Panguni Uthiram is a very auspicious event which occurs once every year in the month of Panguni (Phalguna) when the Uthira nakshatram coincides with the full moon. It is the birthday of Sri Mahalakshmi and on this day Lord Sri Ranganatha (Balaji) and Sri Mahalakshmi are seen together in Sri Mahalakshmi's Sannidhi (Sanctum). Bhagavad Ramanujacharya was enthralled by this divine sight of the Divya Dampathi and composed the 3 Gadyams - Saranagathi gadyam, Sri Ranga gadyam and Sri Vaikunta gadyam for the benefit of the Lord’s devotees.
