Introduction

1 General Information

1.1 Introduction

Software Manager can be implemented for the communication systems HiPath 2000, HiPath3000 and HiPath 5000. It allows you to perform the following tasks:

● Display system software versions

● Update system software

● Create system software backups

With the Software Manager you can quickly and efficiently analyze all the main HiPath compo-nents with a Web browser. In addition, you can determine which components are assigned to

which individual HiPath nodes.

And you can invoke additional serviceability web services such as the Inventory Manager fromthe portal page. With Inventory Manager, you can quickly obtain a complete overview of all in-tegrated components and installed applications in the HiPath network.

2 Getting to Know the Software Manager

In this chapter you will learn how to log onto and off from the Software Manager and become

familiar with the Software Manager interface.

2.1 The portal

After installation, the Common Web Service stores a desktop icon for starting the portal pageon the server. The link to the portal page has the following general structure:

<protocol>://{<host name>|<IP address>}:<port number>

For example:

http://pdbh834a:8280" or "https://pdbh834a:8443"

From this page you can access the following serviceability web services for the HiPath network:

● Inventory Manager With the Inventory Manager, you can quickly obtain a complete overview of all integratedcomponents and installed applications in the HiPath network.

● Software Manager

The portal page can also be reached from the programs listed there. Use the Portal icon in the

toolbar to do this.

2.2 Login

The Software Manager runs automatically once the server has been started up and remainsactive in the background. As soon as the Software Manager is accessed with the browser, theLogin dialog appears.

The ideal Software Manager display can be achieved by setting the screen resolution to1024x768 pixels or higher.

>The visibility of additional serviceability web services on the portal page depends onwhether they have been registered with the portal.

2.2.1 Logging on

The link to the Software Manager can be called up via the portal page.

You can log into the system by entering the username and password which have been assignedto your HiPath system. This data entered is then verified via the DB Feature Server.

1. Enter your username and password in the respective fields. The password entered is hid-den by asterisks.

>If the connection has been established via HTTP (port 8280), you can establish aconnection via the HTTPS protocol (port 8443) by using theAuthentication via SSL link. Unlike HTTP, all data transferred is now encrypted.If there are problems with the HTTPS connection, use HTTP access instead. For se-curity reasons, however, the HTTPS connection should be the preferred connectionto the server.Cookies and JavaScript must be enabled in your browser settings for the pages todisplay correctly.If a proxy server is being used and you need to bypass it, see section A.2, “Bypass-ing the Proxy Server”.

>User names and passwords are centrally administered for the entire system byHiPath Manager E. With the help of this program, you can change usernamesand passwords.For more information on the assignment of usernames and passwords, pleaserefer to the HiPath Manager E documentation.

2. Click the Login button. The data is updated and the Software Manager is activated.

The Reset button undoes the last changes made.

Once you have successfully logged in, you will see a message showing when the system infor-mation was last updated. Press OK to confirm it.

2.2.2 Logging off

To end the Software Manager, select Log off in the navigation area and click the Log off now button.If you wish to continue working with the Software Manager, you must log in again (see section2.2.1, “Logging on”).

>

If error messages such as "Incorrect user name and/or password" are displayedafter you have logged in, follow the instructions in the error message.

>After 30 minutes of no activity, the connection between the browser and the systemis automatically disconnected. If you want to perform further actions with the Soft-ware Manager, you must log in again.

>If error messages are displayed on the screen after successfully logging in, for ex-ample, “There are defective backups. Please check the status of the last backup”,follow the instructions in the error message.

The Software Manager interface consists of HTML pages, which can be opened with an HTMLbrowser (Internet Explorer V5.01 or later or Firefox 1.0.1). This means that the Software Man-ager is platform-independent and can run on all current operating systems.

Each HTML page basically consists of five areas:

● Navigation area

● Work area

● Action menu

● Toolbar

● Status bar

2.3.1 Navigation area

The navigation area contains the various Software Manager menu items. If you click a menuitem, the corresponding page appears in the work area. If a menu item contains submenus, asmall plus icon is displayed in front of the menu item. When you click on the plus icon, the sub-menus are displayed and the plus icon is replaced by a minus icon. Click one of the submenuitems to display the relevant page in the work area. Click the minus icon to hide the submenusagain.

