Things sure have gotten strange, huh?

Well, another month has gone by and we are striving to social distance and wondering if we will ever be able see other humans again. I have been spending too much time on-line looking at pretty things and trying to stay upbeat. Keepsake Quilting had a sale on Mystery Patterns. There were 20 patterns in the deal - well - I couldn’t help myself. I bought them. The patterns came yesterday, and it was wonderful. Just so you know, I don’t make the patterns, I just like to look at the pretty pictures.

However, I am working on baby quilts and finishing some UFO’s. I didn’t know that I had so many UFOs. Where did they all come from? Do they multiply after you put them in the back of the closet? How about all those kits? You know the ones I mean. You buy the pattern and fabric and keep them all together in a little plastic box. You open the little plastic box and go “What was I thinking when I bought that fabric!” We definitely need an Ugly Fabric Challenge.

I want to thank all of you in our quilting community for your continued support to provide for others. I am not sure we will ever really know how many face masks and head coverings have been made for hospital workers, helpers in nursing homes, family and friends. When there is a need you have always been there to provide help. I am humbled by the level of dedication shown by our members, and grateful to be Blessed to be a part of this incredible quilting family. I miss you all very much.

I started developing patterns and teaching from them in 1996. "Nicole's 9-Patch" is one of my newer ones; I developed it in 2014. One of my students gifted me the border fabric from a shop in Hawaii; the hand-dyed batiks in the 9-patches were a gift from a Secret Pal.

My daughter-in-law describes herself as being under "house arrest," because of long-standing health issues, and only goes out for regular doctor visits. She likes 30s reproductions; I made her masks from scraps from a wall hanging I gifted her at Christmas.

So far, I've made over 40 masks; I sewed masks until I exhausted my supplies of elastic and bias tape. Now that I've restocked the elastic, I will resume mask making.

I have been very busy making masks and scrub caps for BRMC, area nursing homes, Hospice House, Family and Friends. I am happy to do this for all of them. I am still wearing a mask in public.

My flowers are blooming so beautifully. The Hummingbirds are in seventh heaven with the flowers and the feeder that my husband keeps filled.

In July my daughters Grands and Greats will be coming for a visit. Our great-granddaughter, Mia will be staying for a month or so. Playtime at the lake and Sewing a project or two. I'm excited to see them.

I can't wait for Guild to start again. I've missed all your smiling faces.

Been sewing masks. It seems everyone wants one due to the fact that we need them now more than ever. Even saw a sign along Hwy 62 today that there is a need for the Caregivers to have masks. Been also sewing dog beds since I heard there was a need there too. So everyone should remember their 4 legged friends and make a dog bed. I guess masks aren’t needed for them… just beds… That’s it. I hope everyone is staying safe. Oh yes, I heard the swimming pool is going to open soon… with all the chlorine (bleach) and sunshine (if we ever see it) ought to be a great place to work off some extra baggage and get some fresh air…

A couple of years ago, we had a program on how to organize your scraps. I had a big mess with my scraps in bags and baskets all over the place, so I set out to organize. I cut strips of 2 1/2", 2", 1 1/2 ", and 1" strips based on the widest strip I could get from the scrap. I also made 10", 5", 2 1/2", and 2" squares. The narrow strips looked pretty in clear glass jars (until the room became crowded with jars!).

I am now thinking of ways to use these organized scraps. I have many ideas! Now that I have made my issue public, I will have to begin some projects. I would rather show what I have done than admit that these bits of fabric are still in my sewing room waiting to be used.

Steve has made around 300 masks, and I have made around 100. This is a picture of a few we gave a few weeks ago.

I continued to make and deliver medical face masks, but when we agreed to pause, I got back out to my garden and got to watch 3 baby birds launch their first flight. Part of my lifestyle means turning my compost each spring--last year’s poo becomes this year's plant nutrient gold. Peace in the woods for me.

Making lots of masks, hats and scrap quilt tops. Trying a lot of new recipes and watching lots of tv.

The bicyle collage is called "Blossoms and Spokes" by Cotton Street Commons.I began the bicycle collage during our retreat. I just couldn't get the flowers in the basket right. I even cut out new flowers in different colors after I came home. Alas, I was still not happy. Finally, I had my husband arrange the flowers and voila, the collage looked good.

Those of you who know me, I am more of a needle-worker than a quilter. I love the guild as I get to see color combinations that look wonderful. The quilts inspire me to stitch colorful and meaningful projects.

I have been a long-time member of the American Needlepoint Guild and the Embroiderers Guild of America. Over the years I have given talks on historical needlework with antique samplers and vintage magazines, including the local DAR chapter. As you can see, I love needlework!

