HISTORY PROGRAM

LIMESTONE COLLEGEDepartment Philosophy and goalsHistory is the written record of the human past, and as such it is perhaps the most diverse of all the liberal arts.

The faculty of Limestone's History Department attempts to help its students:

• See the interconnection of events past, present, and future.

• Develop the power of critical thinking necessary to evaluate properly historical material and data.

• Learn to write clearly and artfully, using correct historical methodology.

• Attain an adequate factual and concep- tual base upon which to build in the areas of their particular historical interest.

These goals are met by provision of a variety of American, European, and non-western courses which enable students to retain an informed inter-est in historical matters well after graduation.

Program offerings & CurriculumLimestone College offers a Bachelor of Arts in his-tory. The department also offers a Pre-Law Con-centration, involving a number of courses useful for students interested in attending law school, and a history minor consisting of 18 semester hours in the discipline with 12 of the hours earned in up-per level courses. Limestone's history curriculum is aimed at satisfying the interests of all undergradu-ate students. Eligible students will also have the opportunity to be initiated into Phi Alpha Theta, the National Honor Society in History.

Career opportunitiesLimestone history majors will have the opportunity to teach history, and they will find that majoring in history is a popular program of study for entry into law schools and theological seminaries. His-tory is also an excellent academic background for careers in:

• Journalism• Telecommunications• Museums• Government and Foreign Service• Business Management

Limestone's history program has given graduates the skills necessary to be admitted to law school and graduate school, including institutions such as UNC-Wilmington, Converse College, Ohio Univer-

sity, and George Washington University. Limestone history graduates are also prepared to enter the job market, and have found full-time employment in Cherokee County (SC) public schools, Spartan-burg County (SC) public schools, and Kings Moun-tain National Historic Battlefield.

Computer LaboratoriesThree computer laboratories are available for student use on Limestone's campus. The comput-ers are equipped with commonly used software for word processing and spreadsheets as well as resources for improving the grammar and style of research papers.

To aid in research and data retrieval, online access is also available.
