The Habib Family Fou Fou Habib Fou Fou’s goal in life is to give his family the best opportunities possible. If that means moving to a foreign place, so be it, he’s done it before! First Lebanon to Australia, now he’s dragging his brood from a weatherboard house in the ‘burbs to the world of the rich and famous. A builder by trade, Fou Fou is also a homebody who comes across as gruff, but deep down is a big softie. The most conservative member of the Habib clan he’s the biggest fish out of water in this new world. Fou Fou’s prevailing trait is his pig-headedness. As the war with Olivia escalates, Fou Fou demonstrates that he’ll cut off his nose to spite his face. Even his central goal – giving his family the best life possible – is dispensable when it comes to winning the war against Olivia. And this sums up Fou Fou – his pride often gets in the way of his goals. Mariam Habib Mariam keeps the Habib clan clothed, bathed, fed – and mostly sane. Yet Mariam has always yearned for more than just being a housewife, so when a change of scenery beckons in Australia’s richest neighbourhood, she grabs it with both hands – along with the expensive clothes, exclusive yacht club membership, and posh new friends. When hostility breaks out between Fou Fou and next door neighbour Olivia O’Neill, Mariam tries to keep the peace between the two gladiators, and in the process strikes an unlikely relationship with Jack O’Neill – with whom she shares a love of baking. At the same time Mariam must keep an eye on her wayward son Toufic, manage daughter Layla’s personal dramas, and try not mollycoddle the life out of middle child Elias. Toufic Habib Toufic’s dream is to make his mark in the world and ultimately impress his father. Before the lottery win he was brimming with unusual, and mostly terrible ideas – like a taxi with a kebab rotisserie in it – the Cababab, a hollow golf club which can be urinated in on the course – the sneak leak, and the jetski pizza delivery business – for people who live on boats. Now with his father’s money, Toufic’s no longer just an ideas man – he’s a genuine danger to society and himself. Despite all his sure fire hits misfiring, Toufic’s confidence cannot be shaken. Big

ambitions and microscopic common sense, it’s a race against the clock – will Toufic come up with a commercial hit, or will his dad’s bank balance be drained first? Elias Habib Middle child Elias – a university student studying chemistry - wonders how someone as normal as him, could be born into the chaotic family outfit known as the Habibs. More than anyone else, Elias recognises his position - caught between a traditional family and the values of their new country. Elias must negotiate this striking tension, trying to please his family while also being his own man. Constantly underestimated, often talked over, Elias endures his family with frustrated amusement, keeping an eye on the escape hatch at all times. Not that he could ever move out before getting married. And this presents a major problem when the girl of his dreams, next door neighbour Madison O’Neill, suggests they ‘flat’ together. Not only is moving out a mortal family sin, but his long term goal of dating a non-Lebanese girl is tantamount to cultural treason. Elias’s goal of becoming his own man looks unlikely, though he remains determined. Layla Habib At first, Layla isn’t convinced that moving to a posh new suburb is a good idea. Her school friends, and boyfriend (secret to the rest of the family), are back in the old neighbourhood. But Layla also dreams of becoming a social media star – feted by peers, sent free clothes and products – and she soon works out that winning the lottery offers a new set of shiny tools for online exposure. Layla has always been a handful, but her parents wouldn’t know the half of it. Around Fou Fou, Layla acts as though butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth. She believes, foolishly perhaps, that she can keep her conservative parents at bay, while fulfilling her dream to become Australia’s social media queen. The O’Neill Family Olivia O’Neill Olivia is the heiress to heritage biscuit brand, Bonza Biscuits. And she’s lived in the same heritage listed home since she was a girl. Famous in social circles, secretary of the yacht club, she’s an all round icon of the wealthy and powerful. It’s no surprise then that Olivia clashes with the working class Lebanese interlopers who move in next door. Olivia wants them gone, and her old life back. Frustratingly though, her henpecked husband Jack seems fond of the Habibs.

Olivia resents Jack for ‘not playing for the home team’, and makes him toe the line – after all, she’s the one with the money. Like her arch rival Fou Fou, Olivia will risk everything to win the war. Jack O’Neill Good-humoured, awkward, and well… a bit of a cuckold - Jack O’Neill, CEO of Bonza Biscuits, ascended the corporate ladder by marrying the boss’s daughter. From the outside, Jack’s done very well. But in truth, it’s hard work being Olivia’s husband, beholden to her and her family. Sure, the life it affords is good, but Jack wishes he could stop having to keep up appearances. Jack would prefer to be a simple baker – making biscuits is his greatest passion. Jack takes a shine to the Habibs, especially Mariam, who shares his love of baking. But can Jack find a way to reconcile his obligations to Olivia, fulfill his baking dreams, and keep Bonza Biscuits profitable? Madison O’Neill Intelligent and headstrong, university student Madison is ready to take on the world. She wants to be her own person, and definitely not turn into her mother, whom she often clashes with. The irony is Madison is very much a product of the rich waterfront suburb she’s grown up in, and can prove unattainable to a shy boy from the ‘burbs like Elias. Madison knows Elias is keen on her, but why give the game away when she can have more fun playing it.

GEORGIA FLOOD

Talented beyond her years, Georgia!s commitment to her craft is evident in

her diverse body of work. Runner-up for the 2013 Australians in Film Heath

Ledger Scholarship, her credits include the lead role of Alice Ross King in the

miniseries Anzac Girls for the ABC, for which she was nominated for Best

Actress at the Monaco Golden Nymph Awards. Other screen work includes

main cast roles in Tangle for Showtime, House Husbands, Wentworth and a

recurring guest in Home & Away.

