of clericalism which are alien to our race and our life and have no share in the aspirations of our nation.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 3, Chap. 1, The Party Organisations and their Publications, p.348349: “The Training in the “Ordensburgen” (National Training Centres) and in the Adolf Hitler Schools ... During the four years in these castles there takes place the last sifting out for the apex of the pyramid, the Hohe Schule. In each of the castles a nucleus of 140 men is chosen, each of whom has already occupied during his training a position of leadership in the lower branches of the Party. Finally, the flower of this cadre is chosen to receive “the final polish” at the Hohe Schule established on the Chiemsee in Upper Bavaria. In this, “the highest training institute of the German National Socialist Workers' Party,” it is Alfred Rosenberg who in the last resort supervises the process of ideological formation... This system is meant to set its stamp on the new National Socialist man that it turns out. He has to be at once a “soldier and a preacher,” and so the German National Socialist Workers' Party conceives it so be its most solemn duty to create a sort of “Order” whose chief task it is to propagate the new religion, for, more and more, that is what National Socialism shows itself to be. The danger that arises from this quarter is much greater than any arising from external persecution. This “intensive Kulturkampf” is the one which is truly dangerous. We have treated above of the spirit that prevails in the Adolf Hitler Schools.”

The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 3, Chap. 2, Occupational Organisations and their Publications, p.364: “At a Fortnightly Training Camp that took place at the beginning of September, 1935, in a town in Central Germany, the head of the District Training Department gave vent to the following views: “National Socialism is an ideology, and that ideology is to be found in Rosenberg's 'Myth of the Twentieth Century.'... People who do not possess our faith, or cannot possess it on account of their racial inferiority, must be eliminated, a process which in part is already being effected by sterilisation... He then went on: “A fight with the denominations has got to come, no, of course, a fight with weapons, for the denominations will die in any case...” He kept on emphasising that these thoughts were not his personal opinions, but represented the official attitude of the Party and the Fuhrer. (These heads of training departments are personally trained in camps by the leading men of the Party). It was quite clear, asserted the speaker, that the Fuhrer stood behind Rosenberg, for he had entrusted to him the ideological training of the Party. It was often permissible not to tell the whole truth to a man who was grievously ill lest his will to live be destroyed. The people were not yet sufficently mature for the new ideology and would hardly survive a religious war.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 3, Chap. 3, Organisations for Youth and their Publications, p.371: “On November 5, 1934, Baldur von Schirach, Supreme Leader of the Hitler Youth, declared in an address in Berlin: “Rosenberg's way is the way of the German Youth.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 3, Chap. 3, Organisations for Youth and their Publications, p.373: “In the meetingplace of a Hitler Youth group in Baden two candles were kept lit before a picture of Rosenberg, the whole arrangement being regarded as a shrine.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 3, Chap. 3, Organisations for Youth and their Publications, p.389: “Catholic Parish Magazine of Cologne [February 17th, 1935]... “Nietzsche, Goethe, Baldur von Schirach and, of course, Rosenberg with his “nine million heretics burnt” are extolled as the heralds of the Revival.”” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 3, Chap. 4, Official Support Lent to Other Attacks on the Church, p.401403: “Support given to the works of Rosenberg: On February 7th, Alfred Rosenberg's “The Myth of the Twentieth Century” was officially included in the Index of Forbidden Books by the Pope... official replies constantly stated that the contents of Rosenberg's books were “the outcome of the author's private investigations, as he himself, in the preface to the 'Myth,' had expressly stated. That his writings were, nevertheless, deliberate propaganda appears clearly in the light of the following facts:

Page 41: Hitler Was a Heretic

41

1. Rosenberg writes not as a private individual, but as one specially commissioned by the Fuhrer to be the ideological pedagogue, the official professor of politics and philosophy for the Party and, by virtue of the Party's key position in Germany, for all responsible German citizens. Even his “private” findings necessarily receive a special authority; and how can any German citizen distinguish clearly between what he puts forward as a private investigator and what he professes as the educational deputy of the Fuhrer? 2. In countless speeches delivered at training courses, etc., in his official capacity Rosenberg puts forward precisely the same views as he holds in the “Myth.” 3. At the Reich Party Congress held in Nurnberg in 1937, Herr Hitler publicly distinguished Rosenberg as his Deputy for the Ideological Instruction of the Party by making him the first recipient of the new State Prize for Art and Science. The official document accompanying this award expressly praises Rosenberg as the person who “has in a scientific and penetrating manner laid the firm foundation for an understanding of the ideological bases of National Socialism.” This can only mean that Rosenberg is regarded in the highest quarters as one whose works, of which the “Myth” is the most outstanding, expound the ideology of National Socialism, and not merely private speculations. 4. Rosenberg's books are encouraged by profuse recognition in Nazi Party speculations. 5. The whole Nazi press seeks to propagate the “Myth” and other works by Rosenberg. Thus, for example, the “Training Letter” for May, 1935, recommends his An die Dunkelmanner, a work previously praised in the April issue of the NS Monatshefte, which stated that on the rejection or acceptance of Rosenberg's propositions hung the very possibility of the National Socialist position... The Schwarze Korps, official organ of the SS, treats the “Myth” as anything but mere private speculations of its author. We cite a short notice concerning the condemnation of Mgr. Leffers of Rostock [May 1st, 1935]: “A special court in Rostock has had occasion to condemn the priest of the Rostock Catholic Church to imprisonment for one and a half years... This priest had expressed decidedly strange views on the subject of Alfred Rosenberg's “Myth of the Twentieth Century”... These remarks... obliged the court to make an example of this remarkable “pastor of souls”... This case should be a warning to all clerical gentlemen, whether tonsured or not...” 6. The “Myth” is to be found on official lists of books recommended to teachers and is often found in school libraries throughout Germany. 7. In innumerable training courses, in Labour Camps, and Students' Camps, Rosenberg's “Myth” is made the basis of instruction and openly proclaimed as an exposition of National Socialist ideology. The thing has gone so far that teachers taking part in Nazi training courses are requested to bring a copy of the “Myth” with them “as a fundamental work on National Socialism.” 8. By an order of the Minstry of Justice junior barristers preparing for the examination which will make them “assessors” are obliged to study the “Myth” and become acquainted with its fundamental ideological doctrines. 9. The Saxon Ministry of Public Education recommended the book for official use in schools. [Cf. The Ministry's Verordnungsblatt, October 15th, 1935.]

