Hafiz Akmal Case Update

You may recall that we had posted case of Hafiz Akmal on 12th Feb 2013 of a poor hafiz e Quran suffering from Sub Glottic Stenosis of the Airway which required implant of a new polyfibre Stent . We visited his house just to check his health & well being & to provide him some basic ration etc – the present status of this case is the stent is imported from USA & the surgery is postponed till next week due to non availability of docs this week due to internal exams. Dr. Syed. Muneeruddin HOD ENT & Professor of ENT will be doing the surgery personally along with his team the surgery is planned to run for 8 to 10 hrs – in sha allah we will keep you posted further .

Major Surgeries undertaken this month for Bread Earners

You may recall that we have posted case of Abdul Hanan on 31st

Jan 2013 a young person & sole bread winner suffering from Non Union of the femur which required ORIF & Bone Graft – By the grace of almighty surgery was successfully done at Woodlands Hospital Barkatpura & the patient has been discharged & doing well – HHF has released Rs 90,000/- towards the total cost of surgery & medicines in this case ( See attached receipts) in the mail, However the patient has been advised rest for a good 6 months & in sha allah we will provide basic expenses till he has fully recovered to go back to work ( Auto Driver)

Qudhrathullah Age 35 yrs is suffering from Avascular Necrosis of the femoral Head ( Hip Joint) & requires immediate Total Hip replacement which will cost him 2 lacs. He is a plumber by profession married with 2 small children & is unable to work due the femoral bone getting infected. He has managed to collect Rs 1.5 lacs from his savings & relatives – HHF has released Rs 25,000/- for this surgery which was very urgent & critical.

Baby Saba – Orphan Child aged 2 yrs was diagnosed with Bilateral Pneumonia & was admitted in Princess Dure Shevar Hospital , she was intubated due to severe respiratory distress & the poor old gr& mom did not have strength to bear the expenses of Rs 10000 per day for this child. We immediately did a sms campaign & mobilized the req funds – however the child could not survive & succumbed to the illness. HHF remitted Rs 80000/- to PDSH Hospital.

Rabia Naaz 21 yrs young girl R/o Dabeelpura has been diagnosed with Tuberculosis of the Brain ( TB Meningitis) – her father is a daily wager who makes tin boxes & has 5 other girls to support. Each day expenses at Princess Esra hospital is running to Rs 7 to 8k & the distressed family has already borrowed Rs 1 lac to meet the expenses. HHF has released Rs 50000/- & will continue to track this case & help them further in sha allah.

Maimoona aged 8 yrs was diagnosed with Pulmonary TB after running from pillar to post between 2 hospitals which failed to diagnose the disease & on our intervention & advice patient was referred to a Chest specialist in Secundrabad, where a new blood enzyme test called ELLISPOT to detect TB was done & the same was detected – the patient has been put on ATT & Nutri Rehab plan – However it costed us Rs 20000/- to clear the bills at 2 hospitals & run all the required test & provide 2 months medicines & nutrition in this case.

On Going Support for other Cases

We have arranged for 2nd round of consultation for master faisal K/C/O tyrosemnia Type 1 with Dr Anil Jalan pediatric scientist in Mumbai for a review & further course of action. Air Travel, Lab Test & consultation have costed Rs 47000/- which HHF has remitted to continue support for this small baby who is battling life with a deadly metabolic disorder.

4 Rohingya Refugees with their families who got an appointment with UNHCR in New Delhi were paid Rs 10200/- in cash for travel & lodging to help them obtain asylum certificates by UNHCR.

This young man from Rohingya lost both his hands as he was burnt alive but luckily survived & managed to reach here – we have put him on monthly rehab package for handicap.

On Going Support for other Cases

Hind Ahmed Age 24 yrs R/o Somalia (Asylum Seeker) was admitted in Durga Bhai Deskmukh Hospital for delivery. Her husband Ibrahim also a refugee is jobless at the moment & they didn’t have enough for funds for hospital expenses. HHF has given Rs 15000 for hospital & Rs 5000 for other expenses to this needy family.

We bought Osman Pasha suffering from Moya Moya Disease who is unable to walk on his feet a new 3 wheeler cycle costing Rs 17000/- this in sha allah will help Osman commute to school easily hitherto he was lifted by his mother & taken to school.

Miss Mubina whose case was reported in the media recently came in contact with us as you are aware she is a widow with 3 small children and she is also a graduate – we are in the process of finding a house for her and to help her settle down with basic necessities after which we shall arrange to align her to the monthly support program for the widows.

Shakeeb Afzal a case of Synovial Sarcoma is under going treatment at Omega Hospitals – Doctors have now prescribed a Radiation protocol as a last leg of treatment so that tumor is contained & doesn’t re grow – this protocol will run for 5 weeks & cost about 2 lacs – HHF has released Rs 30500 this month

Md Azam 30 yrs is diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma of Bucal Mucosa ( Cheek) & is undergoing treatment at MNJ Cancer Institute, HHF is providing for all expenses for medicines & investigations outside the purview of the Govt Hospital & also providing for his basic maintenance as he has small children to support.

Md Hussain 55 yrs old man is suffering from Carcinoma of Urinary bladder & is under going chemo at Onco Terry Center – HHF has released Rs 15000 this month for his treatment

Zahara Begum 50 yrs is diagnosed Carcinoma of the Tongue & requires Rs 1.3 lacs for 30 sittings of radiation /She is dependent on her son who works in Chatta Bazar Card shop – HHF will release 50% of cost of treatment in sha allah.

Abdul Feroz khan 21 yrs young man is also suffering Osteosarcoma of the Lt Femur – we have supported him for all the chemotherapy and we have released Rs 15000 for whole body PET Scan to review his condition after the end of Chemo therapy.

Other Events During this month

Dr. Ali Mehdi, MRCS, FRCS - Orthopedic & Hip Joint Replacement Specialist from Royal College of Edinburgh, U.K. visited our office for free consultation on 9th Feb & reviewed some hip replacement cases & gave his very valuable advice to these patients – In sha allah he will visiting Hyd next in April & HHF will be lining up Ortho surgeries of very needy patients at Olive hospital where Dr Ali Mehdi will perform the surgeries – this will give us a very huge cost advantage & at the same time the patient will be in best of hands in this field of Joint replacements.

The Ladies Wing of HHF organized an Isthema for ladies the topic was modern day evil in society for women & children this was attend by our weekly out patient attendees & followed by lunch for the other poor patients on 2nd Feb. 2013.

More than 75 + household whose earning members are seriously sick, widowed or orphans are supported for monthly rents, rations, medicines, school fees = Rs 100000/- per month.

Monthly support to poor & young Cancer Patients approx. Rs 1 lac per month
