We have made a lot of improvements and updates to our club over the winter and lucky for us, they just keep coming! Have you seen the restrooms on #6 recently? If not, your in for a pleasant surprise! The LGA financed a complete makeover for the Ladies and Men’s restrooms. So THANK YOU Ladies for your generosity! THANK YOU also so to the members and staff who were involved in everything from gutting to painting to installing new fixtures! You did a great job, the restrooms look great! And before I close, just a reminder. As always, our continued success depends on new memberships! So, as you start thinking about the 2016 Member-Guest, consider inviting someone new this year. Someone who will fall in love with High Meadows and be our next new member!
All the best, Brad

TIP OF THE MONTH! "Playing from Rough"
As the temperature rises our rough is becoming a bigger and bigger obstacle to overcome. While I am sure this is news to most of you that never miss fairways, the following article is to help the rest of us that miss more than a few on a regular basis! The biggest key for getting out of the rough is hitting the ball first. Hitting the ball first will help maximize the distance you get out of the shot. Start by moving the ball back to slightly behind the middle of your stance. This will help you to hit the ball on a more descending angle which will in turn allow you to hit the ball first. I would also recommend a more lofted club. It is difficult if not impossible to get a club with less loft (4,5,6 iron) in the air and on the correct line. Next make sure you choke down on the club a little bit. By shortening the effective length of the club it is easier to hit the ball first. Choking down will also give you more control over the club and make it easier to control through impact, keeping the grass from rotating the club face and causing the ball to fly offline. Don’t try to make it all up on the next shot. If you have hit in the rough, take your medicine and get the ball back in the fairway. This will give you a larger margin for error and help you shrink your odds of making a higher score than necessary.
UPCOMING EVENTS!
Please check your calendars for upcoming events in June. We have a busy schedule and hope to see all of our members in these events. We will start the month off with our Member-Member, Ladies Queen Bee, Ladies Invitational, the Jam outing and then round out the month with Men's Stag Day. Also do not forget our weekly events Men's Play Days, Ladies Day and our weekly Points Chase. Call the Golf Shop for information or for sign ups.
REMINDER:
Please make note that the Driving Range will close at 4:00PM on Mondays and Thursdays for mowing and maintenance.
Thank you, The Golf Shop Staff!

Summer is finally arriving and the club looks great. Our committee continues to work to attract new members. Look for our ads in Triad Golf and the Carolina Golf Journal. Remember, we have some great incentives this year – our membership is truly a bargain. There is some indication that real estate traffic is picking up. Our preferred realtors have agreed to produce a real estate booklet focusing exclusively on High Meadows listings. We are hoping to establish an on-site real estate office that should facilitate exposure to homes on the market. You are the club’s most effective ambassadors. Share our fabulous golf course, our re-decorated clubhouse, our superb dining and other amenities with your friends. Bring a new face to Member-Guest. Given the chance, the club will sell itself!

2016 HIGH MEADOWS COUNTRY CLUB PRO AM
Benefitting: The Alleghany County Community Foundation
It is the time of year when we start the “Hole Sponsorship” drive for our annual HMCC Pro Am. The tournament itself is scheduled for Friday, August 26th. The High Meadows membership has made this tournament a tremendous success over the past three years through its generosity as hole sponsors for this tournament. In just three years, through this initiative, High Meadows has become the single largest financial contributor to the Alleghany County Community Foundation. We have a wonderful tournament scheduled again this year and hope to keep the momentum going for such a wonderful cause. As in the past, all the net proceeds from this tournament STAYS in Alleghany County through our contributions to the Foundation. Some of the areas that the money is being used are: Foster Grandparents and senior companion programs, in-school tutoring, rural delivery of the Solid Rock Food Pantry, star pupils, Blue Ridge Read, emergency assistance programs, and many more worthy causes. You should have received a call from a member of the tournament committee soliciting your help, please consider sponsoring a hole during the Pro Am to support the Foundation. Thank you so much for what you have done during the last three years, and let’s make 2016 the best and most successful year yet!
Thank you, 2016 Pro Am Committee

and more events to help cover the ever growing cost of operations. None of us wants to look to raising dues as our first line of covering costs, however, marketing takes time and requires your involvement to get our name back out in our region. We’ve seen movement on home sales in our community and positive things are happening around the club. We have started a new membership drive and once again we ask all of you to get involved, remember that YOU are the link between HMG&CC’s past and future success. All of you are amazing members and are part of HMG&CC for a lot of reasons. Share your story with someone new that can join our family to add that next special memory! As we look toward to our Past President’s Event we all want to take this time to thank all of you who have served as Presidents, served on the Board of Directors or any of the committees over the years. We appreciate all you have done for and given to your club.
See you around the club Mark
