A COPE COMMITTEE

REMEMBRANCE

During my involvement in the union which has spanned overthree decades, certain individuals stick out in my mind. This isthe case when you speak of Haines Fry, an employee of Bimbo Bakeries, dedicated union activist and steward.

He gave of his time selflessly for the union. When volunteerswere needed to work for union endorsed candidates or individualsto work at a phone band he was first in line.

He was a dedicated union steward who fought every day forthe members he represented and believed deeply in the LaborMovement and its fight for human dignity.

Haines dedication and love of his union not only made a difference but is to be greatly admired. His devotion will not be easily forgotten.

There is No Requirement to Treat at Worknet

By: Darren K. Parr, EsquireDarren K. Parr Law Firm

Injured workers are inappropriately being directed toWorknet for treatment of their work injury. This is becausethe physicians at Worknet have been incorrectly classified insome work places as the “worker’s compensation doctor”.However, please know that if you are injured on the job youare NOT required to treat at Worknet.

More specifically, the Worker’s Compensation Act requiresthat an injured worker be provided a list of six physiciansfrom which to choose. This list is called a Panel PhysiciansList. The Panel Physicians List is to be provided to an injuredworker at the time that they report their work injury. Like-wise, the panel list should be posted somewhere within thework place to be reviewed and/or available for review by allemployees. Thus, if injured, the only requirement is that theinjured worker treat with one of the panel physicians. There-fore, even if Worknet is on the Panel Physicians List you havethe right to choose your doctor. A company cannot requireyou to go to Worknet.

If you do voluntarily choose to treat with Worknet it is nowcritical that you request a copy of your intake documentation.Upon evaluation, the staff of Worknet will have you completean Intake Form where you will have the opportunity to pro-vide details regarding the work injury. It has been recentlydiscovered, however, that Worknet will eventually destroythe Intake Form. Consequently, the form cannot be reviewedby a Worker’s Compensation Judge at trial if ultimately yourcase is denied by the worker’s compensation carrier. It istherefore suggested that you ask for a copy of the form andfor Worknet to maintain the intake form in your file. Thissimple request will help protect your rights in the future and ultimately protect you and your family.
