2013 is a year which will in any case be re-membered positively in the company history. We could conclude the business year with a record-high turnover, the number of staff reached an all-time high. All in all, we are very pleased about the situation for it is a proof that more and more customers have confi-dence in us!The very good order situation of last year has also continued in 2014 . Thus another success-ful business year can be expected.

Our capacities will be fully utilized until far into the second half of the year. This terrific success is a motivation for all of us to do our very best - for our customers and their ben-efits.On the basis of this situation we decided at the end of last year to expand our assembly hall by 600 sm² through another building ac-tivity starting in early spring. We will thereby create enough space to fulfill the increased orders for inline machines.

Participation in the largest packaging fair world-wide, the interpack in Düsseldorf (8 to 14 May 2014) is expected to bring im-portant stimuli. Our new exhibition programme of highly flexible technically sophisticated cup filling machines provides the latest innovative solutions in packaging technology. We are expecting exciting after-fair business which is to release a surge in orders.

We are glad about this situation and are full of optimism for the future. But first we are look-ing forward to the interpack in Düsseldorf and hope to welcome you at our stand.

YoursRalf Müllerand the GRUNWALD Team

ELSA-MIFROMA also knows the situation that several product changes during the day have to be made when producing yo-ghurt with different flavours: They know the special requirements in order to reduce product loss and machine downtimes to a minimum. And because every gram counts with ELSA-MIFROMA as well, they opted for the newly developed “integrated inline fruit mixer” when they purchased their new yoghurt filling machine.

The requirements for purchasing a new cup filling machine had been clearly defined from the very beginning:• extremely flexible inline cup filling machine • suitable for frequent change of the fruit

type• at the same time minimum loss of fruit

during the mixing phase• 6-lane design• production speed of 12,000 cups/h• sterilisation of the packing materials by

means of UVC radiation• pre-filler for 6 different types of fruit

masses (6 flavours)•main filler for white mass

The GRUNWALD-FOODLINER 6.000 for 6 fla-vours was developed and manufactured in close cooperation with their subsidiary com-pany Baiko.

The newly developed ”integrated inline fruit mixer“ from GRUNWALD which has already been successfully integrated on rotary-type machines was the ideal solution for this ap-plication as well.

Up to 6 different types of fruitThe result was a highly flexible and innova-tive inline machine for filling up to 6 different types of stirred yoghurt (liquid to thick) or yo-ghurt with up to 6 different fruit preparations.

Thanks to the 6 “integrated inline fruit mix-ers” mounted on this machine the changeover of the fruit type can be made very easily and quickly. The simple yet sophisticated design of this newly developed machine considerably reduces the product loss which had previously been incurred with each change of the fruit type. Thus the customer benefits from maximum flexibility and quick reaction to the market requirements as well as from a considerable reduction in production costs but at the same time increase of the productivity.

High flexibility The inline fruit mixing is of special economic interest when filling e.g. yoghurt with fruit layer. For this purpose a pre-filler for fruit as well as a main filler for filling stirred natural yoghurt are used.

ELSA-MIFROMA group has specialised in the production and packing of dairy products as well as the upgrading of cheese. They have a leading position in Switzerland and are one of the most modern dairy-processing companies in Europe.

On the basis of their experience of more than 60 years and continuous investments in up to date technologies and procedures ELSA-MIFROMA guarantee a constantly high qual-ity of their products. The observation of strict hygiene guidelines, process mastering and the complete retraceability from the producer to the plate guarantee product safety and fulfill the consumers’ requirements.

The outputs which are handled in the 6 com-panies of the group - ELSA, MIFROMA, MI-FROMA France, MIFROMA USA, DÖRIG and BERGSENN – are enormous. Two examples are: ELSA located in Estavayer-le-Lac processed 272 million litres of milk last year and their product range comprises 634 products.

MIFROMA France – the platform on the French market and an open door towards Europe as they describe themselves - has an annual pro-duction output of 8,669 tons (2013).

