International Conference on “Capitalizing on Pakistan's Experience in Handling Disasters, Creating Synergies among Global Frameworks, Lessons Learnt and the Way Forward” was organized by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in Shamadan Hall, Serena Hotel, Islamabad from 20-21 June 2018 to devise pre-emptive strategies for disaster-risk reduction and ensure the safety of lives and properties. The Caretaker Interior Minister Azam Khan was the Chief Guest.
The Conference was followed by the sixth meeting of the regional technical group of Disaster Management Confidence Building Measures (DM-CBM) on 22 June 2018 under the aegis of Heart of Asia, Istanbul Process. Pakistan National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) co-hosted the conference along with Kyrgyzstan.
At the inaugural session the Caretaker Interior Minister Azam Khan said that a pre-emptive strategy for disaster risk reduction (DRR) was vital for safeguarding human lives and properties in the face of natural calamities. The Caretaker Interior Minister Azam Khan observed that the Asia-Pacific region in general and Pakistan, in particular, was prone to a multitude of disasters and therefore special measures were needed to handle these recurring disasters. He said that Pakistan had a vast and diverse experience in coping with disasters and added that other countries of the region could learn from Pakistan's expertise in this field.

2013. He further said that DRR
approach was imperative for building

development, especially for developing countries like Pakistan.
He underlined that Sendai Framework for DRR and Paris Climate Change Agreement provided a unique
opportunity to move towards the vision for “risk-sensitive development as a cornerstone for
sustainability”. Earlier, NDMA Member (DRR Wing) Idrees Mahsud gave an overview of the conference.The Conference was split into the sub-themes of “Pakistan's Experience in Managing Mega Disaster-
Lessons learnt”, and “Analyzing related Global Frameworks for resilience with the aim to create synergies
and strengthen risk governance”.

NATIONAL PRE MONSOON PREPAREDNESS CONFERENCE – 2018
NESPAK, SUPARCO, UNOCHA, Pakistan Red Crescent, Rescue 1122, Pakistan Boys Scouts Association, Pakistan Girls Guide Association and all other relevant Provincial & Federal Departments.Brigadier Mukhtar shared detailed contingency plan with the participants and reviewed the state of preparedness based on PMD's weather forecast for Monsoon Season-2018. He critically evaluated and identified the limitations and inadequacies and emphasized for a better response during upcoming Monsoon by all stakeholders.
Representatives of the entire provincial and regional disaster management shared the nature of hazard and vulnerabilities faced in their respective provinces/regions and state of their preparedness and preventive measures. They also shared details of available rescue equipment, rehabilitations and relief stock in their warehouses for the emergencies.
Federal Flood Commission presented the policy for dams' management and province wise vulnerable points which require special attention. National Highway Authority (NHA) shared progress on preparatory efforts undertaken for various national highways with focus on KKH, Gilgit-Skardu Road, Dir-Chitral Road, Rawalpindi-Murree-Muzaffarabad Road, Mansehra-Naran Road.
UNOCHA shared resource capacities of UN agencies across Pakistan coordination mechanism.
Addressing the participants of the conference, NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Omar Mahmood Hayat underlined the importance of understanding disaster management in global climate change perspective. He said that conventional disaster management practices were necessary but real challenge lay in social adaptation according to shifting weather patterns and coping with its impacts.Pakistan Boys Scouts Association was represented by Mr. Usman Pasha, Dy. You will receive both the Patrimonito Scout badge and Scouts of the World Award (SW Award) special edi on badge, if you complete a Scouts of the World Award Voluntary Service Project at one of the many UNESCO World Heritage Sites worldwide this Rovers Centenary!The Patrimonito Scout Badge is earned through the World Scou ng–UNESCO World Heritage Recogni on programme, which aims to promote World Heritage, educate young people, and call on them to take ac ons for sustainable development via the SW Award programme.
The SW Award special edi on badge, on the other hand, challenges young people to be ac ve ci zens in their local communi es by focusing on a specific goal or goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and including the number “100” in planning the SW Award Voluntary Service Project.

CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS OF ROVERING Special opportunity to earn two Badges by completing one project
In January 2016 Balochistan Boy Scouts Association took an initiative and start a vocational and training centre for the youth under the name “Skills Learning, Learning and Development Centre”. This training centre offered variety of technical courses such as Computer DIT, Beautician & Make up, Sewing & Tailoring and English language courses with an aim to help and technically train the youth of different backgrounds, and fully support them through this center. Also these sort of skilled trades were introduced for youth in order to promote and provide demand driven technical education & vocational training to make them self-sufficient with the skills and abilities needed to be self-employed by not depending on others. This kind of technical education not only benefit youth to be technically proficient but also helps to increase their knowledge towards particular trade to further play their important role by fulfilling the domestic needs of the local market.
To make its learning qualified this centre was also registered with “technical and Training Board, TTB” which is a body of labor and training department (Government of Balochistan). To fully attain the qualification students first have pass the Boy Scouts Exam and then they have again appear before the TTB exam board in order to have fully recognized degree. So far 263 students are studying out of which 131 recently passed their TTB (Technical Training Board) exams and are self-fulfilled to start their own work. On 29th April 2017 its annual certificate Distribution was organized at Provincial HQ (Quetta) having presence of our worthy Chief Commissioner Pakistan Boy Scouts Association Ms Rahila Hameed Durrani as Chief Guest. It was great moment of encouragement and motivation especially for the girls to collect the certificates and shield from the Chief Commissioner. Later she extend her full support for this centre and any other such initiative that will be taken either at provincial or national level.

