The focus of this course is on business productivity software applications and professional behavior in computing, including word processing (as needed), spreadsheets, databases, presentation graphics, and business-oriented utilization of the Internet.

Participation PolicySince this is an online class, no on-campus attendance is required. However, students are expected to log in and participate actively via eCampus. http://ecampus.dcccd.eduTry to check emails daily and access the class at least 3 times a week. The final grade for the class reflects evaluation of the student’s work on the following assignments:

Note Pages: The note pages are to be completed as you read each chapter in your book.

Discussion Boards: Discussion board comments are entered online under the Discussion Board navigation button. You are encouraged to post a short biographical sketch about yourself (and a digital picture if you have one) and share your comments/ideas/research about eight discussion topics (and to react to the comments of others).

Projects: The SAM lessons will introduce you to Windows and teach you the basics of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access. The projects require you to implement what you learned in the lessons. There are 7 project assignments.

Case Study: You will complete one case study. The case study will present an IT (Information Technology) problem that will require you to research, document your sources, identify advantages and disadvantages, analyze your findings, implement, and make a recommendation.

Project Skill Exams: Skill exams will be administered online using SAM during the week indicated in the Due Dates-Class Outline document. These exams will test Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access skills. There is no time limit on the skill exams. There are two skill exams.

Concept Exams: Concept exams will be administered online during the week indicated in the Due Dates-Class Outline document. Most of the questions on the exam will be derived from the readings and note pages. There is no time limit on the skill exams. There are 2 exams.

IncompletesAn incomplete grade of "I" may be given when an unforeseen emergency prevents you from completing the work for this class. Contact the instructor immediately if there is a situation preventing you finishing the class.