ELSA-MIFROMA – a production company of the MIGROS group. A company standing for traditional high-quality dairy products in Switzerland and giving top priority to envi-ronment protection. They supply European markets with Swiss semi hard cheese and hard cheese as well as ultra fresh products such as yoghurt, dessert creams and milk drinks.

In order to produce stirred fruit yoghurt on such a machine the pre-filler is used as fruit pump which doses the fruit preparation cycle by cycle into the stirred natural yoghurt. The dynamic “inline fruit mixer” evenly mixes the fruit preparation with the yoghurt.

The percentage of fruit preparation can be modified on the operator panel of the GRUNWALD cup filling machine. The modified values are automatically stored in the recipe control. The changeover of the cup filler from filling yoghurt with fruit layer to filling stirred fruit yoghurt is carried out fully-automatically by touching the corresponding button on the operator panel.

”EASYCLEAN“ – dosing system in aseptic design (EHEDG-certified)The piston valve fillers for this GRUNWALD-FOODLINER 6.000 were designed according to aseptic guidelines and all housing connec-tions are similar to aseptic pipe connections according to DIN 11853. The functioning of the piston valve filler “EASYCLEAN” was veri-fied by the University of Weihenstephan and they confirmed its effectiveness (EHEDG cer-tificate).

ELSA-MIFROMA continuously invests in the most up-to-date technologies and procedures. With the new innovative 6-lane GRUNWALD inline machine they are still in a position to constantly guarantee top quality of their products.

The versatile machine equipment offers an enormous flexibility, guarantees the required reliability of the production process and thus the production costs can be reduced consider-ably. Thus Baiko is prepared for the requirements and needs of future markets and the consum-ers’ demands.

interpack 2014We are very happy to show this inter-esting cup filling machine GRUNWALD- FOODLINER 6.000 with integrated inline fruit mixer and ”EASYCLEAN“ dosing system at this year’s INTERPACK exhibition in Düsseldorf.

We thank ELSA-MIFROMA and Baiko for their approval and for the trustful cooperation based on partnership.

MORE THAN JUST PACKAGING08.-14. Mai 2014

in Düsseldorf/Germany

Whoever sells his products to discounter markets or commercial chains knows the increasing demand for mixed cartons and/or trays. The products are to be delivered in several flavours in one package.

The difficulty consists of the fact that every discounter wants a different product combination in the mixed cartons. Customers’ purchase behaviour is very flexible and transient. Hence, the combinations change continually. The customer is king - and he is the one who wants to have one flavour today another one tomorrow and something completely new the day after tomorrow. Such requirements cannot be fulfilled in ever shorter reaction times.

Not every production line is able to meet these ample requirements. The consequence is that the manufacturers have to pack the products manually or re-sort them in the cold room with substantial manpower. The other alternative, i. e. a sorting, repackaging or consignment machine involves high costs and moreover much space in the production hall.

We have the technology! How about mixing the types of fruit in the machine already! The problem of sorting and re-packaging would not arise! How about arranging the types of fruit on the outfeed conveyor belts as the packer needs them for the mixed cartons? No problem!

You have the product - We have the technology!

We have the solutionFor filling yoghurt products with different flavours, individually packed in mixed cartons GRUNWALD has the adequate machine concept: the inline cup filling machine with up to 6 integrated dynamic “inline fruit mixers”. This cup filling machine can be adjusted at any time to react on changing market requirements. It is the filling machine which provides the necessary scope for the supplier to assemble the types of fruit and the number of mixed cartons in which the cups are placed. A cup filling machine which produces the exact amount not more or less and assorts the exact types of fruit into the mixed cartons which are demanded by the consumer.

Highest flexibilityThe recipe control allows any filling task to be started extremely flexible and very quickly. By pushing a button the exact product is chosen out of the variety of products. A change of types of fruit is necessary? No problem. 6 dynamic “inline fruit mixers” are available.

