HOW WILL OUR CLASS WORK:

• Planner (We will write in the planner daily)

• Objectives (You are expected to read the objective daily and we will start our agenda with this)

• Do Now & Warm Ups (Do Now on calendar, sometimes additional warm-ups)

• Instructions (agenda posted in detail)

• Partners Shoulder, random and formal

• Where to find stuff (grades, missing work calendar and bin)

• Informal Assessments

• Exit Slips

PLANNER

Everyday students will be required to ….

• have their planners everyday.

• write down whatever is in the “planner” section of the board.

• do this after the “Do Now” during the timer period

• have teacher check planner before they can put it away.

OBJECTIVE (CLO)

What is an objective?

• It is the goal for the day (or couple of days)

• For example todays objective is…“SWBAT (students will be able to) demonstrate an understanding of the course, school expectations and norms, both verbally and in writing.”

So what are we learning?

DO NOW & WARM UP

• Do Now’s are to be done immediately as class begins.

• Students will receive a Do Now calendar every month that helps you review important terms or knowledge for the semester.

• Students will have 3 min on a timer to silently complete the Do Now question for that day only, turn it calendar side up on your desk and finish writing in your planner . I will come around at the end of the timer to stamp calendars and check planners.

• Students need to be responsible by keeping track of their Do Now calendar for the entire month.

INSTRUCTIONS• Listen to all instructions before you start moving or

talking. Students will also be asked to review instructions before movement takes place.Example:• When I say “go,” you will…• Do NOT start until I say “go”

• Three parts to all directions• What you are physically doing• What you are mentally doing• What you are verbally doing

PARTNERS

Three main types• Shoulder, random and formal

Shoulder partners• Quickly turn to someone within one desk of you and partner up. You need to make eye

contact with the person and turn your body to show you are ready to work with them.

Random

• I will use decks of cards to shuffle and randomly place partners and groups together. This will happen several times a week. Random partners may last for 5 min or for the rest of class.

Formal• You will be put into groups with people from around the room.• This will require you to get up and move yourself as well as the desks.• This should be done quickly.• Example: Counting off and getting into Pods.

ENTERING AND EXITING THE ROOM

• Students will enter the room aware of others and my belongings…backpacks, water bottles, materials etc. will be out everyday from other students or myself so show respect for others by being aware and careful.

• Students will enter the front door and exit through the back door…that way back to back classes don’t need to wait in the hall before coming in.

• We have a wonderful custodial staff…but they are not your maids and neither am I. The room must be clean before we leave. You are responsible for your work space and floor beneath it.

• I will dismiss you…not the bell! Being seated, face forward and quiet is the key to getting out the door on time.