The menu items are dynamic. This means that the number of menu items displayed may

change depending on the scenario.

>If the work area and action menu cannot be fully displayed due to the size of thebrowser window, horizontal or vertical scroll bars appear at the edges and you canuse them to scroll the section displayed.

2.3.2 Work area

The work area displays overviews of the various HiPath system components in your HiPath net-work. The individual system components are displayed in tabular format. The individual table

columns depend on the selected overview. Individual components can be selected with thehelp of the control boxes and drop-down lists.

The following figure shows an example of this.

Display

The tables are displayed in the work area. If the table cannot be fully displayed due to its size,

scroll bars appear at the right and/or bottom edge of the table.

Sort key

You can sort the table columns in ascending or descending order by clicking a column header.The current sort sequence is displayed in the column header:

– (A>Z): Alphabetically ascending

– (Z>A): Alphabetically descending

Some columns cannot be used as sort keys (for example Upgrade status).

Information displaying the status of the individual components is represented by colors with thefollowing meanings:

To select a component, place a checkmark in the Select column.

You can activate/deactivate all table entries with the Select all checkbox.

If there is more than one option to choose from, a drop-down list will appear in the table. Clickthe arrow next to the selection window and select the desired option.

2.3.3 Action menu

You can perform various actions in the action menu. The number and choice of buttons dis-played depends on what was selected in the navigation area.You can find descriptions of the individual buttons under the respective menu items.

In the Software Manager toolbar you will find buttons with which you can open the help menuand the start page regardless of the selected menu.

The individual toolbar buttons and their meanings:

Updating system information

3 Requesting System Information

The Inventory Manager provides the Software Manager with the number of systems and the

system information to be included. As soon as the browser is used to access the Software Man-ager, an information window containing the date and time of the last system request appearson the Inventory Manager after login (see section 2.2, “Login”). This request is made automat-ically every 24 hours. You can also trigger the request manually (see section 3.1, “Updating sys-tem information”).

3.1 Updating system information

1. Click Update system information.The date and time of the last update are displayed.

2. Click Update data.This starts the system information update. As soon as the update is complete, the date andtime of the last update are displayed in the status bar.

Depending on the size of the whole system, the update may take a few minutes.

Always wait until the update is complete before performing other actions. This ensures that your

actions are always performed with the most up-to-date data.

>If changes have been made to the HiPath network or its components before the Soft-ware Manager is activated, we recommend that you manually trigger a system infor-mation request as automatic updates are performed every 24 hours.

The overview columns have the following meanings:

Column Meaning

Node Indicates the node number.

Component Specifies the name of the board and additional information (ver-sion, location).

IP address Indicates the IP address of the component.

Software version Indicates the software version currently installed on the system.

Last restart – <Date> Indicates the date of the last restart.

– <Time> Indicates the time of the last restart.

4 Upgrading System Components

The Software Manager enables you to upgrade the system software of the individual compo-

nents centrally from any PC in the HiPath network.

From various menu items in the navigation area, you can choose the system groups for whichyou wish to upgrade the system software.

4.1 Selecting overviews for the upgrade

You can choose from the following overviews for upgrading the individual components:

● Upgrading HiPath 3000 ComScendo Service and HG1500

● Upgrade HG1500

● Upgrade HiPath 3000 ComScendo Service

● Upgrade HiPath 2000 ComScendo Service



Column Meaning

Select The checkbox for selecting the components.


Component Specifies the name of the board and additional information (ver-sion, location).

IP address Indicates the IP address of the board.

Software version

– curr. (current) Software version currently installed on the system.

– shdw. (shadowed) Software version installed in the "shadow memory".

– avail. (available) Software available on the TFTP server.

Last restart

– <Date> Indicates the date of the last restart.

– <Time> Indicates the time of the last restart.

The following status messages are displayed in the Switchover time/status column:

Switchover time/status

– <Date> Indicates the preselected date for switchover.

– <Time> Indicates the preselected time for switchover.

– <Status> Indicates the current status of the upgrade.

Upgrade status

– Empty field Indicates whether the system is in idle state.

– Percentage Indicates the status in percent for a software transfer.

– <not available> Indicates that the system is not available.

