A wedding has different needs than a meeting. A corporate retreat is not the same as a baby shower. At Lanier Mansion State Historic Site, we have a variety of spaces that are suitable for a wide array of events.Located on the banks of the Ohio River, Lanier Mansion State Historic Site is considered the “Crown Jewel” of Madison’s historic district. One of the best examples of Greek Revival architecture in the country, its beautiful façade and unique event spaces offer a one-of-a-kind setting for your special event.

Guests will enjoy their time at this historic venue. James Franklin Doughty Lanier was one of the most important and influential figures in 19th century Madison. He hired Madison architect

Francis Costigan to design this remarkable home, completed in 1844. The mansion exhibits many original Greek Revival features including its square plan, full façade porch on the south elevation, Corinthian columns on the south portico, Doric pilasters that appear on several locations on the exterior, the massive exterior entablature and dentilated cornice, ornamental anthemia & pediments over the windows and doors, and the Ionic columns that separate the double parlors on the first floor.

DETAILS > To book your event, a deposit of 50% of rental

space is required along with a signed agreement. A check, American Express, MasterCard or Visa are accepted forms of payment. Please Note: Indiana sales tax of 7% applies to all rental fees.

> There is a three hour minimum for each event. This includes one hour for set up, one hour for your event and one hour for tear down and clean up. Extra hours may be added for an additional fee and must conclude by midnight.

> There is a parking lot available for guest parking onsite. Additional parking is available on surrounding streets.

> Restrooms are available for an additional fee of $35/hour after 5 p.m.

> Alcohol and catering may be hired by the client. The client must provide a copy of the catering contract to the Lanier Mansion State Historic Site Manager at the time that the contract is signed. Caterers must show proof of all appropriate state licensing, including a valid liquor license.

> A certificate of insurance is required for all rental events at Lanier Mansion State Historic Site.

> Lanier Mansion State Historic Site at times could be considered under structural or cosmetic construction. Structural and/or cosmetic changes to the facility and its grounds includes but is not limited to gallery closures, improvements to the landscape, installation of art, etc. In the best efforts of the facility, plans will be communicated as early as possible to the client.