10. All popular rejoinders to the “Myth” have been confiscated and forbidden by the authorities.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 3, Chap. 4, Official Support Lent to Other Attacks on the Church, p. 403: “Even papers formerly Catholic – so far as they have survived – are obliged to print the attacks of Rosenberg...” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 3, Chap. 6, Attacks on Catholic Faith and Practices, p.450: “Attacks on Christian missionary work are also frequent. Adolf Hitler wrote in Mein Kampf that both Catholics and Protestants were burdening negroes with Missions which they neither desired nor understood. “Devout missionaries wander through Central Africa, setting up Missions for the negroes, until our own 'higher culture' has acted upon those healthy, longestablished primitive peoples, and produced once more a putrid bastard blood.” Alfred Rosenberg, the Third Reich's special professor of Ideology, wrote on the same lines in his “Myth of the Twentieth Century,” setting missionaries on the same level as opium traffickers and dubious adventurers, and expressing the hope that all missionaries would depart from China.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 3, Chap. 7, The New Morality, p.457: “National Socialist writers and speakers never weary of proclaiming this fact, that National Socialism is an ideology – e.g., the NS Lehrerzeitung (National Socialist Educational Journal) emphasised as early as in 1934 that the National Socialist Movement alone has the right of reforming and reshaping the nation, and that it claims the whole of man. The claims of this ideology, the official exponent of which is Alfred Rosenberg, are thus outlined by Herr Friedrich Schmidt, director of the Central Training Department of the NSDAP: “Instruction in ideology and political science, in short, in every branch of education, is one of the sovereign rights of the Party... Consequently, there can be only one body responsible for the education and training of the German people in the ideology of National Socialism.” In his speech at Reichenberg in March, 1939, Alfred Rosenberg declared, inter alia: “We make no distinction between our State and our ideology, not even for the benefit of those who are willing to recognise our State and refuse to accept only our ideology. We did not fight to gain control of a policestate and a bureaucracy devoid of any ideology. We have been fighting for an idea, and we are not going to yield an inch of our claims.” In 1937, Rosenberg had said at Detmold: “National Socialism has always claimed the whole of man and his entire personality.” [Cf. The Frankfurter Zeitung, No. 32, January 18th, 1937.] High Party officials are consistent in declaring that nothing is to be left to the Churches but the Beyond; life on earth in its entirety is to be subject to the National Socialist ideology” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 3, Chap. 8, The Ersatz [Replacement] Religion, p.482483: The Ersatz [Replacement] Religion, p.510: “In his speech and Munster on July 6th, 1935 (as also on man other

occasions), Rosenberg affirmed the “eternal and creative life of the nation,” “the eternity of the Blood,” etc. He said that it was a “divine commandment” to protect this Blood.” Catholic Organizations Closed by the Nazis

