General Process for Course Proposals
● Proposals for new course and modification to existing courses to be considered must first be made through the sponsoring academic department with unanimous approval by the sponsoring department chairs of that department at all three schools
● All requests must be presented to each high school’s Instructional Leadership Team for discussion
● The merit of the course, number of students impacted, and outcomes of the course in relationship to student achievement and district goals must be discussed

Why Certification Course?
● Changing demands of the future workforce
● 36% of US workers are in the gig economy (57 million)
● 40% of companies expect gig workers will become an increasing part of their workforce
● Students will need to continue upskilling to keep up the changing demands of the workforce

Why Cybersecurity?● Cyber attacks are becoming more common and harmful
● Information Security is projected to grow by 32%
● Prediction that 3.5 million cybersecurity jobs will be unfilled by 2021
● Cybersecurity unemployment rate in 2016 was 0%
● Job postings are up 74% in the past five years

Why PLTW Aerospace?● Aerospace engineering transforms the dream of flight into
vehicles that ignite our imagination
● Students explore fundamentals of flight in air and space through software simulations and hands-on experiences
● Students learn how these concepts apply to a career in aerospace engineering and to other engineering fields
● Students interested in a career in the aeronautical field do not have a class offered in high school that teaches the concepts and skills directly related to the field

Why Music Production I/II ?
● Provide a meaningful non-performance music option for all students regardless of prior musical experience grades 9 through 12
● Provide students the necessary basic skill set required for post-secondary music technology study and careers

Music Production I/II Details
● The course will be Chromebook-based and include study of rhythm, melody, harmony, songwriting and digital music production using Soundtrap, a digital audio workstation

● Cost○ Soundtrap EDU student accounts - total cost $1,303 annually○ USB input devices - total cost not to exceed $11,250
Why Athletic Training?
• Athletic Training will be a course offered as an option within the grade 11 and 12 physical education curriculum
• This course will provide an opportunity for students to explore the necessary skills needed in a career focused on sports medicine

Athletic Training Details
● Students will study injury prevention and recognition, emergency care, rehabilitation, training facility management and administration, and legal aspects of athletic training
● Cost will include digital curriculum resources and curriculum development

Why Botany?● This course can deliver hands-on, experiential learning for
students curious about the natural world
● Current courses have curricular components that only scratch the surface of botany and horticulture
● Botany would provide an opportunity to actively engage in bringing these concepts to real-world applications
● This course could be a capstone, a keystone or a stepping stone for a diverse range of learners

● This course would be a Lab Science that would modernize the previous Horticulture class offering while more deeply exploring the aspects of Life Science as described in the Next Generation Science Standards
● This class is replacing Horticulture and will have minimal additional new expenses

Why American Sign Language 4?● American Sign Language 4 will build on interpretive,
interpersonal and presentational communication skills; focusing on the implementation of higher-level vocabulary and grammatical structures. Students will focus on the production of multiple forms of communication and storytelling.

● Current Enrollment in American Sign Languageo ASL 1 – 255o ASL 2 – 205o ASL 3 – 66
● Program enrollment has increased from 370 to 562 over the past 3 years
● A level 4 capstone course would put this language on par with our other World Language offerings
● The materials for this course will cost approximately $10,000

•Request approval from Board at October 21 meeting
• If approved, teams will develop the curriculum to bring to the BOE for approval
•Curation of resources and instructional tools to support teachers and students (may require BOE approval)
