The design criteria for this kitchen design was that it had to be rich, warm and quality driven. The stone, which is clad to the front of the island unit, was sourced for its natural beauty and lovely veins. When considering the material to be used for the most used surface in the kitchen - the benchtop, thought had to be given to find a surface solution that is beautiful, bright and easy to live with. Staron® Solid Surfaces in colour Bright White was chosen for its low maintenance qualities, smooth nature and ability to assist in light reflection. This innovative kitchen design also allowed the designer to incorporate an offset breakfast bar for the kids to congregate and socialise around, it was an added bonus. Staron® has a renewable, stain resistant surface with no open joins, so it was also carried through to the laundry benchtop. The bench space doubled in this area and the designer was also able to install a two way linen cabinet, which is pure design brilliance. Accessories are black and appealing in contrast to the crisp white benchtops; they also compliment and tie in with the selected designer lighting. It oozes a refined modernism that one aspires to reach in their life.

This new kitchen was created in a substantial home extension. The materials and colours had to be considered carefully to create a beautiful work zone that filled the large open space while providing a functional layout. Three islands were designed and two rear wall runs, featuring Staron® Solid Surface benchtops throughout. The central hub consists of a circular table with a Staron® table top that is back lit to create a glowing feature. An oversized pendant light above the table adds drama and glamour. The adjoining island units snugly surround the table, creating more focus on the central feature with their curved form. The cooktop and cleaning zones are concealed behind joinery, drawing the eye to the table area, and providing a focal point within the large space. Being big entertainers, the clients required a bench top that would be durable and create impact, Staron® Solid Surfaces was the perfect surface solution for this project, as it was able to provide large islands tops with no open joins. The illuminative nature of Staron® also enhances the central feature. The colour ‘Ocean View’ was selected for its texture and warm tones to complement the striking timber veneer and copper accents.

For a stunning architecturally designed space, a special product was required to turn this ensuite of this award winning home into an amazing feature. The result was delivered using Staron® in colour Onyx. Staron® was used to create a dado half wall with stainless steel surrounds. The design complemented the rammed earth walls of the home seamlessly, creating a high end finish sought by the home owners. The non-porous nature of Staron® provided a hygienic and durable option for the wet area. The design versatility of the product allowed the dado style wall to go from imagination to reality. The aesthetically pleasing nature of Staron® created a timeless piece of luxury with warmth and a tranquil feel. This project has been awarded the HIA Tasmanian Bathroom of the Year.

Chicken Hub is a busy takeaway food outlet in Adelaide’s Aberfoyle Park, offering food from the heart. Tania Kloester of TK Design created a space to accommodate both dine in and takeaway customers. A dining hub was created, using Staron® Mosaic Dalmatian for seating, and Metallic Sleeksilver for the tabletops. The clients specified that they wanted to use a product that was easy to clean, had no open joins, and offered an impressive feature to the space. Having replaced the old upholstered seating several times, the fast-food outlet required a surface that was repairable and durable. The properties of Staron® Solid Surfaces have allowed for the banquette seat to be ergonomically formed with seamless built-in table areas to the waiting area. The colour and texture of Staron® Mosaic Dalmatian feels smooth, and offers a unique pattern with a soft forgiving nature. Staron® Metallic Sleeksilver was used in the fabrication of the table tops; complementing the seating and surrounding area perfectly. The non-porous properties offer a hygienic, easy-to-clean application, which looks and feels inviting. Additionally, Staron® meets NSF51 National Sanitation Foundation Accreditation for safe food hygiene, which means it is a practical surface solution for commercial kitchens. Staron® can be created into long and wrapping counters, serving areas, food hall tables, wall cladding, preparation areas, seating, signage and more. This extensive new office fit-out needed to introduce a new open-plan approach, develop flexibility, adaptivity, collaboration, community and the notion of working together. To implement these design principles, the concepts of geometry was woven throughout the space aesthetically, in form, finish and functionality. These concepts take centre stage in the reception area, where Staron® was curved via thermoforming, and clad to the reception counter top, sides and front. The Staron® surface was also ‘imprinted’ with flush mounted tessellated marble mosaic tiles on one end of the unit. This reflects the core concepts of flexibility and ‘working together’. The counter itself works as a landing point for visitors to the space whilst also offering administration staff a comfortable and pleasing environment in which to conduct their daily duties. With a smooth finish and no open joins, Staron® fits the performance requirements of a busy reception counter and concierge point with a welcoming appeal. It offers a clean and hygienic surface to provide a clean workspace and avoid cross contamination, as it does not promote the growth of bacteria. Staron® can also be used to create desks, toilet partitions, bathroom vanities, table tops, wall panelling, kitchenettes, furniture and more.