The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 2, Chap. 1, Official Action against the Church's Government and Administration, p.45: “But it is the monastic property which, under the Third Reich, has been the chief object of attack. In the Rhineland, for example, in 1939, the Franciscan Friary in Kelheim was closed. The “crime” of the friars was that they had been “living extravagantly,” because thirty bottles of wine or cordial were found on the premises, as well as butter and fat given them as alms by the Catholic population of the district, and, to the horror of the police some sixty packets of cigars or cigarettes. Besides, their pigs were being fed on potatoes and their chickens on corn and that is forbidden in the Third Reich.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 2, Chap. 1, Official Action against the Church's Government and Administration, p. 48: “Catholic hospitals were also confiscated. A great sensation was caused by the closing of the one in Duisburg, which belonged to the parish of St. Joseph. This hospital was both extensive and uptodate in its equipment... Without any previous announcement or negotiations, the management of the hospital was informed of the police order [to close the hospital] at 5 p.m. on May 11th, and the transfer of the nearly 400 patients was begun at 8 a.m. the following day. A telegram from the Bishop of Munster to the President of the Dusseldorf Local Government, asking that at least an orderly procedure should be adopted, and that in the meantime the transport of cases to other institutions should be suspended, was in vain. The pretexts alleged by the Police President... may be seen at their true value in the light of a communication read in the churches of Duisburg on May 12th , by order of Urban Dean Cuppers: “The Hospital of St. Vincent has been closed, because in one case, which occurred eight months ago, we would not permit a certain operation to be performed on a woman, the sort of operation which we cannot allow to take place under our roof, because it is an offence against the law of God. The woman was consequently removed to another hospital at the suggestion of the doctor concerned, and died there. That is the reason why the hospital was closed. All other reasons which have been alleged are untrue.” Some months later it became known that the Reichminister of the Interior had granted the petition which had been addressed to him. The hospital was opened once more, but closed again a few hours later by the Mayor of Duisburg, in his capacity as Director of the Health Department.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 2, Chap. 1, Official Action against the Church's Government and Administration, p. 4851: “It was in Austria that the policy of closing the Theological Faculties in the Universities was first put into operation. In 1938 the Theological Faculty in the University of Innsbruck was closed down, by order of the Minister of Interior in

Page 44: Hitler Was a Heretic

Vienna. At the same time, the sentence of death was pronounced on the Canisianum at Innsbruck, a large and wellappointed college that served as a hostel for the many foreign students attending lectures in the Theological Faculty... Scarcely two months later the Theological Faculty in Salzburg met with the same fate. The pretext given was that the single faculties which have survived from the old University of Salzburg “have entirely lost their scientific and organic continuity”... There followed in May, 1939, the closing down of the Faculty of Theology in the University of Munich, where the Minister of Education, Dr. Rust, had appointed to the Catholic Theological Faculty two professors who were decisively rejected by Cardinal Faulhaber... The Theological College in Freising was also prepared for its final destruction by the removal of one professor after another. Early in 1939 the Theological Faculty in Graz was also closed.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 2, Chap. 2, Interference with the Teaching of the Church, p.59: “On Palm Sunday, March 14th, 1937, in most of the parish churches of the Third Reich, the Papal Encyclical about the situation of the Catholic Church in Germany (Mit brennender Sorge) was read from the pulpits. Immediately the State proceeded to severe measure of retaliation. Twelve printing offices which had printed this Encyclical were closed without compensation; parish magazines and diocesan gazettes which had copied the wording of its text were banned for three months; all the copies which the police could get hold of were seized and people who had transcribed or even circulated it were arrested. Particularly characteristic incidents occurred in the village of Essen in Oldensburg, where seven Catholic girls, who had been taken into custody for distributing the Encyclical, were released only because of the threatening attitude of the inhabitants.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 2, Chap. 2, Interference with the Teaching of the Church, p.81: “Catholic libraries were also in a bad way. Rosenberg's books were missed from the Borromaus Libraries, so these “politically unreliable libraries” were closed for some days for examination and “purging.”... That thousands of school libraries are gradually being “purged” from all denominational influences needs not to be mentioned.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 2, Chap. 4, The Destruction of the Catholic Secondary Schools, p. 135: “In his sermon on New Year's Day, 1938, Cardinal Faulhaber made known that “quite recently 750 nuns have been dismissed in Bavaria alone.” In the course of the same year (1938) no less than eighteen educational institutions for boys with 1,545 scholars disappeared in Bavaria... At the same time sixtyfour convent schools were closed down, with 12,957 pupils, and the boarding schools attached to many of these institutions suffered a like fate. (In many cases the dissolution of the school was effected in stages; at first the new enrolments for the top and bottom classes were forbidden, and then later the remaining classes were dispersed.) By a decree of the Ministry of the Interior in Vienna dated July 19th, 1938, by a single stroke of the pen, all

the Catholic private schools in Austria were deprived of public recognition and rights. The final closing of these schools, or their conversion into State institutions, followed for the most part immediately.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 2, Chap. 4, The Destruction of the Catholic Secondary Schools, p. 137138: “Sentence of death was pronounced on the last remnant of Catholic private schools in a decree of the Minister of Education, Dr. Rust, in the summer of 1939... By April 1st, 1940, at latest, all Catholic private schools, even Mission Schools, had to be finally closed down. These relentless measures involved thousands of members of Religious Orders and priests, with long years of good and meritorious service behind them, in the direst misfortunes.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 2, Chap. 5, The Destruction of the Catholic Elementary Schools, p. 156: “The Use of Sheer Force. The case of the village of Weldingfelden (Kreis Kunzelsau) illustrates this. Since the parents refused to send their children to the community school, the Catholic school was closed out of hand and the children distributed among various villages in the neighbourhood. Most of them had to go to school on foot every day to Hermathausen, a Protestant village, so that throughout the whole week they were unable to go to church. All complaints from the parents were in vain.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 2, Chap. 5, The Destruction of the Catholic Elementary Schools, p.159: “In the course of recent years the kindergartens have been more and more taken out of the hands of Catholic nuns. Thus, to name but a few cases, in 1937 the Catholic kindergartens in Trier, Ravensburg and Heilbronn were closed; in 1938 nearly all those in Austria; in 1939 the remainder throughout the Reich. As early as 1936 the Bishop of Trier made the following telling remarks in a Pastoral Letter written on the occasion of a charity week: “There is a movement also against the kindergartens under the control of the Church, which are said to impede the growth of the spirit of national unity. With talk of this kind attempts are made to persuade parent not to send their children to the nuns and their kindergartens. It is really remarkable: how can children of the age of two to six upset the national community by their harmless games and innocent joys?” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 2, Chap. 5, The Destruction of the Catholic Elementary Schools, p.161162: “Several bishops exposed from the pulpit the illegalities of these measures and their farreaching consequences for the German people. We shall, however, content ourselves with quoting the stirring Pastoral of Mgr. Bornewasser, Bishop of Trier, which was circulated by courier in December, 1937... this powerful document of the Kulturkampf... “... We all know the real reasons for which the community schools has been introduced in contradiction to the law as it stands, and with complete disregard to the rights of parents. It is because they wish to destroy the educational influence of the Church

completely. This is why the private schools have been harassed, cut down and limited, and finally destroyed; this is why our clergy have been excluded from giving religious instruction; this is why they have dissolved our Catholic Guilds, Associations and even religious Youth Societies; this is why steps are taken against the religious instruction given to the children in the churches; this is why the denominational schools have been closed.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 2, Chap. 8, Sundry Apostolic Works, p.221222: “The Church's work for souls in the parts of Poland occupied by Germany,... has, since the outbreak of war, been brutally obstructed... “Many churches in the parts of Poland occupied by Germany were closed out of hand, but this measure was not carried out everywhere in the same way. In the Archdiocese of Gnesen, the Cathedral, which had been recently restored and refurnished, was closed by the police on the pretext that it was in a dangerous state of disrepair, and now behind its locked doors concerts take place which are recorded on gramophone discs. The Church of the Holy Trinity, the chief parish church, was profaned. Churches which still have priests – and half of the parishes of the Archdiocese of Gnesen have no priests – may be opened only on Sundays, and then only between 9 and 11 a.m., except in Bromberg, where there is a somewhat greater freedom... The following details concern the Archdiocese of Posen: The Cathedral of the city of Posen, which is at the same time the parish church for 14,000 souls, was closed by the police under the pretext that the fabric was in a dangerous state, and the keys are retained by the Gestapo. The most beautiful church of Posen, the collegiate of St. Mary Magdalen, which is also a parish church for 23,000 souls, was similarly closed, and the Jesuit church there met with the same fate. In those churches of the archdiocese that may still be used, religious service may be held only on Sundays between the hours of 9 and 11 a.m.” “Political Catholicism” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 2, Chap. 10, Attacks on the Honour of the Church, p. 276: “Minister of State Adolf Wagner... We began our fight with political Catholicism in March, 1933. The time has now come to continue this fight. Away with political priests! Down with political Catholicism! [In March, 1938, in Munish at a NS mass demonstration.]” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Conclusion, p. 514: “And if Civil Servants who, even in 1939, had the courage to take part in the Corpus Christi Procession are threatened with dismissal, that is, of course, only because National Socialism has [claimed to have] found out that these processions are “demonstrations of political Catholicism.” Although the National Socialists have broken the Concordat of 1933 more than a thousand times, they are too astute to renounce it, because they prefer to go on sailing under a false flag.”

The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 1, Chap. 2, Evidence from the German Hierarchy, p.18, Combined Pastoral of Bishops at Fulda, Aug. 20, 1935: “The new slogan of “political Catholicism,” the reproach that Catholics concern themselves too much with State and political affairs, can only impress those who are lacking in judgement. It can only impress those who do not ask themselves why it is that there is so much talk about the servants of religion who are represented as intruding into the political sphere, while so little is said of politicians who intrude into the sphere of religion and of the Church...” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 2, Chap. 10, Attacks on the Honour of the Church, p.284: “On August 4th, 1935, about 150 SAmen drove in four or five railway motor lorries to Altotting. They came out of the MunchenFreimann Railway repair shops; on the lorries was written in large letters: “Political Catholicism is public enemy No. 1. Our faith is Germany...” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 2, Chap. 8, The Obstruction of the Church's Pastoral Work, p.216: “In 1939 Corpus Christi processions were forbidden in many districts [of Austria] as a result of the agitation which had been conducted against them for years by the Nazi Press, which represented them as “demonstrations of political Catholicism” and the like.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 3, Chap. 6, Attacks on the Catholic Faith and Practices, p.446: “On October 22nd, 1936, the same paper [Schwarze Korps] described Catholic, charitable work as a device of political Catholicism...” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 2, Chap. 8, The Obstruction of the Church's Pastoral Work, p.217: “In 1939, a few weeks before the Feast of Corpus Christi, a compulsory meeting of all male and female Post Office workers took place in FrankfurtamMain in the hall of the Zoological Gardens. The Party speaker declared: The time for Corpus Christi processions is shortly coming round again. It has been clear for years that Corpus Christi processions are not religious functions at all, but demonstrations of political Catholicism, and so, as regards the participation of Civil Servants, let each one of them realise this: “The person who expects to get his bread and butter in the future from the Catholic Church can go to the procession; but anyone who expects to get it from the State is hereby given serious warning.”” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 2, Chap. 1, Official Action against the Church's Government, p.53: “... there is undoubtedly the desire to avoid giving foreign countries the impression that a Kulturkampf is in progress. The Reich Chancellor Adolf Hitler himself, in his speech of January 30th, 1939, dwelt with emphasis on the State financial provision for the Church, and quoted it as a proof that there was no intention on the part of the Third Reich to attack religion. A similar argument was advanced in a pamphlet “Political

