Welcome. We are one of the youngest universities in the UK but we are already leading the way in adding value to society, which we call social impact We have won multiple awards for our work in this area, among others, but what matters the most to us is ensuring that our students and graduates have the opportunity to make their mark on the world too That’s why we were the first university in the UK to be named as a Changemaker Campus in 2012 by Ashoka U

We want to break the mould of what Higher Education can be This led us to build a whole new University from the ground up that is designed to reflect the way that our students actually learn rather than the way they are expected to learn.

Our commitment to transforming lives and inspiring change is at the heart of all that we do We want to ensure that students’ experience of studying with us enables them to transform their life and those of others too, no matter how great or small this may be

These approaches align perfectly with Apprenticeship methodology, enabling teaching through student-centred activities that support the development of subject knowledge and understanding, independent learning, and digital fluency.

Our face-to-face teaching is facilitated in a practical and collaborative manner, linked to learning activity outside the classroom Opportunities are provided for students to develop autonomy, Changemaker attributes and employability skills

Introduction.Higher and Degree apprenticeships are designed by industry to bring together higher and vocational education. They assist in developing academic learning, as well as wider skills and ability to do a job. Staff retention and skills shortages are consistently cited as the biggest risks to UK businesses Apprenticeships provide a solution to businesses across all industries by offering a cost-effective route to attract fresh talent and to invest in workforce development. If you have trained staff with the right skills for the job, they can do a wider range of tasks and take on new responsibilities – this can help to reduce skill shortages, minimise staff turnover, improve your customer experience and increase productivity.

Benefits to your organisation.Employers of all sizes from any sector can access apprenticeships and they are a proven way to train your workforce whilst making your organisation more productive and competitive. There are many benefits of apprenticeships for employers, including the following

Attract fresh talent – attract talented and enthusiastic individuals to your business

Reduce skill shortages - fill skill gaps by providing apprentices with relevant skills your business needs

Minimise staff turnover - investing in staff development leading to improved staff loyalty and increase in staff retention

Improve customer experience - motivaed and loyal staff are more enagaged with the business and its customers

Increase productivity - developing the knowledge, skills, and confidence to help achieve business objectives and thus making the workplace more productive

Apprenticeship Levy.On April 2017, the UK government introduced an Apprenticeship Levy with the aim of funding apprenticeships This means that all employers with annual salary costs of more than £3 million are required to put 05% of their payroll into the Levy

Employers paying the Levy are able to access their funding through the digital apprenticeship service to pay the provider of their choice. Funds will expire 24 months after they enter your apprenticeship service account unless you spend them on apprenticeship training with a training provider, such as the University of Northampton

Employers that don’t pay the Levy.Small businesses with a pay bill of less than £3 million will have 95% of the training fees for apprentices paid on their behalf by government funding The government will ask you to make a 5% contribution to the cost of this training and government will pay the rest, up to the maximum amount of government funding available for that apprenticeship As both you and the government make a payment, this is called ‘co-investment’

We can help you .We can help you to maximise the benefits of Higher and Degree apprenticeships in your organisation and ensure you are putting your Levy funds to the best use possible We can also help you to get the most out of apprenticeship programmes and to improve performance and results in your organisation So why not get in touch with the Apprenticeship Team at the University of Northampton by emailing us on: [email protected] for an unbiased consultation

Existing employees

and new apprenticeships

Our Higher and Degree apprenticeships are not simply your usual higher educational programme, they are created with your business in mind! They have been carefully designed in collaboration with employers to help you not only attract new talent but to also develop your existing workforce, thus enabling you to improve overall performance and productivity and fill any higher-level skill gaps. We work with you to ensure the most suitable apprenticeship standards are selected and that the training and skills offered best meet the needs of both the employer and employee (the apprentice), no matter what experience they may have.

Developing new apprenticeships

Employers are now at the forefront of the development of apprenticeships and learning; creating people with workplace skills that are relevant to business and industry Professional bodies are involved to help ensure routes to professional registration in occupations where these are available and can be involved in the development of the standard Training providers are involved so they can contribute ideas from a delivery perspective and also to ensure that they are ready to deliver the new apprenticeship standards All standards delivered by the University of Northampton adhere to these standards ensuring our apprenticeships receive business relevant skills and qualifications. We will assist you in the identification and development of your own apprenticeship programmes to give your business the best possible access to local talent and skills

Apprenticeship advice and guidance

We have a dedicated Apprenticeship Team who can provide advice and guidance on any apprenticeship queries you may have ranging from funding to what programmes we offer. Simply email us on [email protected] and we will be happy to help you

Page 7: Higher and Degree Apprenticeships · Introduction. Higher and Degree apprenticeships are designed by industry to bring together higher and vocational education. They assist in developing

Our programmes. We currently offer the following apprenticeship programmes. We are always developing new offerings to respond to market changes and business requirements. If you are unable to find something suitable on the list below, please feel free to get in touch with us

Please notePlease note that due to government funding regulations, all our apprenticeship programmes are currently only available to Levy paying organisations We do not have a contract to be able to deliver apprenticeships to non-levy paying organisations

Therefore, we can only offer apprenticeships via an employer as we are unable to offer them as direct entry to individuals. Should an individual be interested we require them to speak to their employer first – typically a line manager or the HR/ Learning Development Team (or similar) and get them to make contact with us This ensures they are fully supported and have Levy funds available

DisclaimerPlease note that the funding shown for the apprenticeship programmes in this publication are set by the Government and are correct at the time of the printing of this publication (December 2019) For information on up-to-date funding, please refer to the UK Government website and the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education website
