Then they came near, and spoke before the king concerning the king's interdict: 'Hast thounot signed an interdict, that every man that shall make petition unto any god or man withinthirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions?' The king answered and

2,1And the LORD prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah; and Jonah

was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. 2,2Then Jonahprayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly. 2,3And he said: Icalled out of mine affliction unto the LORD, and He answered me; out ofthe belly of the nether-world cried I, and Thou heardest my voice. 2,4 ForThou didst cast me into the depth, in the heart of the seas, and the flood

And I said: 'I am cast out from before Thine eyes'; yet I will look againtoward Thy holy temple. 2,6The waters compassed me about, even tothe soul; the deep was round about me; the weeds were wrapped aboutmy head. 2,7 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earthwith her bars closed upon me for ever; yet hast Thou brought up my life

from the pit, O LORD my God. 2,8When my soul fainted within me, Iremembered the LORD; and my prayer came in unto Thee, into Thy holytemple. 2,9They that regard lying vanities forsake their own mercy. 2,10But I will sacrifice unto Thee with the voice of thanksgiving; that which Ihave vowed I will pay. 24 Then King Nebuchadnezzar leaped to his feet in amazement and asked hisadvisers, Werent there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?

They replied, Certainly, Your Majesty. 25 He said, Look! I see four menwalking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks likea son of the gods. 26 Nebuchadnezzar then approached the opening of theblazing furnace and shouted, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, servants ofthe Most High God, come out! Come here! So Shadrach, Meshach and

e nego came out o t e re, an t e satraps, pre ects, governors anroyal advisers crowded around them. They saw that the fire had not harmedtheir bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed; their robes were notscorched, and there was no smell of fire on them. 28 Then Nebuchadnezzarsaid, Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who hassent his angel and rescued his servants! They trusted in him and defied the

kings command and were willing to give up their lives rather than serve orworship any god except their own God. 29 Therefore I decree that the peopleof any nation or language who say anything against the God of Shadrach,Meshach and Abednego be cut into pieces and their houses be turned intopiles of rubble, for no other god can save in this way. 30 Then the kingpromoted Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the province of Babylon.