Catholicism's Great Falsehood,” [Die grosse Luge des polltischen Katholizismus, Zentralverlag der DSPAD, Franz Eher Nachf., 1938.] written by a certain Dieter Schwarz and zealously distributed by the Party, especially in foreign countries. In the fact that the cessation of the financial contributions to the Churches is apparently to be one of the last measures adopted in the Nazi campaign against religion, we see an example of the clever methods of camouflage which, as repeated experience shows, do not fail to impress foreign opinion.” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 1, Chap. 2, Evidence from the German Hierarchy, p.35, Lenten Pastoral of Bishop Ehrenfried of Wurzburg 1939: “They... are already dreaming of a breakup of the Christian Faith. But they delude themselves... You know and fell yourselves how extensive are the hosts which have ranged themselves against the Roman Church. This is often done under the pretext that the fight is directed, not against religion, not against religious Catholicism, but against political Catholicism. But is it easy to recognise that this distinction is an arbitrary one. It has no sure basis in fact. For those who think in this way, it is quite natural and consistent that the religious rights and activities of the Church should be swept aside – they simply say that all these are of a political nature...” The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 3, Chap. 2, Occupational Organisations and their Publications, p.365, [Bewegung, Central Organ of the National Socialist Undergraduates' Union, 2689, May 28th, 1939]: “There is another fight to the finish which we have to carry on in the midst of our people – namely, the elimination of political agitation and sabotage, and of the exploitation of religious institutions, ideas, feelings and submissiveness in the interest of brutal international and antinational powers. In short, it is the elimination of the political influence of the priesthood. This priestly power has definite strongholds in Germany, and one of them is Wurzburg.” Hitler Worship The Persecution of the Catholic Church in the Third Reich, Anonymous, 1941, Part 3, Chap. 8, The Ersatz [Replacement] Religion, p.482484: “...a number of letters to the editor of the Schwarze Korps [April 20th, 1939], who had asked certain readers to testify what “the Fuhrer meant to them, and what part he played in their spiritual and material existence, their personal thoughts, impressions and aspirations.”... To a father of seven children, Adolf Hitler “is all, he is my faith, my support and my hope... to my children the Fuhrer is the visible personal expression of what in our youth was represented as God.”... An Austrian woman writes: “What the Fuhrer has given me is not only a political ideology, but also a religion. He has given me a faith, which in its true form, I never before possessed, not even when I was young...”... A woman, who, as she says, had been “spiritually famished” before the National Revolution, calls the Fuhrer “the bread of which the soul stands in need. I would like to say openly that the high teaching of the Fuhrer is to me a religion, the German religion! I cannot

think of a more beautiful explanation.” But it is not only hysterical women who write in this vein! To one Adolf R., from Frankfurt, “Adolf Hitler means the same as the word, God, means to a fanatical and orthodox Christian. Arthur L., from Hessenthal, compares the spiritual experience that the Fuhrer means to him with that of his First Communion. But whereas the latter disappointed him because he did not feel any influx of Divine virtue, the Fuhrer now takes the place occupied “in his youth by the good God.” One Hans W., from Munich, reveals that the portrait of the Fuhrer “as my creator hangs in my office as well as in my drawingroom at home.” Every glance at it releases in me “the feelings that devout people allege they experience in earnest prayer. Quite consistently National Socialism has created a new piety, a new “National Socialist Faith”; moreover, the Party authorities do all in their power to replace Christian usages by pagan pseudoreligious customs. Baptism is imitated by a solemn “Conferring of the Name”; marriages and funerals are surrounded with a pagan religious ceremonial; the meaning of Christian feast days is changed in a pagan sense, and National Socialist services are provided with a neopagan cult and a pseudoreligious liturgy. But National Socialism is not therefore in any way endeavouring to found a new Church; it does not aim at establishing a third denomination among the German people. On the contrary:... their ultimate aim is to make National Socialism itself a religion... “positive Christianity”... the terminology of the new National Socialist creed will be moulded on Christian models – its terminology, but not its theology... There will be neither a National Church nor a State Church in the accepted sense of the word, but a Cult State, the Political Church of National Socialism.” Pope Pius XI’s Encyclical, Mit Brennender Sorge Here are some paragraphs from Pope Pius XI’s Mit Brennender Sorge. It further proves that Hitler was a heretic since the Nazi regime was totally condemned in this encyclical, and Hitler, as head of the Third Reich, would not have let such a vicious persecution occur if he had been a Catholic. Pope Pius XI, Mit Brennender Sorge, Mar. 14, 1937, #4: “If, then, the tree of peace, which we planted on German soil with the purest intention, has not brought forth the fruit, which in the interest of your people, We had fondly hoped, no one in the world who has eyes to see and ears to hear will be able to lay the blame on the Church and on her Head. The experiences of these last years have fixed responsibilities and laid bare intrigues, which from the outset only aimed at a war of extermination.” Pope Pius XI, Mit Brennender Sorge, Mar. 14, 1937, #5: “Should the day ever come to place before the world the account of Our efforts, every honest mind will see on which side are to be found the promoters of peace, and on which side its disturbers. Whoever had left in his soul an atom of love for truth, and in his heart a shadow of a sense of justice, must admit that, in the course of these anxious and trying years following upon the conclusion of the concordat, every one of Our words, every one of Our

