Olympic Games is the largest international multi-sport event, held every four years. Tradition, which existed in ancient Greece, was revived at the end of XIX century French philanthropist Pierre de Coubertin. Olympic Games, also known as the Summer Olympic Games, held every four years since 1896, except for the years who came to the world wars. In 1924 established Olympic Winter Games, which were originally held in the same year as the summer. However, since the 1994, the time of the Winter Olympics shifted by two years on the time of the Summer Games.

Coubertin much thought over the idea of international competitions in order to popularize the sport. Noticing the increased public interest in the ancient Olympic Games, caused by loud archaeological discoveries in Olympia, Coubertin drafted revival of the Olympic Games and made 25 November 1892 at the Sorbonne, the world famous Paris University, on "Revival of Olympic."For the Games in 1912 in Stockholm, Pierre de Coubertin created the new sport discipline - modern pentathlon.From 1912 to 1948 years of Art is holding a contest at the Olympic Games included in the Olympic program at the initiative of Pierre de Coubertin. June 23, 1894 Coubertin efforts failed. At the Congress at the Sorbonne took the historic decision: "Because there is no doubt about the benefits provided by the revival of the Olympic Games, both in terms of sports, as well as international, but these games will be revived on the basis that the demands of modern life." Also established the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which Coubertin was appointed General Secretary. It was decided to hold the Games every four years. After the discussion, Congress supported the other Coubertin Demetrius Vikelas to host the first modern Olympic Games in Athens, in a sign of the continuity of the ancient Games. Demetrius Vikelas was elected president of the Olympic Committee.

Games took place in the summer of 1896 and had great success. After their completion Coubertin became IOC president vacated seat.In the future, the Olympic movement had to face serious difficulties, since the next Games -the 1900 in Paris ,the 1904 in St. Louis - have attracted little attention in the background and was held simultaneously with the World Expo. The situation changed since the 1906, when held so-called Intermediate Games in Athens, and the Olympic Games are the greatest sporting event.

C O N C L U S I O N

Since ancient years the Olympic Games have been the major sporting event of all time. In the days of the competition in all the earth is becoming a consensus and reconciliation. War breaks out and all the strong and decent people competed in a fair fight for the best. For many centuries, the Olympic movement has overcome many obstacles, forgetting and exclusion. But no matter what the Olympics are still alive to this day. Of course this is not the event, which was attended by naked boys and the winner who enters the city through the breach in the wall. Today, one of the biggest competitions in the world of events. Games are equipped with the latest technology - the results of the next computer and camera, now determined to within thousandths of a second, athletes and their results depend largely on the technical equipment.
