High Risk Emergency Medicine Hawaii is a coursedesigned to address those topics that, due to therisk of misdiagnosis or misadventure, produce thegreatest anxiety and concern in the daily practice ofemergency medicine. Offered by the Department ofEmergency Medicine at the University of California,San Francisco, nationally renowned for emergencymedical and trauma care, this conference will meetthe needs of the practitioner who encounters a highrisk condition in their daily medical practice. Thisincludes practicing emergency physicians as well as internists, family practitioners, and others whopractice in an urgent care, high risk, or emergencydepartment setting.

OBJECTIVESThe objectives of this conference are to improvecompetence in diagnosis, treatment, performance ofprocedures, and patient counseling for neurologic,oncologic, traumatic, cardiovascular, infectious,pediatric, respiratory, and toxicologic emergencies.

ACCREDITATION The University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine(UCSF) is accredited by theAccreditation Council for ContinuingMedical Education to providecontinuing medical education forphysicians.UCSF designates this live activity for a maximum of 27.25 AMA PRACategory 1 CreditsTM. Physiciansshould claim only the creditcommensurate with the extent oftheir participation in the activity.• The General Session offers 21.25AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.

February 16, 2019Pre-conference Pediatric Emergencies Bootcamp

For the first time this year, we will be offering a one-daycourse focusing specifically on high-risk pediatricemergency medicine (PEM). The morning session willinclude presentations on several anxiety-provoking topics,with each presentation to be followed by small group casediscussions led by our PEM experts. The afternoon willconsist of workshops whereby participants will rotatethrough 8 hands-on stations focused on pediatric airway,access, and other procedures. Here, participants will beable to practice managing difficult airways, placing pigtailcatheters, obtaining ultrasound-guided intravenous accesson infants and children, and performing procedures inspecial pediatric populations, such as replacinggastrostomy buttons and managing tracheostomies.