Message Meaning

Ready to switch over A valid APS to which the system can be switched is loaded inthe shadow memory.

Switchover not possible No switchover is possible because, for example, there is no val-id APS installed in the shadow memory.

Timed switchover There is a valid APS installed in the shadow memory andswitchover at a preselected time is enabled.

Not available An error (for example, Timeout) occurred while detecting thesystem status, so that the status cannot be determined.

Message Meaning

Empty field The component is currently idle and is not performing any ac-tions.

Loading software The component is currently loading new software to the shadowarea.

Error An error occurred while performing an action.

Not available An error (for example, Timeout or Board cannot be found) oc-curred while detecting the status.

If you click this menu item, all HG 1500 boards with version 3.0 or later (earlier HG 1500 boards

cannot be updated with Software Manager) are displayed in an overview.


4.1.3 Upgrade HiPath 3000 ComScendo Service

Click this menu item to display an overview of all HiPath 3000 ComScendo Services.


4.1.4 Upgrade HiPath 2000 ComScendo Service


The HiPath 2000 ComScendo Service and its two software images (operating system and ap-plications) are updated.

4.2 Upgrading components

1. Select one of the overviews.

2. Select the components either individually in the Select column or select all itemized com-ponents with the Select all checkbox in the action menu.

If there are different software versions available, they are displayed in a drop-down list andcan be selected as required.Before you can select these software versions, you must first save them on the TFTP serv-er of your HiPath system (see section 6.3, “Upgrade settings”).

3. Where possible, select the desired software for the respective components. The newestsoftware version is usually displayed first in the drop-down list.

The software is upgraded in two steps.In the first step, the new software version is loaded to a system memory known as the "shadowmemory" while the current software is still running in the actual process.The software is uploaded in the background, independently of the system status.In the second step, the system must be switched over in order to activate the new software.First, the current software is replaced by the new software in the shadow memory. The systemis then automatically reset and the new software is started up.

4. From the drop-down list, select one of the menu items described below.

>All components of a node are always selected by default. Simply uncheck thecorresponding checkbox for components you do not want to update. Theswitchover time is automatically reset for deactivated components.

Drop-down List Meaning

Only load software The selected software version is uploaded to the shadowmemory.

Load software and switch overimmediately

The selected software version is uploaded to the shadowmemory, and as soon as the upload is complete the sys-tem becomes active with the new software.

Load software and switch overlater The selected software version is uploaded to the shadowmemory and the system is switched over at a preset time.An input field appears in which you can set the date andtime of the switchover. When the input field first appears,it displays the current date and time.Enter the desired date and time for the switchover in theinput field and confirm the entries with the "Set switcho-ver time" button.

Cyclical option

If the Cyclical option is activated, the displayed HTML page is auto-reloaded after a specifiedrefresh interval. While an upgrade is in progress, the current status of the upgrade is displayed

as a percentage. You can specify the interval in the “Settings” menu under “General settings”(see section 6.1, “General settings”).

Refresh button

You can manually reload the HTML page displayed by clicking the Refresh button. During anupgrade, the current upgrade status is displayed in percent. The new software version is dis-played once the upgrade is complete.

When you exit this HTML page after upgrading, it is reassigned the system informa-tion from the Inventory Manager. To update the current software version in the sys-tem information, click Update data in the System information - Update system in-formation menu item (see section 3.1, “Updating system information”).

5 Backup of System Components

The Software Manager enables you to centrally backup all system data as well as various da-

tabases.

You can backup the following data types:

● System data of all HiPath 2000 ComScendo services (including customer data memory)



● System data of all HiPath 5000 LAN device handlers

● System data of all HG 1500s

● Databases (SQL Server)

● DB Feature Server

5.1 Directory structure

The backup data is saved under the path that is specified during setup. This can be subse-quently changed in the Settings menu (see section 6.2, “Backup settings”).

The following subdirectories are created for the individual components in this path:

● ApplicationsNot yet in use.

● DBFSBackup data for the DB Feature Server.

● H2000CSBackup data for the HiPath 2000 ComScendo Service.

Backup data sub-directories

For components which may occur multiple times, such as HiPath 2000 ComScendo Service,HiPath 3000 ComScendo Service, HiPath 5000 ComScendo Service and HG 1500, the backupdata is sorted and stored according to the system name and IP address.

