We pass our sincerest condolences onto Sue’s family at this very difficult time. Sue has been the face of the canteen at Hillvue Public School for many years and will be missed by students, staff and parents. In addition to running the canteen, Sue regularly attended P & C meetings and organised food and drinks for many school events. Nothing was ever a problem. I am sure you will understand that members of staff are very upset by Sue’s death. We appreciate your support during this very difficult time. Chris Shaw A/Executive Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

This morning we received the very sad news that our canteen supervisor Sue Holland passed

away quietly in her sleep. We pass our sincerest condolences onto Sue’s family at this very

difficult time. Sue has been the face of the canteen at Hillvue Public School for many years and

will be missed by students, staff and parents. In addition to running the canteen, Sue regularly

attended P & C meetings and organised food and drinks for many school events. Nothing was

ever a problem. I am sure you will understand that members of staff are very upset by Sue’s

death. We appreciate your support during this very difficult time.

What’s happening in

1/2D In 1/2D we have been learning about wet and dry

environments.

We made rock pools using sand and real sea shells.

They are a wet environment.

We made cactuses in a hot desert.

They are found in a dry environment.

SPORTSVUE

Tamworth Zone PSSA Cross Country On Monday the 27th of May, 27 Hillvue students travelled to Barraba to represent Hillvue P.S at the Zone Cross Country competition. The 12/13 years and 11 years boys and girls had to run a 3km course whilst the 10 years and 8/9 years boys and girls had to run a 2km course. After the course walk in the morning we found that all courses contained 'heart break hill' right at the start! The Hillvue students displayed fantastic behaviour and sportsmanship throughout the day with students cheering on their teammates throughout the day. We ended up with 5 students moving to the next level: Tristian Roberts - 6th in the 12/13 years boys Lauren Sampson - 2nd in the 11 years girls Caleb Bergan - 1st in the 11 years boys Michael Colonel - 2nd in the 11 years boys Dempsey Nicholls - 5th in the 10 years boys These students will be competing at Coolah on Friday the 14th of June. We wish them the best of luck. Hillvue also managed to take out the teams event in the 11 years boys’ division. Team members were Caleb Bergan, Michael Colonel, Tyren Cloak and Stephen Murray. Jacqui Goodwin Cross Country Coordinator Peel Schools Rugby League Carnival The Peel Schools Rugby League Carnival will be held on Saturday 15th June 2013. Hillvue PS at this stage has entered an Open and Under 10’s team into the carnival. Permission notes can be obtained from Mrs Coombes. These notes must be returned as soon as possible so that teams may be finalised. Please note that a parent/carer must be in attendance at the carnival and be responsible for transport to and from the venue of their child. Wednesday Night Rugby League Competition Round 1 of the Wednesday Night Competition was finally played last week. Results for our teams were mixed. Opens winning their first round with a win over Tamworth PS but unfortunately our Under 10’s went down to Oxley Vale PS in a close game. Round 2 is scheduled for this coming Wednesday 5th June 2013. Opens – 4.40pm vs Tamworth South PS Under 10’s – 6pm vs Westdale Gold PSSA Rugby League Knockout Hillvue PS is drawn to play Westdale PS in Round 3 of the PSSA Knockout competition. The game will be played as part of the Wednesday Night Competition. This round will be played on Wednesday 12th June 2013. The game will be

played during the Open’s timeslot. Further details and confirmation of the team will be published soon. Hillvue PS Athletics Carnival The Athletics Carnival was finally held in fantastic weather last Tuesday. Both staff and students had a fabulous day and we managed to complete all scheduled events. Final ribbons were presented to placegetters during last Friday’s assembly. Athletic Champions for 2013 are as follows. Junior Girls - Alice Jerome Junior Boys - Dempsey Nicholls 11yrs Girls - Lauren Sampson 11yrs Boys - Caleb Bergan Senior Girls - Sharika Nean-Bell & Telina Brown Senior Boys - Alex McKee

Congratulations to these athletes and also to winning house – PIPER. The Tamworth Zone Athletics Carnival is to be held on Monday 19th August 2013 at the TRAC. Please note that not all place getters will be eligible to attend the Zone Carnival. Competitors must qualify for an event based on times and distance. Schools are also only able to send 2 track and 1 field competitor for each event. The Hillvue PS team will be finalised over the coming weeks and information regarding the event will be sent home with those students that have qualified. Premier’s Sporting Challenge Our school has registered to participate in the 2013 NSW Premier’s School Sport Challenge. The purpose of the challenge is to encourage students to participate in physical activity and to have more students, more active, more often. Over a 10 week period beginning on Monday 3rd June 2013 our K to 6 classes will be monitoring the physical activity we do during class time, at recess and lunch. Each student has been issued with a Challenge log book to record physical activity. Our students are really looking forward to participating in the challenge and having fun along the way.