Below is a Crazy Quilt designed by Carolyn Manning Designs. The designer provided four designs for each block. The stitcher decided which pattern to stitch without knowing what the next block would be. This project was a year-long with a block released each month. It is cross stitch with specialty stitches.

Below is a needlepoint stitch along by DebBee’s Designs. This project was using my threads from my stash. Debbie Rowley posted the free design on her blog over the past month. It was up to the stitcher to choose the colors and threads. It is needlepoint on 18 count canvas using a variety of stitches including layered stitches. Jane Cornue

I am attaching two pics of quilts I've been working. The Buzzz quilt is for my Grandson and Wife. They love bees and hoped it would cheer them up. I had to smile when working on it. I'm almost finished with the quilting, then to bind in yellow. The other pic is an early attempt at improvisational quilting. I'm tip toeing into it. Haven't figured out how to "dive" into it yet. Was signed up for a class at Paducah but........we all know how that went.

Have made masks for family and friends here and far away. I'm sooo impressed with the wonderful work some of the guild members have done. My hat is certainly off to each one of you!

And I'm so very blessed to have such a challenging and rewarding hobby to keep me busy. OH, but I do miss the friendships and inspiration by being away from our fellow quilters. Am so looking forward to being with everyone again. Whenever that might be.

I wish everyone a GOOD SEWING DAY. Stay safe and smile.

Life isn't about how to survive the storm but how to dance in the rain!

I continue to work on my super scrappy quilt. My hope was to put a significant dent in my scrap bin, and there seems to be less than when I started this project. But my goodness, I think there are at least two more quilts worth of leftover strips, squares and fabric crumbs that need my attention. As you can see from the photo, the side borders are next, and then I don’t know what I’ll be adding to increase the size of the quilt.

My flower beds are blooming nicely. There was a significant problem with my irises - leaves turning brown and spotty and the buds getting mushy before they bloomed. After some internet research and conversations with other flower gardeners, we determined they had a fungus, most likely caused by the amount of rain we have had - the beds were crowded and soil was never drying out. I worked several days trimming off infected leaves and doing some thinning of the beds. Finally, a dose of Neem oil to stop the fungus from progressing. Now I have to wait and see.

I spend significant time on the phone trying to help my aging father and mother. Dad is locked in his assisted living center but is allowed to go visit my Mom in Hospice once time per day. I can stay in touch with my Mom through FaceTime when my sister visits her. I don’t know when I’ll be able to travel to South Dakota to see them, but hopefully it will be sooner than later.

I miss my quilting friends and hope we can gather again soon. Take care and stay safe!

I have been keeping busy for sure. I have played in my flower beds, hubby and I planted a garden, and we have been building fences.

I finished piecing the top for my Gypsy Wife Quilt, just need to add the border and put on the longarm.

I have stayed busy quilting client quilts.

I quilt 2 community quilts for Hill N Hollow for free each month, then $10 each thereafter, up to a twin size. This is on a first come, first serve basis. I do track who brings in their quilts and when they were brought in. These are completed in between client quilts, so I cannot guarantee a quick turn-around. I have a roll of 60" wide batting donated by Carolyn Seigal for community quilts at the shop, so for now, all I need is the top and the backing. Please make sure the backing is an extra 4 inches on all sides.

Happy quilting my friends, Charity Beckley

Guild members and Bias Bunch members met for lunch several weeks ago at Fred’s Fish House. They brought their TV trays and social distanced. Fred’s delivered to their parking lot. Show and tell was terrific!!

During my house quarantine, I started and finished this quilt for my grandson in the Navy. He said his ship is cold, so I used fleece on the back. pic attached. I made it the size of his aircraft carrier “rack”.

Hi there fellow quilters. I have to say that other than sewing masks, I have been doing a lot more outdoor activities than sewing!! Have been kayaking a couple of times, once at Norfork Lake and once on the White River. Did a trail clean-up day at Blanchard Springs for the Master Naturalists. Went fishing a couple of times. Planted a garden of tomatoes, peppers, onions, radishes, and cucumbers. Walking every couple of days with neighbors, and finally raised 3 baby squirrels for approximately 3 weeks. That one kept us busy!! Take care everyone. Miss you all!

I’ve been pretty lazy the past couple of months. Take my car, Henry, for a spin now and then. (As I’m sure you all realize, we can’t just let them sit for long periods of time.) I really enjoy the scenery of the area. It’s very refreshing and uplifting to see all the greenery and flowers, the hills in the distance for miles and miles, etc. When driving around and seeing all that beauty, it’s hard to believe things are as they are.

My nasturtiums are planted and growing. The weeds and the maple tree seedlings were, too. The Care Center guys weeded the area two days ago and the weeds are already coming back like crazy! I still think I’ll have some beautiful flowers to look at, smell AND EAT.
