    staggering total of$638,615,900 (420,248,526/ 497,974,951) and setting 37 new records during its victorious sale week.

    We are thrilled to announce an unprecedented overall total of $638.6 million for this weeks Post-War and Contemporary Art sale

    series. The remarkable bidding and record prices throughout the four sales reflect a new era in the art market, wherein seasonedcollectors and new bidders compete at the highest level within a global market noted Brett Gorvy, Chairman and International

    Head of Post-War and Contemporary Art.

    Beginning the week was The 11th

    Hour Auction on May 13th

    , which proved to be the biggest wildlife charity auction ever staged as it

    raised $38,827,000 (25,237,550 / 30,285,060) and set several new auction records. The triumphant Evening sale on May 15th

    raised an unmatched $495,021,500 (326,714,190/ 386,116,770)the highest total in auction history, setting an astonishing 16

    new auction records for the foremost artists of the last six decades, with 3 works sold above $40 million, 9 above $10 million and 23

    above $5 million.

    The Day Sales on May 16th

    demonstrated notable successors, setting new records for established and emerging artists alike as

    bidders competed for an incredible arrayfrom the New York School to cutting-edge contemporaryselected from important

    private collections. In fact, the role of provenance remained as important as ever throughout the Evening and Day sales, as property

    from the Estate of Andy Williams and the Collection of Celeste and Armand Bartos drew $53,114,750 and $33,761,125 respectively.

    Jennifer Yum, specialist and head of the Morning sale noted, With a total of $63.6 million, the Post -War and Contemporary Art

    Morning session sold 14 works above $1 million. Important works of prestigious provenance were represented, including

    Kenneth Nolands chromatic Untitled, (lot 213) from the estate of Andy Williams that sold for $1,971,750, five times its pre-sale

    estimate, and Cathedralby Bob Thompson (lot 214) realized a world auction for the artist at $327,750. A Robert Mangold (lot

    116) from the Celeste and Armand Bartos Collection that was estimated at $150,000-200,000, achieved a strong result of

    $531,750. The sale offered the chance to discover interesting early works by Roy Lichtenstein from the collection of his longtime

    friends, the Solotorovsky family. All of the works from the familys collection (lots 136 139) doubled their presale estimates. Also

    featured was an incredibly strong grouping of California painters, such as Bay Area native Richard Diebenkorns quiet Still Life (lot

    206) that sold for $783,750, and West Coast Pop artist Wayne Thiebauds paintings. All of Thiebauds twelve works sold above

    their presale estimates, while one standout landscape fetched the top price of the sale. The colorful Yayoi KusamasStatue of

    Sara Friedlander, Head of the Afternoon Sale:The May 16th afternoon sale featured works from the most important artistsworking today: Wade Guyton, Mark Bradford, Nate Lowman, Mark Tansey, Adam McEwen and Albert Oehlen, all sold above

    their estimate. Six world auction records were achieved, for Ellen Gallagher, (lot 441) at $987,750, El Anatsui, (lot 443) at

    $1,179,750, Michal Borremans, (lot 512) at $603,750, Theaster Gates, (lot 524) at $99,750, Jaume Plensa, (lot 591) at $447,750

    and Ken Price (lot 502) at $315,750.

    Christopher Wools Untitled, (lot 453) was sold for $1,203,750, doubling the previous world auction record for a work on paper

    by the artist. Leading the sale was a selection of works from the Collection of Donald Young, most of which were acquired

    directly from the artist. The sale was also led by an outstanding section of works donated by artists, dealers and private

    collectors to benefit Human Rights Watch, a human rights advocacy organization. This section totaled $919,750 (lots 578-591)
