There is a growing belief with operators that business Internet services faster than 10 Mbps can only be delivered over fiber links. Think again. About the AK624RU With the Positron Access Solutions AK624RU, operators can rely on a carrier grade Ethernet Access Device (EAD). Its state of the art fiber and multi-pair bonded VDSL2 offer comprehensive MEF Carrier Ethernet 2.0 (CE 2.0) capabilities. Enforcing SLAs and offering value-added services such as Quality of Service (QoS) and traffic shaping is a snap. This universal fiber and multi-pair VDSL2 EAD is simply the best answer to deploying business services under a unified device and network management/provisioning platform.

Flexible Delivery of Reliable Business Services

Optimal Support for Multiple Services

Service Continuity

Operators shall be presented with the choice to make use of the technology that best fits the available access network infrastructure whether copper or fiber. This is where the FlexStream AK624RU comes in. With its dual support for multi-pair VDSL2/ADSL2+ copper loops and for fiber links, this state-of-the-art EAD delivers high bandwidth Ethernet connectivity with predictable performance, jitter and latency.

Using Fiber or Bonded VDSL2: it’s all About Maximizing the Available Infrastructure

Fixed-line operators are increasingly deploying VDSL2-capable DSLAM and MSAN with support for 4 to 8 pair bonding. Looking at the chart below, it is now possible to deliver 800 Mbps downstream (and 400 Mbps upstream) to sites located at 500 meters (1,500 feet) when bonding 8 copper pairs. Using the same approach yields 400 Mbps downstream (and 75 Mbps upstream) at a distance of 1 kilometer (3,300 feet). This level of performance is an order or magnitude higher than what is achievable using older technologies such as SHDSL and clearly shows that the existing copper infrastructure is a solid alternative and complement to using fiber links.

Delivering the Best Possible Quality for Each Service

More and more, small and medium businesses rely on Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and cloud-based services for multiple services, including jitter and latency sensitive services such as Voice over IP and video conferencing. The AK624RU incorporates a state-of-the-art Ethernet Switch core with full support for VLAN-based services. As shown in the diagram below, the AK624RU operates simultaneously at layer-2 and layer-3 to handle various services.

Increasingly, businesses of all sizes require guarantees that their voice, video conferencing and data services are up to par. Additionally, mobile operators are looking at operating and managing Wi-Fi and 4G/LTE services from the business premises in order to complement their macro cellular coverage. The AK624RU is the ideal platform to simultaneously support these services. Operators can leverage policy-based QoS and bandwidth allocation capabilities to ensure optimal use of the available bandwidth for the subscribed services at all times.

Key BenefitsWith the FlexStream AK624RU, operators can cost effectively deliver carrier-grade Business Ethernet services in compliance with the Metro Ethernet Forum service definitions over the optimal access network. Whether relying on multi-pair VDSL2 bonded copper or on fiber, the AK624RU EAD offers uncompromised performance, QoS and Management.

In addition to delivering reliable business services, the AK624RU is designed to:

• Deliver reliable and predictable Ethernet services: with its dual support for fiber and multi-pair bonded VDSL2. Fixed line operators now have access to solid and complementary Business Ethernet delivery technologies from a single unified EAD platform

• Afford the right bandwidth and performance for each service: business of all sizes increasingly use delay and jitter sensitive applications and services. With the AK624RU, each service receives the bandwidth it requires under QoS policies and SLA agreements to deliver the best possible quality of experience to your business subscribers

• Ensure a continuity of service: when configured with fiber and multiple VDSL2 copper pairs, the AK624RU offers a fast and seamless recovery of services over the operator fixed access network. Should the fiber link become unresponsive, the AK624RU will revert to the multi-pair VDSL2 copper loop and ensure that all subscriber services are maintained and SLAs are met

Looking at the diagram above, the AK624RU identifies and handles each service in terms of the associated class of service and under a globally managed policy-based framework for more efficiency. When simultaneously connected to the operator network over fiber and bonded copper, the AK624RU offers a fully redundant and resilient Ethernet connectivity to maintain service continuity under all circumstances.

The FlexStream AK624RU in Action

The FlexStream AK624RU EAD complies with international Ethernet and VDSL2 standards. In order to consistently deliver the best possible performance over the bonded VDSL2 pairs, the AK624RU fully supports Vectoring and Impulse Noise Protection.

With the AK624RU, access networks can be designed with the goal of leveraging the available infrastructure whether copper or fiber. This flexibility further allows fixed line operators a smooth and seamless migration to fiber from multi-pair VDSL2 without impacting services delivered to business subscribers.
