Slide 2 Higher Question Paper Slide 3 Higher Question Paper Paper 1 Reading for Understanding, Analysis and Evaluation (1 hour) Paper 2 Critical Reading (1 hour 30 mins) Applying reading skills in understanding, analysis and evaluation to one unseen non-fiction text. Assessment involves learners answering questions to show their understanding of a writers main ideas and use of language. A variety of reading skills are required, including, for example, inference making, close analysis of language, and summarising. Candidates answer approximately 9 questions. 30 marks Part 1 Scottish Text Applying understanding, analysis and evaluation skills to previously studied Scottish texts from the specified list. Candidates are required to respond to extracts from the set texts, and to make comparisons with other texts from the list. 20 marks. Part 2 Critical Essay Candidates are required to write one critical essay, applying understanding, analysis and evaluation skills to previously studied texts from the following contexts: drama, prose, poetry, film and TV, or language. Candidates must select a question from a different genre to their Textual Analysis text. Candidates select from 2 questions per section. 20 marks.
