HILL HOUSE SIXTHA WHOLE NEW EXPERIENCE
Thank you for considering joining Hill House Sixth, where we offer a unique Sixth Form experience, which has been designed in consultation with parents and students, and which is at the cutting edge of post 16 provision in the area.
Not constrained by tradition or ideology, we aim to give
our students everything they need for the next step of
their educations and careers.
Exceptional A Level teaching is supported by our
renowned level of pastoral support and guidance.
Independence of thought and study is complemented
by our excellent Sixth Form Centre.
Our unique enrichment programme is embedded in the
curriculum and gives our students ‘The Edge’ that they
will need as they face the very competitive markets of
Higher Education and Employment when they leave in
two years’ time. It has been designed with our partner
universities, Sheffield, Leeds, York and Nottingham, and
a host of successful local businesses.
THE NEXT STEP
A full range of A level subjects is taught by highly
qualified and experienced teachers. Sixth Form study
entails a higher level of independence, a greater
level of excitement, and a more significant sense of
personal responsibility.
All subjects are supported by a programme
of learning opportunities outside of the classroom,
such as visits to university departments and
residential visits both nationally and abroad, which
are an essential part of the curriculum.
Being consistently the highest performing school in
the Doncaster area, we are confident that all of our
students achieve highly, developing the skills and
acquiring the results to move on successfully to the
next stage of life.
AIM HIGHER
THE EDGE In our unique embedded programme, one afternoon each
week is devoted to giving students ‘The Edge’ they need to
be successful in the next stage of life.
Links with our prestigious partner universities allow access to
lectures, workshops, tours, facilities and application advice.
Our internship programme allows students to apply for a
position with our partner businesses, leading to a fulfilling work
placement, and perhaps even a full time position after school
or university.
To complete the programme, there is a full spectrum of
other elements including careers’ advice, UCAS application
workshops and leadership courses.
At Hill House Sixth students continue to have
the opportunity to participate and compete in
a range of team and individual sports, such as
rugby, cricket, netball, hockey, athletics and
tennis. They may also choose to pursue personal
interests such as swimming, gym, golf and
horse riding.
Sixth Form students play prominent roles
in School music and drama, giving them
opportunities to develop leadership skills and
to build on their successful work in these areas
lower down the school. In addition, students can
participate in numerous other activities designed
exclusively for the Sixth Form body.
PLAY TO YOUR STRENGTHS
All our Sixth Form students are encouraged to pursue wider
academic experiences that will enable them to display and
develop those crucial independent study and research skills
that universities and employers value so highly. Flexibility
allows students to choose from a range of possible additional
courses such as Extended Project Qualifications which are so
valued by universities and a range of enrichment leadership
opportunities such as the Community
Sports Leaders Award.
The dedicated Sixth Form Centre provides
students with their own base within the
school grounds; a Lounge, Coffee Shop
and Work Area allow sixth formers to have
a calm and mature environment in which to
study and relax.
There are many opportunities, including
prefectships, sports’ captaincies and
activity organisation, for students to develop the essential
leadership skills which will help them as they move on to
become the next generation of leaders in society.
A NEW SENSE OFINDEPENDENCE
T H I N K I N G W I D E R
The Sixth Form is a wonderful time for exploring and developing talents further.
Departmental Field Trips and Residential Visits, Duke of Edinburgh Silver and Gold Expeditions, Model United Nations Conferences, sports tours and ski trips are important elements, but so too are the regular theatre, gallery and business visits, and all will be complemented by new opportunities such as Personal Finance and Employment Lectures.
Uniquely, all Lower Sixth participate in our Sixth Form Residential Trips, one of which takes place at an Outward Bound centre at the start of the Lower Sixth, and the other after end of year examinations are complete, seeing the whole year visit a foreign cultural and business capital.
With university entrance highly competitive, and
employment options limited, our students receive
ongoing high quality support and guidance from their
Personal Tutors.
University entrance is a key area of Sixth Form
life, and our experienced Sixth Form staff provide
full support in this vital area. All students receive
detailed and comprehensive guidance in making
applications, interview skills and the writing of
personal statements.
There are a number of visits to key universities,
including Sheffield, Leeds, York and Nottingham,
with special provision made for Oxbridge and other
Early Applicants, such as Veterinary, Dentistry and
Medicine. Students are given ample opportunity to
experience the exciting reality of undergraduate life.
