THE HOTEL
Hilton N'Djamena, a 194-room property is the first Hilton Hotels &
Resorts property in Chad.
The contemporary property, which includes 11 suites, provides
guests with resort-style facilities situated perfectly for those
travelling for business. Hilton N'Djamena is an impressive venue for
corporate events or banquets with eight flexible meeting and event
spaces, including a ballroom that caters for up to 500 people. The
hotel offers a fully equipped business center and is a great spot for
hosting conferences. For leisure travellers looking to unwind, the
hotel's 24-hour health club features the latest cardio and strength-
training equipment as well as an impressive outdoor pool for a
relaxing space to revitalise and energise.
THE CHALLENGE
Nonius and Salim Group (SGI), a diversified holding company based in
California, USA, were selected to provide their solutions and services
for the newest Hilton hotel on the African continent. This project was
a large scale undertaking, which was established in July 2014, when
the two companies began early stage conceptual and design efforts
for the hotel - while it was still under construction. A Hospitality IT
project of this magnitude, required an in depth, coordinated effort
from Nonius’ team of seasoned experts including: Sales Engineering,
Professional Services, Finance and Logistics.
Nonius and SGI had to design, develop and deliver a fully technology
package for guest IT for the 194-room Hilton N'Djamena.

INTERACTIVE TV
The HTML5 Interactive TV System is available in each
room via LG Pro:Centric Smart TVs. The in-room
entertainment solution offers premium TV channels
from two major TV operators, hotel information, VoD,
Guest Directory, News, Weather, Flights, and much
more. The IP based entertainment experience was
even extended to exercise machines in the fitness
center.
IP TELEPHONY
Nonius’ VoIP telephony solution was
implemented to reduce the complexity
typically associated with hotel PBX systems.
Call Accounting and PMS interfacing was
achieved with single appliance - with no need
t o i m p l e m e n t ex t e r n a l a d a p t o r s o r
middleware. NONIUS.VOIP allows for calls
over the Wi-Fi for staff. Whatsmore, system
is integrated into the hotel’s PA, so public area
phones can be used for announcement by
hotel staff. Finally, to help reduce local long
distance costs, Nonius and SGI integrated the
VOIP appliance with cellular gateways.
HIGH SPEED INTERNET ACCESS
The Guest Internet Access Solution is managed by the
Nonius gateway ensuring guests have fast internet
experience, which tends to be a major challenge in
Africa. Full Wi-Fi coverage is available inside and
outside of property by using both Ruckus Zonediretor
and Access Points. In a few areas of the property a
wireless mesh was implemented in order to extended
coverage because running additional cable was not
possible.

technology standards, such as High Speed Internet Access, Interactive TV, Digital Signage, IP Telephony, Business Center kiosk, Networking,
Servers and Workstations.

DIGITAL SIGNAGE
Digital Signage services runs on Nonius low powered STBs in the Meeting Rooms
Area, keeping conferences attendees and guests updated with the latest
information about scheduled events or meetings in progress, as well as supporting
the promotion of any hotel service or special offers planned for the week. In the
restaurant and in the bars, multiple corporate channels with slideshows are
promoting the hotel’s brand and services. At the concierge desk, the Airport Info
Signage feature provides real-time flight schedules from the local airport.
BUSINESS CENTER KIOSK
In partnership with HP, the Hilton N'Djamena Business
Center features the latest generation of small form factor
PC running the Nonius Business Center APP.
The Business Center APP conveniently manages and
secures the hotel’s 4 public area PCs. It features customize
dashboard of guest centric application that matches brand
standard. Since usability is a key factor, all guest needs to
do is sign using their Wi-Fi credentials. Guest Internet
privacy is preserved because all user data is purged after
signing out.
CONVERGED NETWORK
In order to reduce the cost of cabling and infrastructure, Nonius
and SGI implemented all services based on a Cat6a infrastructure
with a fiber backbone using HP switches end-to-end. By
converging these services, the hotel eliminated the need for a
separate infrastructures for the TV, Phone, Guest Internet, Wi-Fi
and IP Security Cameras systems. From the long term
maintenance perspective, it's less complex to support and
manage. The end results, a saving in both CAPEX and OPEX costs.

SERVERS AND WORKSTATIONS
No IT Project would be complete without a state of servers running the hotel’s mission critical business
applications and updated technology for the front and back office staff. The joint engineering teams
mounted 7 racks and configured 6 servers (included PMS) and deployed more than 80 staff workstations
in Microsoft Windows environment; in addition to the Nonius systems.

As a true hotel partner, Nonius not only deployed its technology, but also managed
this project including subcontractors and 3rd party OEMs. From a logistics
perspective, the Nonius Logistics team managed a complex warehousing and
freight forwarding effort. It included several ocean containers loaded with IT
equipment headed to Central Africa’s main port.