The dynamic “inline fruit mixer”When developing the “inline fruit mixer” we especially took care to keep the product transportation ways extremely short. In case of a change of types of fruit the mixing phase is reduced to a minimum. The hated loss of fruit is lowered substantially thereby.

That means: You are quickly able to switch from one sort to the next with a minimal loss of product and you are absolutely flexible if it comes to assort your mixed carton and the numbers. This can be done at any time even several times a day!

That’s not the end of the story! One thing is completely clear! With this FOODLINER you really have an enormous variety of production possibilities - with an extremely low changeover time of less than 5 minutes per type of fruit.

But this highly flexible yoghurt filling machine can even do more. Our designers have another technical solution available to provide the highest flexibility for this inline mixer in order to present your products in a perfect way. The mentioned variety can even be increased for you can always choose if• up to 6 different types of stirred yoghurt

(liquid or pasty) or

• yoghurt with fruit underneath with up to 6 different fruit assortments sorts

shall be filled. All this for one and the same mixed carton!

The sketches on this page show how manifold the product combinations in the mixed cartons can be in case of a 6-coloured filling of stirred yoghurt or yoghurt with fruit mixtures beneath. They illustrate the enormous flexibility of this cup filling machine.

GRUNWALD cup filling machinesfor experts in their fieldWe are a little bit proud to have been the partner of Fairfield Dairy, this very successful and ultramodern dairy, for several years. At last there are more than 13,000 km between us in Wangen im Allgäu and the city Howick in Kwa-Zulu Natal Midlands, the headquarters of Fairfield Dairy in South Africa. And we are also proud having received a subsequent order for two cup filling machines from them last year.

This dairy started in 1987. In the year 2004 Bruce Fly (Managing Director) and Barry Glanz (Operations Director) joined “Fairfield Farm” and founded “Fairfield Dairy”.

Longstanding partnershipThe cooperation with GRUNWALD started in 2007 with the support of our business partner Filmatic from Paarl in the Capetown region. GRUNWALD supplied a 2-lane rotary-type machine type HITTPAC AKH-019SE for filling set yoghurt in round 1 kg cups.

Due to the reliable functioning of this GRUNWALD cup filling machine from the very beginning, the good weight accuracy achieved and the low running costs of this solid and compact rotary-type machine the Opera-tions Director Barry Glanz decided to invest in further GRUNWALD cup filling machines last year.

Last year they placed the order for another two 2-lane rotary-type machines AKH-019SE for yoghurt products with fruit layer and cot-tage cheese with Filmatic. In the meantime these new cup filling machines were commis-sioned successfully.

Experts in their fieldAccording to Fairfield Dairy they are the most modern dairy in South Africa and do not use any preservatives for the yoghurt and dessert production which can only be achieved by the strict observation of hygiene guidelines and EHEDG rules.

This dairy offers an enormous variety of products. The product range e.g. includes smoothies with various flavours, natural yo-ghurt and yoghurt with fruit layer, drinking yoghurt and desserts. They are proud calling themselves as one of South Africa‘s most trusted and re-spected dairies. Above all it is their innova-tive spirit and technical process in their dairy which makes Bruce Fly and Barry Glanz con-stantly improve their products and success-fully lead their company in the future.

“Hard work pays off” is the motto of Fairfield Dairy in South Africa. The awards granted in the past 3 years, e.g. from the supermarket chain Woolworth to be the “Woolworth supplier of the year” prove that this motto is justified. In addition Woolworth extended the existing longstanding cooperation with Fairfield Dairy further and concluded a contract with Fair-field Dairy as supplier for premium yoghurt, cottage cheese and desserts.

We were pleased to deliver two further cup filling machines to Fairfield Dairies via our partner Filmatic which has intensified our co-operation with this esteemed customer and which has also strengthened our presence and reputation in South Africa further.