acts, has been inspired by the binding law of treaties. At the same time, anyone must acknowledge, not without surprise and reprobation, how the other contracting party emasculated the terms of the treaty, distorted their meaning, and eventually considered its more or less official violation as a normal policy. The moderation We showed in spite of all this was not inspired by motives of worldly interest, still less by unwarranted weakness, but merely by Our anxiety not to draw out the wheat with the cockle; not to pronounce open judgment, before the public was ready to see its force; not to impeach other people's honesty, before the evidence of events should have torn the mask off the systematic hostility leveled at the Church. Even now that a campaign against the confessional schools, which are guaranteed by the concordat, and the destruction of free election, where Catholics have a right to their children's Catholic education, afford evidence, in a matter so essential to the life of the Church, of the extreme gravity of the situation and the anxiety of every Christian conscience.” Pope Pius XI, Mit Brennender Sorge, Mar. 14, 1937, #7: “Take care, Venerable Brethren, that above all, faith in God, the first and irreplaceable foundation of all religion, be preserved in Germany pure and unstained. The believer in God is not he who utters the name in his speech, but he for whom this sacred word stands for a true and worthy concept of the Divinity. Whoever identifies, by pantheistic confusion, God and the universe, by either lowering God to the dimensions of the world, or raising the world to the dimensions of God, is not a believer in God. Whoever follows that socalled preChristian Germanic conception of substituting a dark and impersonal destiny for the personal God, denies thereby the Wisdom and Providence of God who "Reacheth from end to end mightily, and ordereth all things sweetly" (Wisdom viii. 1). Neither is he a believer in God.” Pope Pius XI, Mit Brennender Sorge, Mar. 14, 1937, #8: “Whoever exalts race, or the people, or the State, or a particular form of State, or the depositories of power, or any other fundamental value of the human community however necessary and honorable be their function in worldly things whoever raises these notions above their standard value and divinizes them to an idolatrous level, distorts and perverts an order of the world planned and created by God; he is far from the true faith in God and from the concept of life which that faith upholds.” Pope Pius XI, Mit Brennender Sorge, Mar. 14, 1937, #9: “Beware, Venerable Brethren, of that growing abuse, in speech as in writing, of the name of God as though it were a meaningless label, to be affixed to any creation, more or less arbitrary, of human speculation. Use your influence on the Faithful, that they refuse to yield to this aberration. Our God is the Personal God, supernatural, omnipotent, infinitely perfect, one in the Trinity of Persons, tripersonal in the unity of divine essence, the Creator of all existence. Lord, King and ultimate Consummator of the history of the world, who will not, and cannot, tolerate a rival God by His side.”