The subdirectory names consist of the component IP address and the system name. They areformatted as follows: <IP ADDRESS>_<SYSTEM NAME> (for example,

124.345.14.3_system1).

5.2 Backup files

The corresponding backup files are structured in the following way:

Example: The backup file which was created on May 14, 2002 at 15.46 hours and 32 secondsby the component system1 with the IP address 123.252.13.4, is stored with the following name:

05142002_154632_123.252.13.4_system1.kds

You can either manually run the backup straight away or specify a time for a complete backup(Autobackup) of all components, when your data is to be saved.This data can be restored with the respective component administration programs.

You can change the default settings for automatic backup in the Settings menu (see section6.2, “Backup settings”).

Unknown Indicates that the type of backup could not be identified (this isusually caused by a serious error).

- Indicates that the backup status could not be identified (for ex-ample, because no backup has yet been performed).

Message MeaningAutomatic Indicates that the last backup was performed due to a cyclic au-

tomatic backup.

Single, manually Indicates that the last component backup was initiated manuallyfrom the selection list.

Complete, manually Indicates that the last component backup was initiated manuallyfrom the complete backup.

Unknown Indicates that the type of backup could not be identified(for example, because no backup has yet been performed).

The complete backup of your data is preset by default. You can deactivate the automatic back-up or change the default settings for automatic backup under "Backup settings" in the "Settings"menu (see section 6.2, “Backup settings”).

The following components located by the system query are backed up:

● HG 1500 boards version 3.0 or later (earlier HG 1500 boards cannot be backed up usingthe Software Manager)

● HiPath 2000 ComScendo Service, HiPath 3000 ComScendo Service and HiPath 5000ComScendo Service

● HiPath 5000 LAN Device Handler

● DB Feature Server

● Databases (SQL Server)

Manual start of complete backup

Start the complete backup by clicking the Manually start complete backup now button.

Message Meaning

n.r. No response (the component did not respond when data wasrequested).

n.a. Not available (the component could not be contacted).

Inc. Incomplete (the component data could not be fully identified).

XML error The data request performed by the HiPath Inventory Server re-turned faulty XML data.

5.3.2 Backup HG 1500

Click this menu item to display an overview of all HG 1500 boards with version 3.0 or later (ear-lier HG 1500 boards cannot be backed up using the Software Manager).

To perform a backup for these components, proceed as described in section 5.4, “Backup com-ponents”.

The data to be backed up For HG 1500s is stored in a CONFIG file. If the HG 1500 is operatedin SSL mode, this data is stored in a second CONFIG file.

The data can only be restored using HG 1500 Web Based Management.

5.3.3 Backup HiPath 3000 ComScendo Service

Click this menu item to display an overview of all HiPath 3000 ComScendo Services.To perform a backup for these components, proceed as described in section 5.4, “Backup com-ponents”.

The data to be backed up for HiPath 3000 ComScendo Service is stored in a KDS file.

The data can only be restored using HiPath Manager E.

5.3.4 Backup HiPath 5000 LAN Device Handler

Click this menu item to display an overview of all HiPath 5000 LAN Device Handlers. The Hi-

Path 5000 LAN Device Handler is a HiPath 5000 component and is only displayed if HiPath5000 is installed in the network.


The data to be backed up for a HiPath 5000 LAN Device Handler is stored in a CONFIG file. Ifthe HiPath 5000 LAN Device Handler is operated in SSL mode, this data is stored in a secondCONFIG file.

The data can only be restored using HG 1500 Web Based Management.

The data to be backed up for a HiPath 5000 ComScendo Service is stored in a KDS file.

The data can only be restored using HiPath Manager E.



There are two backup components for the HiPath 2000 ComScendo Service: one for Com-

Scendo and one for the LAN configuration. When a backup file is selected, the other backupfile for the same node is automatically activated as well. As a result, a complete node backupis always performed.


The data to be backed up for a HiPath 2000 ComScendo Service is stored in a KDS file and aCONFIG file.

This data can only be restored using HiPath Manager E or HiPath 2000 Web Based Manage-ment.

5.3.7 Database backup

Click this menu item to display an overview of all databases (SQL Server and DB Feature Serv-er).


