Historical Fiction as History?
There is a plethora of historical fiction and historical films being produced each year. But why? Are they a reliable source of information? Should we, as lifelong learners use these sources to interpret the world around us, or do we need to reference additional sources to provide a well-rounded understanding of history? Directions: Your task is to answer the question, to what extent can historical fiction be used to understand a historical event? Your response must include specific examples focusing on the Challenges of Colonialism, and will be presented in an infographic.
Reliable Mostly Reliable Mostly Unreliable Unreliable Must Do’s:
q Behind the Scenes: o Record examples using a minimum of 3 credible sources on how
reliable historical fiction/films can be in understanding the Challenges of Colonialism?
§ Use both primary and secondary sources in your response o Take at least one original photograph and find additional
images/graphics to include in your Infographic q Front and Centre:
o Produce an Infographic to simplify and synthesize the details of your topic – how reliable is historical fiction in understanding historical events?
o Be sure to include: § Original photograph(s) § Additional images/graphs/graphics § Three source examples that support your overall claim (at least
one primary source) q Up Close:
