Use only the yarn specified. Other yarns are likely to produce different results. Quantity is approximate as it can vary between knitters. Ensure all yarn is from the same dye lot.

NEEDLES AND EXTRAS• 6mm (UK 4) circular knitting needle

(100cm long).• wool needle for sewing in ends.• piece of cardboard 10cm wide and crochet

hook for fringe.

TENSION26 sts and 19 rows to 10cm over Herringbone st, using 6mm needles.Correct tension is not essential for this shawl, however stated measurements and yarn quantity are based on this tension.NOTE – Shawl is worked on larger needles than usually recommended for this yarn.

SHAWLUsing 6mm circular needle, cast on 208 sts.NOTE – A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of sts. Work backwards and forwards in rows.Foundation row (wrong side) – Inc in each st to end … 416 sts.

BEG HERRINGBONE ST AND SHAPING –1st row – (Sl 1, K1, psso) twice, * sl 1, K1, lift slipped st with left-hand needle over K1 and knit into back of st, rep from * to last 4 sts, (K2tog) twice … 412 sts.2nd row – P1, * P2tog but before dropping sts off left-hand needle, purl first of these sts again, allowing both sts to drop off needle tog, rep from * to last st, P1.Rep last 2 rows 79 times, then 1st row once ... 92 sts and 161 rows patt in total.

162nd row – P3tog, * P2tog but before dropping sts off left-hand needle, purl first of these sts again, allowing both sts to drop off needle tog, rep from * to last 3 sts, P3tog … 88 sts.163rd row – As 1st row … 84 sts.Rep last 2 rows 9 times, then 162nd row once … 8 sts.Next row – (Sl 1, K1, psso) twice, (K2tog) twice ... 4 sts.Next row – (P2tog) twice, turn, K2tog.Fasten off.

TO MAKE UPFRINGE –Wind yarn around piece of cardboard and cut along one edge. Fold 6 strands in half and using crochet hook, draw loop through stitch at bottom corner, draw ends through loop and pull firmly. Repeat evenly along both shaped sides. Trim neatly.