Dead-easy game in Dittersdorf

Farm dairy invests in flexible cup fillers with dynamic “inline fruit mixer”

The new farm dairy in Dittersdorf - a mod-ern company with new and outstanding approaches for their tasks. Already when choosing the design for the new school milk cup an unusual but brilliant way was opted for.

The best designers supported the farm dairy with their numerous ideas - the children of a local school class! The scholars let their creativity run wild and submitted more than 100 proposals for the new design of the school milk cup. Not only the participating children will be curious about the new cup.

One for allAs adequate as the design for the school milk cup as adequate the new filling machine for filling the different dairy products should be. Curd, cottage cheese and natural yoghurt as well as different types of fruit yoghurt and school milk shall be filled by one and the same machine. With this variety of products short changeover times and a high flexibility of the machines were as vital as a customer-friendly handling in order to work efficiently.

The innovative concept of the dynamic “inline fruit mixer” developed by GRUNWALD together with the advantages of a compact and robust rotary cup filling machine type HITTPAC AKH-019SE/1-lane convinced the responsible people.

The advantages of this machine concept are manifold: besides enormous time-saving and maximum flexibility of this machine the simple and technically brilliant construction of the “inline fruit mixer” significantly reduces product loss arising in any change of fruit types - independent of whether fruit yoghurt, yoghurt with fruit beneath or school milk with different flavours is filled.

The cup filler was delivered with two different format sets for a round cup Ø 95 and Ø 75 mm with a plate top. The universally designed sealing station is suited for the sealing of both formats. The quick sealing system used on the rotary-type machine supports the time-saving in daily production and provides the necessary flexibility for an optimal and wide range of products.

In spring 2014 Dittersdorfer Milch GmbH will start production at the new site where only their own milk will be processed .Tradition, innovation and new production technologies will then be united under the roof of the new farm dairy.

We are delighted that the supplied rotary-type cup filling machine type HITTPAC AKH-019SE is the solution for the manifold filling tasks and last but not least contributes to support the Dittersdorfer Milch GmbH in their aims and visions.

When the impossible becomes feasible

GRUNWALD supply flexible packing line to Finland

Our customers‘ tasks are highly interesting. In order to fulfill the special requirements for filling the customers’ high-quality products innovative solutions are already required during the planning phase. Know how and up-to-date knowledge on the status of technical developments are required in order to finally make a decision for appropriate and reasonable technology.

Our know how and our innovative solutions were especially in demand when we received an enquiry for a cup filler for liquid and viscous dairy products like Viili, sour cream, “Smetana” and quark - also combined with jam and flavours - with the following specification: • sterilisation of cups and lids• quick change over time•production speed up to 20,000 cups/h• integrated packer • “low level“ cup and snap-on lid magazines•2 round cup sizes with different cup

heights •cup and seal lid sterilisation •pre-filler and main filler in CIP design

First of all it was clear that the GRUNWALD-FOODLINER 20.000 would be quoted. As it was the case with numerous previous orders the requirements for “low level” magazines were fully met.

As the customer also enquired an integrated packer GRUNWALD acted as general contrac-tor and offered an integrated packer as well as a tray erector in addition to the inline cup filling machine. The individual components of this filling and packing line have proven their value for many years and they can be inte-grated in a harmonious way.

Appropriate technology makes it possible Our ergonomic “low level“ cup storage which can be refilled with cups without having to use a platform was used for this project as well. However, the existing analogous solution with “low level” snap-on lid storage could not be used due to the packer integrated at the end of the filling line. Now innovative ideas were needed!

