Over the years, the Directorate ofCorrespondence Courses moved towards absorbing the emerging philosophy of distanceeducation and adopting multimedia approach to impart instruction. Since its very inception, theICDEOL has proved to be a pioneer institution in the field of distant education and openlearning not only in Himachal Pradesh but also in north India. It has become a light houseof learning for persons of all ages and genders particularly to such persons who, fordifferent reasons, can not avail the higher course of studies as regular full time students.It has been striving to extend the reach of higher education to different sections of thesociety located in divergent geographical areas in the state and outside the state. It is aneffort to equip the adult community with tools and skills to attain professional competence.Focusing on the rural economy, tribal region, tough terrain is one of the mission of theICDEOL and it tries to encourage student enrolment from among weaker sections evenbeyond the reservation limit. Regular mode of education is not sufficient enough to reachthis goal. The basic philosophy of our aim is to “Reach the Unreached”. The teaching-learning process of history is closely related to the study of past not simply for the pastalone; it aims to understand the present also in a critical manner. The mission andobjective of the programme is to motivate the prospective learners to get acquainted withthe latest findings as well as research methodology of history as a discipline. It aims tocater the growing demands of the learners not only for those who want to be a teachersor researchers, but also to those who intend to be administrators, journalists or evenprofessionals. The school also attempts to encourage the learners to go for researches.

It aims to promote the holistic development through academic excellence,employability, acquisition of analytical skills and higher research. The ICDEOL aims tointroduce B Com program under open and distance learning mode of education with aview to provide opportunities to access to higher education. The motive is to developmanagerial skills among the rural as well as urban people. The courses are designed forall willing, qualified and working people who could not pursue the education in regularmode. The need and aspirations of the youth in the region is one of the missions of theInternational Centre for Distance Education and Open Learning (ICDEOL). It tries toencourage students’ enrolment from among weaker section and even beyond thereservation limit. The programme aims to achieve the following objectives: 1. The Himachal Pradesh University was established in the year 1970, and immediatelyafter its establishment, the Himachal Pradesh University took a bold step towardsproliferation of knowledge and democratization of educational opportunities by setting upthe Directorate of Correspondence Courses in 1971. The University has played apioneering role in launching the programme of Distance Education at the Undergraduateand Postgraduate level. It was the first to impart instruction at post graduate level in socialsciences, humanities, commerce and teacher training through the mode of distanceeducation. Over the years, the Directorate of Correspondence Courses moved towardsabsorbing the emerging philosophy of distance education and adopting multi-mediaapproach to impart instruction. Further undertakes to ensure that the HEI shall display on its website a joint declaration by authorized signatories, Registrar and Director ofCentre for Internal Quality Assurance, authenticating the documents uploaded on its website, in compliance of regulation 9 of UGC (Openand Distance Learning Programmes and Online Programmes) Regulations, 2020.

The HEI hereby declare that the information given above and in the enclosed documents is true, correct and nothing material has beenconcealed therein.
