Audiotool activityFirst of all, register on audiotool. After that, go to APP and start working with the devices you have there. This is the first image you’ll see there:

At the bottom, you have the timeline bar. This area contains the arrangement’s tempo, time signature, global shuffle value, playback position and display format control, transport controls, time-line overview with pan and zoom controls and two buttons to hide or show the time-line and the panels.

If you want more information, follow this link: https://www.manula.com/manuals/audiotool/audiotool-user-manual/1/en/topic/interface-areas-time-line-bar

Above the timeline bar you have CENTROID, the mixer. You can control the volume and process the sound of the devices you’re using in your composition. If you want more information, follow this link: https://www.manula.com/manuals/audiotool/audiotool-user-manual/1/en/topic/devices-centroid-channels-section

You’re going to use these devices:

TONEMATRIX PULVERISATEUR

First, let’s start using TONEMATRIX. When you start working on your composition, remember to follow these three rules:

- SAVE DRAFT (GO TO FILE) EVERY 5 MINUTES IN CASE YOU HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE CONNECTION.- DON’T OPEN OTHER PROGRAMS WHILE USING AUDIOTOOL.- YOUR BROWSER SHOULD BE FIREFOX. GOOGLE CHROME IS ANOTHER OPTION BUT AUDIOTOOL WORKS BETTER ON FIREFOX.

Let’s go back to the first image where you had lots of devices, Centroid and the Timeline bar. You’ll drag three Tonematrix devices from the right side of your screen. Then they’ll become connected with Centroid.

This is the device you’re going to use to compose three short melodies. The rows represent the notes (do, re, fa, sol, la, do…). The columns represent the rhythm. Each column is a sixteenth note rhythm. You have 16 columns, so you can write in each pattern a 4/4 rhythm bar. If you want more information, follow this link: https://youtu.be/-kORsjH2MK4

You are going to write three patterns. The first one will be written in quarter notes in the first TONEMATRIX device. You’ll write it in a lower range and the last note has to be fa. Once you have the first TONEMATRIX pattern, add it in the fifth bar (watch the video I mentioned before). After that, drag the pattern until the bar 20.

The second one will be written in eighth notes in the second TONEMATRIX device. Write it in a middle range and finish this pattern with do.The pattern of the second TONEMATRIX device will go in the ninth bar. After that, drag the pattern until the bar 20.

The third one will be written in sixteenth notes in the third TONEMATRIX device. Write it in a higher range and finish this pattern with fa.The pattern of the third TONEMATRIX will start in the thirteenth bar. After that, drag the pattern until the bar 20.

The following step will be connecting pulverisateur to write the chords.

The chords you’ll make will be Sib major (1 4/4 bar long=a whole note), Sol minor (1 4/4 bar long=a whole note) and Fa major (2 4/4 bars long=two whole notes). If you don’t remember how to make chords take a look at these links: https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-ab&tbm=isch&q=major+chords&chips=q:major+chords,online_chips:keyboard&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjNocqyhvTaAhVBPRQKHeAbDLIQ4lYIKCgC&biw=1600&bih=786&dpr=1#imgrc=bNZ10Wq9w3GxyM: Major chords

Also, here you have information about how to use pulverisateur to make a simple accompaniment: https://youtu.be/5ixKYhNdcQA

Your accompaniment will be 4 bars long. Then, drag the note region to have a 4 bars long one (it is the same as in the video I mentioned before). There you’ll write the chords proposed above. You could try with other 4 bars chord progressions if you want to try something different. In that case, ask the teacher and he’ll help you. Once you have the chords drag the note region and repeat the pattern until the measure 20.

After this, it’s up to you trying to do something else. What about adding a beatbox with some rhythms? Another melody with one of the synthesizers you have? Modifying the sound of your devices?

You have some links which could help you in case you want to do something more advanced.

Once again, don’t forget this is an online software and we’re not sure about how the internet connection will be. Then, follow this advice:

- SAVE DRAFT (GO TO FILE) EVERY 5 MINUTES IN CASE YOU HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE CONNECTION. - DON’T OPEN OTHER PROGRAMS WHILE USING AUDIOTOOL.- YOUR BROWSER SHOULD BE FIREFOX. GOOGLE CHROME IS ANOTHER OPTION BUT AUDIOTOOL WORKS BETTER ON FIREFOX.
