To introduce Lancaster, our wonderful city

We’ve created this little informative ditty

Lancaster has historic and cultural landmarks galore

A beautiful castle, museums, theatres and more

There are street markets, fine restaurants, and quirky old bars

You can even watch a play, in the park, under the stars

And, if you’re looking for that more ‘individual’ gift

Our independent shopkeepers will give you a lift

With concerts and street theatre, there’s so much to see

And for a great place to walk, try the riverside quay

Feel the warmth of the welcome in our lovely City

Please don’t miss out – that’d be such a pity.

Lancaster is full of unique places to visit and we hope you’ll enjoy seeing them all while you’re here! Everything is close together and easily accessible on foot.Situated in the heart of the city, the Grade 1 listed Lancaster Castle houses a dark history to be explored on one of their guided tours. The Museum of Childhood located in the Judge’s Lodgings is a must see, along with a trip down St George’s Quay to the Maritime Museum. Venture further into town to find the City Museum, illustrating Lancaster’s rich history and archaeology. Or visit St John’s Church, a heritage site and Georgian gem offering weekly tours and a calendar of events.

Follow the delicious aromas of roasting coffee down China Street to J. Atkinson & Co. This family run business has been supplying the people of Lancaster since 1837 and the historic shop is a hidden treasure in our city.

An 18th Century building in the heart of the city centre, the Assembly Rooms holds an Aladdin’s Cave of different stalls from antiques to vintage fashion. If visiting us on a Wednesday or Saturday, come along to our Charter Market, selling everything from local food to vintage fashions.

Overlooking the city centre is the iconic Ashton Memorial, located in the picturesque Williamson Park. The park also contains an Edwardian Butterfly House and the Pavilion Café. The views from the top of the park over Morecambe Bay are breath taking and well worth the walk up the hill!