Advanced technologyGRUNWALD offers innovative solutions when existing technology reaches its limit. In order to fulfill the requirements and wishes of the customer the 8-lane “low level” snap-on lid storage was “removed” and positioned next to the inline machine. This means: A servo-driven feeding system, newly developed by GRUNWALD, fully-automatically feeds 8 snap-on lid stacks to the snap-on lid setter integrated in the machine

Flexible cup filler offering a lot of convenienceThe result of our thoughts and innovative ide-as was an 8-lane fully-automatic cup filling and packing line type GRUNWALD-FOODLINER 20.000 with integrated pick-and-place packer and tray erector, a flexible cup filling machine, easy-to-operate and with multifunctional equipment. For the sterilisation of the cups and seal lids UV(C) high-pressure pulsating radiators were used. Laminar cabins mounted above the filling stations guarantee a high hygiene standard.

Several dosing stations allow for a large num-ber of different fillings – for fruit layer or stirred yoghurt, flavoured mixed quark, viili and crème fraîche etc. – and offer the custom-er maximum flexibility. The complete dosing stations are in CIP design. In order to achieve a very high weight accuracy the main filler is equipped with a volume fine adjustment for each lane. In order to guarantee the overall convenient operation of the machine and to increase the machine availability the lid magazine is in horizontally split design. This offers the ad-vantage to refill the film seal lids without a machine stop.

The extensive equipment of this flexible cup filler also includes• sterile air cover above the hopper • cup centering station for the optimum

sealing of the cups • leak test station • rejecting station• ink-jet coding station • integrated pick-and-place packer for

cardboard trays• fully automatic tray erector

GRUNWALD manufacture cup filling machines with a high, innovative performance range. Our engineers and design engineers attach great value to reflecting the high technical standard of our machinery in a high operating convenience. Therefore attention is paid to the simple han-dling of each station. This does not only save time and costs but also means an additional benefit for the customer.

The GRUNWALD-FOODLINER 20.000 was fully commissioned at the beginning of February 2014 and has been giving reliable service in 2-shift operation since that time. We were very happy about this highly inter-esting order and to supply the Arla group with the 38th cup filling machine. This is a strong sign of confidence in our performance and skills.

The integrated pick-and-place packer automati-cally loads 2 trays with a packing scheme of 2x3, 3x4, 4x4,4x5 each. The tray erector folds the trays and feeds them to the pick-and-place-packer. Trays with leaky cups are automatically discharged via the switch point when leaving the machine.

GRUNWALD NEWS

In October/November 2013 we donated an amount of 3,900.00 Euros to AWAMU, an association in Wangen which supports the population in Uganda with various projects. This was done instead of giving presents to our customers for Christmas. With this amount 3 fresh-water wells

3 more wells built in Ugandacould be built in several villages which now provide fresh drinking water for 300 to 500 people daily.

These wells were given the names of three well-deserved GRUNWALD employees:Anton-Alt well

Martin-Rädler wellThomas-Reutemann well

You can easily see on the photos how hap-py the people are that they now have ac-cess to high-quality clean water daily.

Young staff in sales assistanceSandra Bartl and Corinna Leonhardt who have supported our sales personnel for many years and sometimes have moved heaven and earth will dedicate them-selves to a new very important task in a few weeks: they both will become moth-ers! In March we said goodbye and sent them to maternity leave and subsequent parental leave.

On their last working day for the time being it was hard for both of them to say farewell. At the same time they are looking forward to their babies and the predominant changes in their lives. Sandra wrote us: “Now I am going

to start a new phase of life which will become an entity together with the “old” life.We wish Corinna and Sandra all the best, a lot of joy and few nights without sleep with their offspring.

We as well are subject to changes now. We are pleased that we could attract Sarah Gürsching for the job as sales assistant. She has actively supported Sandra in the weeks before her maternity leave. Since 2011 Sarah has been an apprentice in our company and at the end of January she passed her exam for “industrial clerk “ with an additional qualification “International Eco-

nomic Management with foreign languages”. She was even awarded a prize for her exam. Congratulation on this excellent performance! In her new job as a sales assistant Sarah can use her knowledge acquired and develop per-sonally and in terms of skills. We wish Sarah a lot of fun and success and are looking forward to working with her!
