General Description

This vessel was purchased from the Award winning Yard of Cheoy Lee in Hong Kong as a custom package including completed exteriorGRP hull, decks and superstructure. With the engines in position it was then shipped to New Zealand and completely fitted out to a luxurystandard with no expense spared. She was launched as a new boat in 2005. The well respected Cheoy Lee Shipyards have built over 5,000 vessels and currently build from 40’ to over 200’ including Bravo, Globaland Serenity Series yachts each designed to the customer's individual needs and requirements. With her 17m LOA and five-metre beam, Stella Maris is a big boat. Her design was modeled on the traditional North Sea trawler yacht, withthe benefit of modern materials. She has a number of distinctive European features: high, bulwarked bows, a full keel with a largeprotected rudder, a heavy displacement and a rounded stern. This makes her comfortable and dry in all but the most extreme conditionsand her waterline length of just less than14m enables an excellent cruising displacement speed. Sailing is simple and trouble-free. Easy access to sheets makes tacking a one-man operation. As could be expected with such a well builtboat, she ‘stands up’ in fresh conditions and provides the comfort of minimal heel. She is definitely suited to a discerning owner who knows there is more to life than getting from “A” to “B” as quickly as possible. General information: Stella Maris’ interior has been finished in American Cherry. This rich, red wood is offset by plush leather and suede upholstery. Teak andholly flooring completes the luxurious effect, and air conditioning throughout ensures everyone remains comfortable no matter what theoutside conditions. There is full head room throughout with a spacious engine room plus extensive storage areas. Accommodation is generously described as ‘ample’, sleeping 10 people comfortably. The owner’s master stateroom has an ensuite andenclosed shower, a large, island double bed, and a DVD player and LCD TV screen. Further forward there are two VIP cabins one doubleand one twin all with ensuites. Additionally the bow cabin has four generous bunks with a separate ensuite. All cabins enjoy excellentheadroom, and there’s no risk of even the tallest passengers banging their heads. Throughout the locker space is generous, and thereare large hatches which provide abundance of fresh air. A padded leather couch along the rear and side of the wheelhouse provides agreat conversation area and easily accommodates half a dozen people. The vessel is ketch-rigged, with alloy masts and booms. Her mainmast is 17m high, and the mizzen about two-metres shorter. Her sailarea (110m2) generates sufficient thrust to see her sailing comfortably at up to 10 knots. A 1.7m draught enables her to anchor in relativelyshallow water. All-stainless steel rigging supports alloy masts and booms. Cheoy Lee winches take the sweat out of hoisting sails. Theself-furling genoas complemented slab-reefing on the main and mizzen. Engine power’s supplied by a pair of 4.5litre John Deere’s developing 150hp each. These thrust her 30 tonne displacement to a topspeed of 10 knots. Engine hours are less than 200 hours. There is a 15 kva 230v generator. All controls and gauges are easily visiblearound the helm station, equipped with a padded skipper’s seat, and the large wheelhouse provides excellent visibility forward. The twinshaft drives make for easy manoeuvrability. The 3000-litre fuel capacity and the cruising consumption of 15 litres per hour allows for a tripto Fiji under power alone for the complete journey. The boat’s superbly set up for extended luxury cruising. Her fresh water capacity is 2500 litres and she has a 15kva genset (supplementedby four, 200 amp-hour house batteries and an inverter) to provide mains power throughout. This configuration drives two refrigerators, adeepfreeze, ice maker, washing machine and separate drier and a microwave. Entertainment is provided by a sound system, DVD playerand large-screen LCD TV. An impressive range of electronics includes Navnet GPS system, radar, sounder, VHF, SSB and entertainment systems. The mainelectronics package is a Furuno Navnet navigation system, running off a standard Windows-based computer and driving dual LCDscreens. Data is supplied by GPS receiver, sonar and radar, which all feed into the integrated displays. A TMQ autopilot will ease steeringblues on long trips. She has a Maxwell heavy duty, double chain anchor winch with 80m of chain and large plough anchor. The tender is a three-metre RIB with15hp outboard, and for diving it’s also the perfect accessory to the onboard Bauer compressor.
