1 Baltimore Watercolor Society: A Mid-Atlantic Organization of Watermedia Artists September 2014 Hello everyone! I have been looking over the documents this summer that Chris gave me from her time as president. There were quite a few because Chris has been the president of our wonderful organization since 2008. That’s six years of service to BWS. All of us are grateful for everything she has done. From coordinating the efforts of twenty one board members, to fielding never-ending emails from both in- side and outside the organization, to writing her personal, informational, inspiring, sometimes humor- ous and always interesting column on this page every month, Chris has led the BWS with wisdom, good judgment and utmost professionalism, and we all thank her from the bottom of our hearts. I have served on the board since 2007, first as Mid-Atlantic Awards chair then as the Jurying Chair. During that time, I have met the most friendly, welcoming group of people on the board. I have also had the opportunity to meet many wonderful BWS members, friends and families at our events. I never intended in 2007 that I would be president in a few years and I didn’t intend it last year either, but I am always up for a new challenge. One thing that will help make the job doable is the fact that we have a highly capable board in place and I know I will be able to count on them for steadfast support. I have worked with many board members through these years and found them all dedicated to encouraging watercolor art for all BWS members and all watercolor lovers in the Mid-Atlantic region. With Chris serving as Vice-President and also as my good friend we will be a strong leadership team. She will be close by for me to lean on her experience. If getting more involved in the organization and working with this wonderful board is appealing, there is currently an opening on the board for chair of short programs. So if you have an interest in joining the board, please let me know - there is no experience required. We offer on the job training! The board is gearing up after the summer break with plans for lots of activities. The current event is the show at Brookside Gar- dens. It is a beautiful show, so if you haven’t been to see it yet, don’t miss it. It will be open until September 21. Summer is coming to a close soon, but not painting, so gather up those summer pictures you have taken this year and take more ‘while the livin’ is easy’ and the weather is warm. You can pull them out when the cold wind blows this winter and bring them to life in gorgeous paintings. Keep painting! Baltimore Watercolor Society: A Mid-Atlantic Organization of Watermedia Artists September 2014

Hello everyone!

I have been looking over the documents this summer that Chris gave me from her time as president. There were quite a few because Chris has been the president of our wonderful organization since 2008. That’s six years of service to BWS. All of us are grateful for everything she has done. From coordinating the efforts of twenty one board members, to fielding never-ending emails from both in-side and outside the organization, to writing her personal, informational, inspiring, sometimes humor-ous and always interesting column on this page every month, Chris has led the BWS with wisdom, good judgment and utmost professionalism, and we all thank her from the bottom of our hearts.

I have served on the board since 2007, first as Mid-Atlantic Awards chair then as the Jurying Chair. During that time, I have met the most friendly, welcoming group of people on the board. I have also had the opportunity to meet many wonderful BWS members, friends and families at our events. Brookside Gardens Exhibit“I always feel honored to be asked to judge the work of my fel-low artists. When evaluating a show where the skill of the artists is evident in every painting I look for the ones that draw me in. After keeping in mind exciting design, paint quality, and strong values, I chose to award the ones that reveal the artists’ passion and imagina-tion. I hope many people will get the chance to appreciate this gor-geous show in the lovely setting of Brookside Gardens.”Susan Herron, Juror

Healing Through the ArtsA group of volunteers hosts healing events throughout the year for cancer patients at St. Agnes. In the past, they have hosted a water-color event. The instructor guided patients through healing thoughts and helped them express their thoughts and feelings using watercolors. Their previous instructor is unavailable. They are reaching out through BWS for another artist who may be able to help them with this event. Please contact Jennifer Broaddus at [email protected].