Baden Powel called Rovering as “Brotherhood of Open Air and Service”. This concept leads Punjab Boy Scouts Association to organize Summer Hike for the first time to commemorate the Centenary Year of Rover Scouting under the theme of “Passion for Adventure”. Hike was organized from 21 to 27 June. The route of st th
the hike was from Kaghan to Ansoo Lake. Senior staff member Punjab BSA Mr. Adil Farooq was the Hike Leader. More than 50 Rover Scouts and scout leaders participated in this hike. Opening Ceremony of the hike was held at National Scout Headquarters, PBSA on 21 June. Mr. ZahidMahboob (Secretary PBSA), Mr. Muhammad Traiq st
Qureshi (Secretary Punjab BSA) and other senior scout leaders were present on the occasion. They addressed the hikers and said them good bye with prayers and best wishes.The hikers covered all hike points as per schedule and stayed at Kaghan, Naran and Lake Saif-ul-Malook. The climax of the hike was to visit AnsooLake. Although the unfavorable weather and tough terrain discouraged the hikers to conquer the destination but with high scout spirit and laborious effort, some of the hikers succeeded to reach the destination.

After completing the task, hikers reached National Headquarters, PBSA
on 27 June, 2018. Closing Ceremony was held on the same day in the th
afternoon. Mr. ZahidMahboob, Secretary PBSA, Muhammad Tariq
Qureshi Secretary Punjab BSA, NHQ officials and staff participated in
the ceremony. Mr. Adil Farooq, Hike leader presented hike report. Mr.
ZahidMahboob and Mr. Tariq Qureshi addressed the audience. They
congratulated hikers for successful completion of the activity and
appreciated the team and organizers for their support and involvement
to make this event a success. At the end of the ceremony, souvenirs
were distributed to the participants, organizing team and the guests.

Shaheen Leader Training Course for Female was held at Gulistan-e-Scout Training Centre, Karachi from 25th June, 2018 to 01st July, 2018. In which a number of female participated and learnt Scouting skills from Veteran Scout Leaders.
Tree Plantation
A tree plantation was arranged at Gulistan-e-Scout Training Centre, Karachi. The Participants & the Training Team of Shaheen Scout Leaders Course took part in Tree Plantation. Syed Akhter Meer, Provincial Secretary, Sindh BSA was also planted a tree / sapling.

SCOUTING ACTIVITIES AT SINDH BSA
Quran was revealed in the month of Ramadan. Muslims all over the world arrange special activities to comprehend and recite Quran. Every Muslim tries to complete at least once the recitation of whole Quran. Keeping in view the connection of Quran with Ramadan, Pakistan Boy Scouts Association organized Quran Khawani at national Headquarters on 11th June, 2018. Special prays were offered for the country, people and especially for scouting, PBSA and its employees.
Zubair-ul-Farooq Lodhi, member National Council PBSA and former Commissioner Special Initiatives offered special Iftar Pack to all employees of PBSA.
Khatm-e-Quran/ Traweeh Prayer
Namaz-e-Traweeh is a source of complete Quran recitation and hearing. Special arrangements are made to arrange Taraweeh Prayer at National Headquarters, PBSA every year during the month of Ramadan. This year young Hafiz Umar Farooq lead the Taraweeh Prayer and Khatam-e-Quran Ceremony was held on 9th June, 2018. Qari Abdul Quddus, a renowned religious leader delivered a sermon on the occasion and Special Dua was offered at the end of the ceremony. Sweets were also served after the prayer.

Death is the greatest fact and every soul will taste death.
Some deaths make every alive saddened. The sudden
death of Syed Khalid Shah, Commissioner Growth of
Scouting, Sindh BSA and president Private Institutions has
filled eyes of every concerned with tears, made every
heart gloomy and snatched the pleasure of Eid. He faced a
fatal road accident near Bakkar while travelling from
Karachi to Islamabad. His funeral prayer was offered at
Karachi on 18 June. A great number of dignitaries from different walks of life, th
educationists, representatives of private schools associations and scout officials
offered funeral prayer.
Sindh BSA held a special Condolence Reference at Provincial Scout Headquarters. A
great number of scouts, scout leaders and officials participated in this memorial
service. Fateha was offered and Quran Khawani was held for the departed soul.
Addressing on the occasion,dignitaries expressed their sorrow and highlighted his
contribution for the growth of scouting in Sindh BSA especially in Private Educational
Institutions of Karachi. Pak Scout expresses deep sorrow and pray for the departed soul for the grant of high
ranks, share grieves of the family and all concerned and prays for the fast recovery of
the wounded.