SQL Server data is stored in DB files. In the case of the DB Feature Server, the vsrv.ini fileis backed up.

To restore SQL databases see section 5.5, “Performing SQL restore”.To restore the DB Feature Server, replace the vsrv.ini file for the DB Feature Server instal-lation.

2. Select the components either individually in the Select column or select all itemized com-ponents with the Select all checkbox in the action menu.

3. Click the Backup button to start the backup procedure.

Refresh buttonYou can manually reload the HTML page displayed by clicking the Refresh button.

Cyclical option

If the Cyclical checkbox is activated, the currently displayed HTML page will be automaticallyrefreshed after a specified interval. You can specify the interval in the “Settings” menu under“General settings” (see section 6.1, “General settings”).If you want to make a configuration change, deactivate the Cyclical option first.

Performing SQL restore

5.5 Performing SQL restore

You can restore the following SQL databases:

●

WBService database (configuration and call charge data from PCM and Call Accounting,configuration data from the Inventory Manager and Software Manager).

● MSDB database (SQL server system database).

● Master database (SQL server system database).

1. Click the SQL restore button to obtain an overview of the databases that can be restored.

2. From the list, select the database backup you would like to restore and click the SQL re-store button.

This view only displays WBService database backups. Usually, you only need to restore theWBService database.If you click the Extended checkbox, an overview of all databases is displayed.

To restore a Master database, the MSDE must be working in individual user mode. For moreinformation on changing the user modi, please refer to the MSDE documentation. To restorethe Master database, exit the SQL server and go to the DOS shell. Start the file sqlservr.exe with the parameter "-m". After the Master database has been restored, the MSDE must bestarted as a service again.

>For information on restoring other components, please refer to the documentationfor HiPath Manager E and for HG 1500 Web Based Management.

6 Settings

This menu item is divided into:

● General settings

● Backup settings

● Upgrade settings

● HG1500 settings

Under this menu item, you can enter the default settings for creating backups and updating sys-tem components. In addition, you can also configure cyclic processes.The following sections describe the settings in detail.

6.1 General settings

Under this submenu item, you can specify the interval at which HTML pages are refreshed.

In addition, you can also enter the SNMP read community for the HiPath network here. The DBFeature Server provides the Software Manager with the SNMP write community.

Click the Apply button to confirm your settings.


Input field Meaning

Refresh cycle for auto reload-ing pages in sec.

Enter the interval in seconds at which HTML pages are re-freshed. This requires the Cyclical option to have been

clicked on the corresponding HTML pages.

SNMP Read Community The password is required for requesting individual nodes.

Make the relevant settings for the backup here.

●

Select the directory in which the backup service should store the backup files.● You can activate or deactivate automatic backup of the complete system. If automatic back-

up is activated (default setting), you can make further settings.

● In addition, you can specify how many previous backups for the same component shouldbe retained and how many backup processes should run simultaneously.

The data for the automatic complete backup is set by default during setup and can be subse-quently changed in this menu.

Input field Meaning

Backup path Specify the path where the backup files should be saved.The destination can be any PC within your HiPath network.You must check beforehand under which account SoftwareManager has been started. This account must have write per-mission for the selected backup directory (see also sectionA.1, “Software Manager Environment”).A backup should not be performed on the local hard disk. Thenetwork path should have the UNC format“\\<Host>\<Share>\<Backup path>” and must be created be-forehand.

Backup onto a local device Select this option if you want to store the backup files on a lo-cal drive.

Backup onto a remote device Select this option if you want to store the backup files on a net-work drive. You also need to enter the domain and usernames and the password for access to the network drive.To enable write access to the network drive, correspondingrights must be configured under Windows.

Username (DomainName/ Username)Password:

If you selected the Backup to a network drive option, enterthe domain and user names and the password here to gainaccess to the network drive.

Activate automatic backup Activate the checkbox if you want the backup to be performedautomatically.

Automatic backup cycle in days If the Activate automatic backup box is checked, you cannow enter the interval in days after which a backup of yourdata should be performed automatically. Default setting: 1.