The demanding and high traffic environment of retail fit-outs needs a surface that is durable, hard wearing, renewable and non-porous. Staron® meets every criteria to create a project that will look like the day it was installed, for years to come. Inconspicuous joins make cleaning easy with no dirt trapping crevices, unachievable with many other materials. Located in the centre of the CBD retail area of Sydney, the Sunglass Hut Flagship store had to be unique and an elevated expression of the Sunglass Hut brand. It had to redefine the brand experience and be relevant to the specific location. The design of the retail fit-out also had to have a visual connection with the iconic and globally recognisable elements of Sydney: sun, beach and waves. The thermoformable nature of Staron® made it the perfect surface solution to create a design concept inspired by the loop of a wave. Long, monolithic curved walls were created with Staron® in colour Quasar White featuring a radius at both the top and bottom to represent the wave. The Staron® ‘waves’ display the sunglasses in an inviting and striking design for customers to see and try on the sunglasses.

This hotel is the first new luxury destination to be built in Cairns. The design criteria for this project was to mix beach themed interiors in a tropical esplanade location. The foyer of the hotel has been designed to reflect the beauty of the location without interrupting the direct views to the esplanade foreshore. Staron® cladding was selected for its superior finish and ability to mould monolithically into curved cladding around the existing columns. The elliptical shape is the key design element to the foyer - drawing the eye over the pool and out to the esplanade. Staron® Solid Surfaces in colour Supreme™ Delphi was curved through thermoforming and wrapped around the impressive columns from the floor up to the meet the high ceiling. The height of the columns creates an open, luxurious and welcoming feel. The hotel reception counters have also been clad entirely with thermoformed Staron® to emulate the curves of the columns. Due to the easy maintenance and durable nature, Staron® was the perfect surface solution for this high-traffic area. In addition, Staron® was also clad to the large planter boxes throughout the lobby area. Filled with vibrant green plants, the Staron® frames the greenery to further enhance a tropical feel to the space.