Pope Pius XI, Mit Brennender Sorge, Mar. 14, 1937, #11: “None but superficial minds could stumble into concepts of a national God, of a national religion; or attempt to lock within the frontiers of a single people, within the narrow limits of a single race, God, the Creator of the universe, King and Legislator of all nations before whose immensity they are "as a drop of a bucket" (Isaiah xI, 15).” Pope Pius XI, Mit Brennender Sorge, Mar. 14, 1937, #12: “The Bishops of the Church of Christ, "ordained in the things that appertain to God (Heb. v, 1) must watch that pernicious errors of this sort, and consequent practices more pernicious still, shall not gain a footing among their flock. It is part of their sacred obligations to do whatever is in their power to enforce respect for, and obedience to, the commandments of God, as these are the necessary foundation of all private life and public morality; to see that the rights of His Divine Majesty, His name and His word be not profaned; to put a stop to the blasphemies, which, in words and pictures, are multiplying like the sands of the desert; to encounter the obstinacy and provocations of those who deny, despise and hate God*, by the neverfailing reparatory prayers of the Faithful, hourly rising like incense to the AllHighest and staying His vengeance.” * The direct translation from the original German reads: “...and that against the defiant Prometheuslike spirit of those who deny, outrage and hate God...” (German: “...daß dem trotzenden Prometheusgeist der Gottesverneiner, Gottesverächter und Gotteshasser gegenüber...”) Pope Pius XI, Mit Brennender Sorge, Mar. 14, 1937, #13: “We thank you, Venerable Brethren, your priests and Faithful, who have persisted in their Christian duty and in the defense of God's rights in the teeth of an aggressive paganism. Our gratitude, warmer still and admiring, goes out to those who, in fulfillment of their duty, have been deemed worthy of sacrifice and suffering for the love of God.” Pope Pius XI, Mit Brennender Sorge, Mar. 14, 1937, #17: “The peak of the revelation as reached in the Gospel of Christ is final and permanent. It knows no retouches by human hand; it admits no substitutes or arbitrary alternatives such as certain leaders pretend to draw from the socalled myth of race and blood. Since Christ, the Lord's Anointed, finished the task of Redemption, and by breaking up the reign of sin deserved for us the grace of being the children God, since that day no other name under heaven has been given to men, whereby we must be saved (Acts iv. 12). No man, were every science, power and worldly strength incarnated in him, can lay any other foundation but that which is laid: which is Christ Jesus (1 Cor. iii 11). Should any man dare, in sacrilegious disregard of the essential differences between God and His creature, between the Godman and the children of man, to place a mortal, were he the greatest of all times, by the side of, or over, or against, Christ, he would deserve to be called prophet of nothingness, to whom the terrifying words of Scripture would be applicable: "He that dwelleth in heaven shall laugh at them" (Psalms ii. 3).” Pope Pius XI, Mit Brennender Sorge, Mar. 14, 1937, #21: “In your country, Venerable Brethren, voices are swelling into a chorus urging people to leave the Church, and

among the leaders there is more than one whose official position is intended to create the impression that this infidelity to Christ the King constitutes a signal and meritorious act of loyalty to the modern State. Secret and open measures of intimidation, the threat of economic and civic disabilities, bear on the loyalty of certain classes of Catholic functionaries, a pressure which violates every human right and dignity. Our wholehearted paternal sympathy goes out to those who must pay so dearly for their loyalty to Christ and the Church; but directly the highest interests are at stake, with the alternative of spiritual loss, there is but one alternative left, that of heroism. If the oppressor offers one the Judas bargain of apostasy he can only, at the cost of every worldly sacrifice, answer with Our Lord: "Begone, Satan! For it is written: The Lord thy God shalt thou adore, and Him only shalt thou serve" (Matt. iv. 10). And turning to the Church, he shall say: "Thou, my mother since my infancy, the solace of my life and advocate at my death, may my tongue cleave to my palate if, yielding to worldly promises or threats, I betray the vows of my baptism." As to those who imagine that they can reconcile exterior infidelity to one and the same Church, let them hear Our Lord's warning: "He that shall deny me before men shall be denied before the angels of God" (Luke xii. 9).” Pope Pius XI, Mit Brennender Sorge, Mar. 14, 1937, #22: “Faith in the Church cannot stand pure and true without the support of faith in the primacy of the Bishop of Rome. The same moment when Peter, in the presence of all the Apostles and disciples, confesses his faith in Christ, Son of the Living God, the answer he received in reward for his faith and his confession was the word that built the Church, the only Church of Christ, on the rock of Peter (Matt. xvi. 18). Thus was sealed the connection between the faith in Christ, the Church and the Primacy. True and lawful authority is invariably a bond of unity, a source of strength, a guarantee against division and ruin, a pledge for the future: and this is verified in the deepest and sublimest sense, when that authority, as in the case of the Church, and the Church alone, is sealed by the promise and the guidance of the Holy Ghost and His irresistible support. Should men, who are not even united by faith in Christ, come and offer you the seduction of a national German Church, be convinced that it is nothing but a denial of the one Church of Christ and the evident betrayal of that universal evangelical mission, for which a world Church alone is qualified and competent. The live history of other national churches with their paralysis, their domestication and subjection to worldly powers, is sufficient evidence of the sterility to which is condemned every branch that is severed from the trunk of the living Church. Whoever counters these erroneous developments with an uncompromising No from the very outset, not only serves the purity of his faith in Christ, but also the welfare and the vitality of his own people.” Pope Pius XI, Mit Brennender Sorge, Mar. 14, 1937, #25: “"Original sin" is the hereditary but impersonal fault of Adam's descendants, who have sinned in him (Rom. v. 12). It is the loss of grace, and therefore of eternal life, together with a propensity to evil, which everybody must, with the assistance of grace, penance, resistance and moral effort, repress and conquer. The passion and death of the Son of God has redeemed the world from the hereditary curse of sin and death. Faith in

