Efficient Planning - How to Replace Inventory with Data

One of the most common, and costly problems to manage in supply chains stem from E&O inventory and its impact to the bottom line. Through this presentation we will explore ways in which the IT industry is replacing physical inventory with data and how Google is applying some of these principles today.

Demand Modelling and Capacity Planning in the World of Storage Intensive Services Hadoop, Instagram & Facebook Videos and Photos

Whether it’s a social network, search engine or e-commerce application, every web scale network faces tremendous challenges in managing the explosion of big data. Mobile devices have created unique opportunities for new applications as well as new challenges to manage their demand. This talk hopes to give some insights into how we use a combination of forecasting models, machine learning & predictive behaviors to plan for ever growing demands for user driven services like Facebook photos & videos, Instagram and internal data stores like Hadoop. The talk will focus on our techniques and solutions we have built for minimizing storage costs while not sacrif ic ing latency and user satisfaction.

Smarter, Faster S&OP

There has been growing consensus that sales and operations planning (S&OP) is a critical business process. In fact supply chain research would confirm that S&OP is the single biggest opportunity for improvement for supply chain planning. Yet, many companies fall short of the expectations S&OP touts. The year ahead promises a new set of challenges that could further impede S&OP value. Let’s examine some global trends and recurring challenges that delay, or worse, distort the output of S&OP. What are companies doing to run smarter, faster S&OP cycles? The critical importance of quality forecast – and leveraging predictive analytics to get there. How you can ec l ipse compet i t ion by tweaking your process? Finally we will consider a Celestica case study that demonstrates the impact smarter, faster S&OP has had to a global telecom company.

Workshop: Managing Supply & Demand in a Highly Volatile Environment

Jennifer Hochstatter, Sr. Director of Manufacturing and Demand Planning at JAWBONE in partnership with Kinaxis, will discuss managing supply and demand in a highly volatile environment where new competitors are constantly entering the market and all players are regularly changing the field and the rules. Evolving S&OP for Strategic In/Out-Source Manufacturing Decisions

Intel’s silicon business is unique due to technology leadership and size of capital investment for in-house manufacturing. Most companies and industries have some mix of outsource manufacturing and in-house (vertical integration) for growth, increased speed and supply assurance/responsiveness; Intel is no exception. The resulting problems are the same: how to efficiently bring more modular/platform pieces together for greater valued integration and do it faster? This makes connecting the S&OP process to profit and revenue decisions more challenging, and even more critical.

Joan TafoyaDirector, Supply Chain Operations Intel

Joan Tafoya, has 24 years of experience in the semiconductor field. Her experience includes both engineering and manufacturing roles throughout Intel’s supply chain: technology development, wafer fab and package assembly & test. Additionally, Joan has completed multi-year assignments in Shanghai, China; Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and Penang, Malaysia. As Director of Supply Planning, she leads a worldwide team responsible for all aspects of Intel’s supply planning across a complex global network of Intel’s internal fab and assembly test factories and external foundry, OSAT and ODM supply base.

Improve your Forecast Accuracy Now

One of my favorite postulates in forecasting states “there is no need to forecast when a solution of a problem can be calculated”. However, in demand planning we should not take a pragmatic approach trying to solve everything by asking a super computer. Data mining companies also love the opportunity to step in and sell that “100+ optimized algorithm that will solve your business planning problems”. There is a portion of the future that we can infer by applying the right algorithm, and there is another portion that will require some magic. But if the magic does not happen to be in the data crunching step, then where is it?

Supply Chain, Customer Engagement & Growth

Supply Chain is rarely credited with Customer engagement and even rarely with growth hacking. In this presentation, the speaker explores customer relationship management being a part of supply chain. The presentation also presents opportunities for growth hacking, all operating as a part of supply chain.