Healing begins with a patient’s environment. Staron® offers a warm, soft and soothing feel to the skin. It does not feel ‘cold’ like many other surfaces do. Staron® also offers a hygienic finish that abolishes cross contamination, perfect for dental surgeries, hospitals and aged care facilities. When GHD were searching for a surface to clad on the walls of the nurses station in the Starlight Express Room, they searched for a material that lends itself to hospital environments. The material had to be visually stimulating while still meeting the stringent hospital standards in relation to cleaning and hygiene. Staron® Solid Surfaces met this criteria due to its non-porous nature that abolishes cross contamination. This area of the hospital is a welcome retreat for the seriously ill children/teenagers and their families giving them an environment away from the rigours of hospital life, so the materials selected had to adhere with the concept of an internal garden that aims at bringing the outdoor environment indoors to create a hub of fun and distraction. The Staron® surface provides a warm and inviting surface to touch, with the soft curves also creating an organic feel. Staron® additionally prevents the growth of mould or mildew, providing a clean surface solution. This also means it can be used in and around showers and bath tubs by creating curves for easy access. The seamless nature of Staron® adds heightened hygiene and eliminates dirt trapping crevices, that is essential in this type of industry. Staron® also extends itself to fully integrated dentistry bowls, baby baths or sinks and vanities - with no open joins, just one continuous surface. Staron® is Greenguard® Certified to support good indoor air quality and Greenguard® Gold Certified as a low-emitting interior building material that is safe to be used in educational environments. Therefore, Staron® is the perfect surface solution for unlimited applications in the education industry, from daycare centres, primary schools, high schools, universities and other educational institutes. The ‘Teaching Space Project’ which forms a part of the University of Queensland’s Great Court Complex delivers a High-tech PC2 undergraduate interactive wet laboratory facility. The space has been designed to fill identified key gaps in the school’s upper-level undergraduate teaching program and is located within the heritage listed Goddard Building. The facility enables the ability to instruct students in modern biological techniques requiring a high level of containment, and the capacity to deliver small-group tutorial-based instruction within the context of computer-based learning. Staron® Solid Surfaces in colour Aspen Glacier has been used for the laboratory benchtops due to its chemical resistance, visual appearance and design flexibility. The durability, non-porosity and smooth nature of the product also made it an ideal surface for a laboratory application. The suitability of Staron® in an educational institute also extends to public restrooms. The renewable and non-porous nature of Staron® does not promote the growth of mould, mildew or bacteria. Staron® also provides a non-absorbent nature to odours to improve hygiene. It can also be sanded back to its original condition, which extinguishes grafitti. The design brief for this super yacht was to create a fast, luxurious and innovative cruising yacht that achieved the perfect balance of form, function and performance. There was a desire for modern design and construction technology, and a need to deliver the traditional Buizen values of premium build quality, structural integrity, engineering excellence and sumptuous hand crafted artisanal finishes. When the search began for suitable surfaces for the galley and ensuite, the non-porous nature of Staron® Solid Surfaces made it the perfect surface solution. Staron® does not promote the growth of mould or mildew making it an ideal material for wet areas found in any marine application, such as the galley, outdoor tables, benches and panelling. Staron® in colour Pearl was used for the galley benchtops and ensuite/shower wall surfaces. The benchtop also features a tile cove in the back of the benchtop where it meets the glass splashback for easy cleaning, and an integrated bin to keep things tidy. The undermount sink means a ‘one-wipe’ flow exists from the benchtop straight into the sink with no dirt trapping crevices. Staron® perfectly matched the overall premium quality finish of the Buizen 52.

Staron® Solid Surfaces has been used in the Stuart Weitzman for Hermanns fit-out in the exclusive Westfield Sydney. Staron® has been thermoformed to create curves, and formed into shelving that emulates the shapes of a flowing piece of ribbon. The design concept was first used in Stuart Weitzman stores throughout Europe, and has now been rolled out into Australian fit-outs. The Staron® surface begins at the door of the fitout and continues up, down and around the walls of the entire store. It curves and intertwines capturing the flowing effect of a long piece of ribbon. The curves also continue onto the service counter, keeping within theme. The smooth nature of Staron® Solid Surfaces also means that the surface continues around the entire store with no open joins, just one continuous piece of material. The shelving lines the walls of the store, as well as additional art-like pieces in the centre, showing off the high end merchandise. The non-porous nature of Staron® also ensures that it will look great for years to come in this high traffic retail installation.

Most dirt and stains are easily cleaned by using warm soapy water or an ammonia-based cleanser. For a deep clean, use a white Scotch-Brite® pad and a mild-abrasive cleanser such as Jif and clean in a circular motion. Complete the clean by wiping with a soft damp cloth. These steps will rejuvenate the surface, buff away fine scratches, and keep your Staron® surface looking fresh and clean for many years to come. Standard Staron® Edge Profiles

The following edge profiles are amongst the most popular. Staron® offers the design flexibility and freedom to create your own custom and personalised edge profile. Ask your Staron® supplier about more edge profile options available. Most benchtops in Staron® are a standard 38mm thick, however, the flexibility of Staron®

means that any benchtop thickness can be created with minimal effort, and staying within your budget. Many other materials only offer a 20mm standard thickness.