If the Activate automatic backup checkbox is activated, youcan select the time at which the backup should be automati-

cally performed once the set number of days have passed.Default setting: 23:50

Start date of the next backup If the Activate automatic backup checkbox is activated, youcan select the date on which the automatic backup shouldnext be performed. Default setting: Installation day.

Maximum amount of savedbackups

Specify here how many previous backups of the same com-ponent should be retained. Whenever the maximum numberof backups has been reached, the last backup will be deleted.Default setting: 7.

Maximum amount of simulta-neous backup processes

Specify here how many backup processes can run at thesame time. It is important to limit the number, as it may leadto a high processor load in larger systems and thus impair theentire system.Default setting: 3.

For component upgrade, the APS files are first copied to a TFTP server from which the datacan be accessed (see also section A.1, “Software Manager Environment”). The IP address ofthe TFTP server is configured during setup. To change the IP address manually, you can enterthe new IP address information in the input field here.

Consider time zone This option allows you to take into consideration time zonedifferences between the server PC and each HiPath node.

This also includes potential differences caused by daylightsaving time.If this option is not activated, actions are performed at thetimes set for the PC server.If this option is activated, the programmed times are basedon the local time for the HiPath nodes.

Maximum amount of simulta-neous upgrade processes

Specify here how many upgrade processes can run simul-taneously. It is important to limit the number, as it may leadto a high processor load in larger systems and thus impairthe entire system.

To upgrade or back up a HG 1500 board, you require the HTTP protocol. To register on the HG1500 board via this protocol, you require the following settings:

Secure Mode (SSL) Select this option if you want to backup the HG 1500board data over a secure connection. You also need toprovide the correct HTTPS port and passphrase.

Https Port Specify the HTTPS port for the secure connection here(default setting: 443).

Passphrase Enter here a sequence of ASCII characters (7 - 32 char-

acters) for the passphrase used for encrypting the back-up. You will need this passphrase later, when you wantto reload the backup to the HG 1500 board. The enteredcharacters are not displayed.

Repeated passphrase Repeat the passphrase for security reasons.

Show Passphrase button Since the passphrase is normally not displayed, you canuse this button to display it in ASCII characters.

A.1 Software Manager Environment

● From the Software Manager point of view, the environment comprises

● a TFTP server

● a PC for storing the central backup files

● other HiPath components (for example, HG 1500, ComScendo Services)

● your own PC.

In addition to the Software Manager, the DB Feature Server, MSDE, the FM Reporting Client,the Common Web Service and the Inventory Manager must always be running on your PC.

TFTP server

The APS files for upgrade functionality are stored on the TFTP server. From here, system com-ponents can upgrade independently via TFTP. The IP address of this server must be known,as it is requested during Software Manager setup. Depending on the system configuration, theTFTP server can be installed on the same PC as Software Manager.

PC for central backup files

In addition to the local drive, backup files can be stored on a separate PC in the network. A

Windows file share must be set up so that the Software Manager can access this drive. Enterthe path for this share in the Software Manager backup settings.

Example: A share called "public" has been created on the PC "pdbh809a". The backup files onthis PC should be saved in a subfolder named "backupfiles". The backup path should be:\\pdbh809a\public\backupfiles.

The Software Manager has been implemented as a Windows service so that it can start withouta user logon. Normal Windows services run under a user account known as "LocalSystemAc-count". On the local PC, this user is a type of administrator with all the necessary rights. How-ever, because this user does not have to be authenticated on the system, he/she has no net-

work rights.

Software Manager Environment

As a result, a user with the following authorization rights must be configured for creating filebackups on the network drive:

● Full access rights to the central backup directory, in other words a network share

● Password aging should not be activated in this account, as additional administrative workwould be required to run the service again after the password has expired

● The user should be a domain user who is known network-wide

This user must be entered in the Software Manager backup settings together with the relevantpassword.

Other HiPath components

The authorization rights for the Software Manager PC must not be deactivated for HG 1500

boards, HiPath 5000 LAN Device Handlers or HiPath 2000 ComScendo Services. If theserights are deactivated, the Software Manager will not be able to access the boards (WBM via"Explorer->Security").

Please also ensure that the share directories of all default components have Read permissionset for the account on which the Software Manager is running (as with the central backup filedirectory). This expansion is required if, for example, a HiPath 5000 is available.
