Britain) Ltd. has been awarded with the prestigious Sunday Times ‘Best Companies to Work For’ award. This award is the only guide to the UK's best companies to work for that is based on what the employees really think. Best Companies Ltd. has developed a rigorous way to assess what it's like to work for a company, with a survey provided to each employee to determine what matters to them (over 500,000 surveys were distributed to employees during the assessment period) in the form of total confidential feedback. Based on the employee answers to the survey, each organisation is given a Best Companies Index (BCI) score on a scale of 1 to 1,000. Depending on an organisation's BCI, it may achieve a one, two or three star status, which is the unique three-star accreditation system used by Best Companies Ltd. The purpose of the accreditation system is to produce a model based on employee engagement that has been developed over the last six years by Best Companies Ltd. This year has seen some amazing results with 795 organisations applying to achieve ‘Star Status’, a 21% increase on applications in 2008. 639 organisations made it through the process and since September over 168,900 employees from these organisations have been surveyed. In total, 414 organisations achieved ‘Star Status’ success, with Hilti achieving a One Star Status. Year on year statistical analysis acquired through the employee surveys has shown that the eight main factors that are fundamental in driving employee satisfaction and engagement with employers are as follows; leadership, my company, personal growth, my manager, my team, giving something back, fair deal and well being. Being a best company is about excelling in every area throughout the workplace and an organisation's commitment to its most important assets - its workforce. Focusing on employees brings real benefits such as, improved workplace engagement, better staff retention, reduced recruitment costs and greater financial performance. Hilti strives to ensure the environment that its employees work within is outstanding, with regular employee satisfaction surveys, personal development plans, team-building workshops and incentive schemes offered to Hilti employees. Jonathan Austin, the Founder and CEO of Best Companies commented, “I would like to congratulate Hilti (GB) Ltd. on their outstanding achievement. Our role at Best Companies is to set a rigorous benchmark so that organisations can become even better employers. This year it is encouraging to see that the number of companies entering the accreditation scheme for excellence in workplace engagement has grown by over twenty percent."
