PROFILE • Alexander Chapman Ferguson was born on 31st December

1941 at Glasgow

• He was born in a poor family were his father was a worker in ship and his mother was a house wife

• Fergie had an avid interest in soccer and supported rangers as a fan.

• He started as an amateur player at tender age of sixteen at QPR.He was a shop steward of a tool room when he was 21 and that experience made him realize his leadership qualities

• Due to his performance he signed a contract at rangers for 65,000 pound which was a record breaking transfer between two clubs

• He performed well as a striker with an average one goal per 3 matches. He then finished his playing carrer with avir united a small struggling club

EARLY MANAGEMENT CARRER• Ferguson was appointed as manager of

 East stringshare second level tier club in Scotland at age of 32

• He was a strict disciplinarian and a task master

• But due to scarce resources his club did not succeed

• He then became the manager of st mirren and he transformed the club from a second tier low teams to first division champions in 1977

• St mirren is the only club to ever sack him as was blamed to provide unauthorized payment to player and even intimidating the assistant coaches

• The chairman of st mirren William Todd told that he had no managerial ability

LATE MANAGEMENT CARRER• Aberdeen was a one of the top three reputed

club of Scotland and he became the manager of that club

• Within 2 years Aberdeen won the Scottish league and qualified for the Europe cup an elite competition in Europe

• In 1983 fergie did the impossible. his team defeated Real Madrid by 2-1 to win the Europe cup

• Fergie won the league cup in 1984 and finished 4th in 1985

• Ferguson was described by the players a tough guy who will do anything to extract task

• He would blame the media by telling that they were biased towards the Glasgow clubs and this would motivate the players to perform better

• Ferguson resigned in 1986 as he felt that he needs to move on and manage bigger clubs

MANCHESTER UNITED(1986-Dontknow)• Even though he was strict but he came into a

bigger league and therefore it took time for fergie to apply his discipline routine for the big name players

• He struggled for 3 years and could not win even a single trophy.

• The fans were against him and wanted the chairman to sack him

• In 1989-90 the draught was over. Sir Alex Ferguson won his first trophy in form of the fa cup

• Manchester united won the first premier league in 1990-91 and first European cup in 1998-99

• In total during his 25 years reign sir Alex Ferguson won 12 premier league,5 fa cups,2 champions league,4 league cups, and 14 other secondary tournaments

• Till date he is the most successful manager and the longest reigning manager in the world

• A huge void will be created after his departure

• According to the Iowa theory he is autocratic

• With regards to Ohio leadership study he has more concern for task as concerned to people

• And with Michigan leadership studies theory he has a job centered behavior

• Finally the management grid is concerned with lots of analysis its (9,9).