these truths, which in your country are today the butt of the cheap derision of Christ's enemies, belongs to the inalienable treasury of Christian revelation.” Pope Pius XI, Mit Brennender Sorge, Mar. 14, 1937, #31: “The believer has an absolute right to profess his Faith and live according to its dictates. Laws which impede this profession and practice of Faith are against natural law. Parents who are earnest and conscious of their educative duties, have a primary right to the education of the children God has given them in the spirit of their Faith, and according to its prescriptions. Laws and measures which in school questions fail to respect this freedom of the parents go against natural law, and are immoral. The Church, whose mission it is to preserve and explain the natural law, as it is divine in its origin, cannot but declare that the recent enrollment into schools organized without a semblance of freedom, is the result of unjust pressure, and is a violation of every common right.” Pope Pius XI, Mit Brennender Sorge, Mar. 14, 1937, #33: “Thousands of voices ring into your ears a Gospel which has not been revealed by the Father of Heaven. Thousands of pens are wielded in the service of a Christianity, which is not of Christ. Press and wireless daily force on you productions hostile to the Faith and to the Church, impudently aggressive against whatever you should hold venerable and sacred. Many of you, clinging to your Faith and to your Church, as a result of your affiliation with religious associations guaranteed by the concordat, have often to face the tragic trial of seeing your loyalty to your country misunderstood, suspected, or even denied, and of being hurt in your professional and social life. We are well aware that there is many a humble soldier of Christ in your ranks, who with torn feelings, but a determined heart, accepts his fate, finding his one consolation in the thought of suffering insults for the name of Jesus (Acts v. 41). Today, as We see you threatened with new dangers and new molestations, We say to you: If any one should preach to you a Gospel other than the one you received on the knees of a pious mother, from the lips of a believing father, or through teaching faithful to God and His Church, "let him be anathema" (Gal. i. 9). If the State organizes a national youth, and makes this organization obligatory to all, then, without prejudice to rights of religious associations, it is the absolute right of youths as well as of parents to see to it that this organization is purged of all manifestations hostile to the Church and Christianity. These manifestations are even today placing Christian parents in a painful alternative, as they cannot give to the State what they owe to God alone.” Pope Pius XI, Mit Brennender Sorge, Mar. 14, 1937, #36: “This charity, intelligent and sympathetic towards those even who offend you, does by no means imply a renunciation of the right of proclaiming, vindicating and defending the truth and its implications. The priest's first loving gift to his neighbors is to serve truth and refute error in any of its forms. Failure on this score would be not only a betrayal of God and your vocation, but also an offense against the real welfare of your people and country. To all those who have kept their promised fidelity to their Bishops on the day of their

Page 54: Hitler Was a Heretic

54

ordination; to all those who in the exercise of their priestly function are called upon to suffer persecution; to all those imprisoned in jail and concentration camps, the Father of the Christian world sends his words of gratitude and commendation.” Pope Pius XI, Mit Brennender Sorge, Mar. 14, 1937, #39: “We address Our special greetings to the Catholic parents. Their rights and duties as educators, conferred on them by God, are at present the stake of a campaign pregnant with consequences. The Church cannot wait to deplore the devastation of its altars, the destruction of its temples, if an education, hostile to Christ, is to profane the temple of the child's soul consecrated by baptism, and extinguish the eternal light of the faith in Christ for the sake of counterfeit light alien to the Cross. Then the violation of temples is nigh, and it will be every one's duty to sever his responsibility from the opposite camp, and free his conscience from guilty cooperation with such corruption. The more the enemies attempt to disguise their designs, the more a distrustful vigilance will be needed, in the light of bitter experience. Religious lessons maintained for the sake of appearances, controlled by unauthorized men, within the frame of an educational system which systematically works against religion, do not justify a vote in favor of nonconfessional schools. We know, dear Catholic parents, that your vote was not free, for a free and secret vote would have meant the triumph of the Catholic schools. Therefore, we shall never cease frankly to represent to the responsible authorities the iniquity of the pressure brought to bear on you and the duty of respecting the freedom of education. Yet do not forget this: none can free you from the responsibility God has placed on you over your children. None of your oppressors, who pretend to relieve you of your duties can answer for you to the eternal Judge, when he will ask: "Where are those I confided to you?" May every one of you be able to answer: "Of them whom thou hast given me, I have not lost any one" (John xviii. 9).” Pope Pius XI, Mit Brennender Sorge, Mar. 14, 1937, #43: “He who searches the hearts and reins (Psalm vii. 10) is Our witness that We have no greater desire than to see in Germany the restoration of a true peace between Church and State. But if, without any fault of Ours, this peace is not to come, then the Church of God will defend her rights and her freedom in the name of the Almighty whose arm has not shortened. Trusting in Him, "We cease not to pray and to beg" (Col. i. 9) for you, children of the Church, that the days of tribulation may end and that you may be found faithful in the day of judgment; for the persecutors and oppressors, that the Father of light and mercy may enlighten them as He enlightened Saul on the road of Damascus. With this prayer in Our heart and on Our lips We grant to you, as a pledge of Divine help, as a support in your difficult resolutions, as a comfort in the struggle, as a consolation in all trials, to You, Bishops and Pastors of the Faithful, priests, Religious, lay apostles of Catholic Action, to all your diocesans, and specially to the sick and the prisoners, in paternal love, Our Apostolic Benediction.”
