Dear beloved church family,

We are in the heart of summertime here in Spokane! The days are heating up and vacations are a must as we join together as family and friends. So far much of our church family has gone on different adventures throughout the country and abroad. It is such a blessing to be with loved ones and enjoying each other’s com-pany. Thank God for the ability to explore new places and to go sightseeing. It is so refreshing to spend time outside in the great outdoors.

Our church has been very busy lately with serving our loved ones who have died. Ayako Tanaka and her tremendous leadership has been unwavering throughout this season. I cannot thank her enough for the amazing support she is to our church and me! She, along with all of the hardworking ladies of our church, has worked tirelessly preparing delicious refreshments for each family. Each memorial service is strengthened by the food so lovingly prepared. Without them, we would not be able to function as a church! Their dedication and hard work is a testament to a faith lived out in love for God and neighbor.

In the midst of celebrating the lives of those whom our church has grown up with, a few questions come to mind. What is the dream of our church? How do we hope to achieve our dream to glorify God? The memorial services are a wake up call for us as we strive to be faithful in this time. God has already stirred up ideas for a few members who would like to reach out to the community around our church. As pastor, my hope continues to be a revival of our church in deepening faith, numerical growth, and greater love for our community. How-ever, my energy is finite and I am not too proud to say I need your help. If God has placed a burning desire in your heart to serve please let your pastor know. There is nothing stopping us from achieving our dreams for the glory of God.

Kazuko Honda was born on April 6, 1915 to Wahei and Shizuko Okamoto. The family left to go to Japan and Korea for 4 years. They then returned to Spokane where she graduated from Lewis and Clark and then from Kinman Business College . On November 7, 1937 she married George Honda and had five children, Gary, Alan, Carole, Ron and Toni. They had 14 chil-dren and 26 grandchildren. Kazuko worked for the Spoka in the Public Works ne City HallEngineering Department and was active in the Monday Musicale organi-zation, Spokane College Womens Club and volunteered at Deaconness Hospital. In lieu of flowers, the Honda family suggests donations to Highland Park United Meth-odist church where she was a dedicated member and vocalist.

Yoshio “Fred” Maruyama was born in Medford, Or on July 6. He attended Lin-field College on a tennis scholarship. Dur-ing WWII he and his family were interned at Tule Lake and later at Minidoka. Yosh later joined the 442nd won the Victory Medal

After dis-charge he moved to Spokane and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Secretarial Science. He stayed at home to care for his mother and sister.

Masako Nishimura passed away peace-fully in her sleep at age 93. She was born on July 4,1922 and grew up in Wapato. Af-ter being interned at Heart Mountain where she married Roy Nishimura they moved to Spokane and raised 3 sons, Robert, Freder-ick and Thomas. Maggie worked for the Crescent and District 81 audio visual aids department.

Lily Shiosaki was born on Nov 1, 1927 and passed away on July 4. She was a resident of Seattle at her passing . She graduated at the top of her class then attended Kelsey Baird Businee School. She was married to Fred Schiosa-ki.

Tom Kagi was born on April 13,1929 and passed away on April 22, 2016. He was a talented multifaceted individual. Successful me-chanic, stock car builder, driver, businessman, firearms expert, police reservist, depu-ty sheriff, sales mamager, engineer and inventor. Born during the Great Depression he rose through his own ef-forts to be successful in life. He was proud of his inven-tion, the mutli-fuel Kagi burner. He played the organ, piano and trumpet and had a beautiful singing voice. He enjoyed good food, pretty women, model airplances, collecting stamps and coins.

On June 1, changes will be made. It has been decided that only cookies and sugar free items will be served during fellowship time. Also, once a month special treats will be served by the toban teams whose time falls clos-est to the following legal holidays: June 19 (Fathers Day), July 4 (Fourth of July), Sept 5 (Labor Day), Oct 31 (Halloween) Nov 24 (Thanksgiving), Dec 11(Christmas Program) .

Minutes of April 21, 2016 , corrections were made and accept-ed.

TREASURE’S REPORT: Given by Kathy Bott

TRUSTEE’S REPORT: Wayne McDowell has offered his ser-vices replace the parish back door, also to check out the garage door to see if it can be repaired.

Kathy Bott is checking into the cost of replacing the lighting fix-tures and blinds for the church.

We still have to paint the parsonage and the outside refrigera-tor.

The Sukiyaki dinner was a success. Changes were made in the take out area which was for the better as it much smoother and quicker for their pick up.

Senbei making will on September 23rd and 24th , 2016, Ayako Tanaka and Alice Tanaka has once again graciously accepted to chair this function. Starting time will be 7:00AM

Fall Bazaar will be October 8, 2016.

We are having inquires regarding use of our hall including the stage area. Any inquires will be taken care of by our Coordinator, Patty Marinos.

Georgette Rogers stated we will begin cleaning the stage area on July 2 &9, 2016. If anyone has items on the stage they wish to keep please get it before July as most of the items that are not in use will be removed.

Please excuse my belated thank you to all of you who helped with the April Sukiyaki Dinner. The many volun-teers who helped prepare, cook and serve our wonderful meal plus delicious inarisushi, the donors who generous-ly donated the provisions we needed plus the monetary gifts to purchase items, the crafty talented people who made our “store” unique and all the hands that labored to make, bake and package our delicious senbei. Without all your dedication and help, we would not be able to continue this labor of love for our church and community.