Georgia trained at the Paris-based L!Ecole Internationale de Theatre Jacques

Lecoq and has undertaken Master Classes with Larry Moss. She made her

professional stage debut in Blackbird at the Melbourne Theatre Company

(MTC) and also appeared in the MTC and Sydney Theatre Company seasons

of Don Parties On, the sequel to David Williamson!s iconic Don!s Party, under

the direction of Robyn Nevin. Film credits include Laura Scrivano!s short The

Orchard and the feature I Am Evangeline, in which she plays the title role.

Georgia is soon to be seen in Arcadia for the Sydney Theatre Company and

in Here Come the Habibs, a new comedy for the Nine Network.

Since graduating from the prestigious NIDA in 1995, Michael has built a reputation for being one of Australia’s finest actors, appearing in numerous stage productions, films and

television programmes.

Michael has appeared in many iconic Australian television dramas and comedies, with roles

in SBS’ critically acclaimed East West 101 (Season 2), as well as Rake, At Home With Julia,

All Saints, Chandon, Stingers, White Collar Blue, Water Rats, Home and Away, The Alice, Blue Heelers, Young Lions and Comedy Inc. Michael has most recently been seen in The

Principal directed by Kriv Stenders, the ABC’s tense drama The Code as ‘Nasim Parande’,

the Tony Krawitz/Rachel Ward directed mini-series Devil’s Playground and Peter Andrikidis’

mini-series Catching Milat. Upcoming television series include Black Comedy (Season 2) and the highly anticipated second installment of The Code.

Michael’s film credits include the lead protagonist in The Combination, David Field’s outstanding and controversial directorial debut, as well as Alchemy Film Production’s The

Nothing Men. He has also garnered roles in international films Mask ll and Columbia

Pictures’ Stealth. Next year he will be seen in the New Zealand/UK coproduction 6 Days

and Abe Forsythe’s comedy Down Under.

Michael’s most recent theatre performance was with Performing Lines’ Missing the Bus to

David Jones. He performed with Sydney Theatre Company in A Streetcar Named Desire, playing the role of Steve alongside Cate Blanchett. This Liv Ullmann directed production

toured New York and Washington after its Sydney season, receiving critical acclaim.

Michael has also appeared in King Lear for the Sydney Theatre Company. Other theatre credits include The Gates of Egypt and Edmond with Belvoir, Coriolanus with Bell

Shakespeare, The Pugilist Specialist with Darlinghurst Theatre Company and Live Acts On

Stage with Griffin Theatre Company.

Camilla has work-shopped and performed many new Australian plays at the Australian National

Playwrights Conferences 1994, 1995, 2002, 2005 and The Sydney Theatre Company New Stages and continues to work on script assessment.

In 2004, Camilla spent time in Paris, writing an adaptation for the theatre of Whatever the Gods Do,

a memoir by Patti Miller. Camilla consulted with the author whilst writing the initial draft of the play.

Camilla returned to Paris in mid 2006 to direct Terra Australis (Music Theatre/ Chant de la Perre Rouge at the Australian Embassy, Paris 2006).

Camilla also has recently completed an MA (by research) at the University of Sydney in the

Performance Studies Department.

TYLER DE NAWI

Tyler was born in Sydney. As far back as he can remember, his influences

came from his father's love for The King of Rock & Roll; Elvis, King of the ring;

Ali, and Kung Fu extraordinaire; Bruce Lee. A late 80's baby soaking in bad

action films and fine music drove him to want to be a hero. Starting out by

spending weeks in his batman costume.

He had a humble upbringing but his adventurous mind led him to take up

styles of martial arts, then gymnastics, circus, dance, trying different careers

from carpentry, sales, security, architecture to being a professional

entertainer/dancer and more. One day a friend mentioned there was acting

class on in a local theatre, all those years of trying figure out what career to

choose, it never crossed his mind to even become an actor. And now he won't

look back.

Having starred in his debut role in "The Principal" alongside Alex Dimitriades

& Aden Young, then a lead role in an outrageous Channel 9 comedy

ensemble "Here Come The Habibs".

He says that he will enjoy riding this wave and continue to train in drama with

goals of going onto the big screen to fulfil his love for cinema.!

KAT HOYOS

Kat graduated with a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Theatre) from the University of Wollongong, and also completed her Cert IV at Brent St.

Most recently she has studied with Les Chantery at the Hub Studio, and is under the direction of Anthony Brandon Wong.

On screen credits include: “Body in the Yard” starring Luke Ford and

directed by Stephen Wallace and short films – notably “The Road Home” directed by Denie Pentecost produced by Benchmark Films.

“The Road Home” was accepted into the only academy accredited

international short film festival – Flickerfest 2014, and made its mark in other

festivals – St Kilda Festival (Best Achievement in Screenplay), The Mardi

Gras Film Festival (Best Filmmakers award), Sarasota Film Festival (World Premiere), and WOW Film Festival (Best Australian Screenwriter).

She has been featured in numerous TVC!s: Bonds, RTA, Pepsi Max,

MacDonalds and others with TV appearances on Kerri Anne, the

Australian Open Tennis final, the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and the MTV and ARIA awards.

On stage Kat has performed in: Jersey Boys the Musical (Francine and

others) – Australian and NZ tour, Hairspray the musical (u/s Dynamites) – Australian Tour, Bring it On The Musical (lead – Danielle) – Australian Tour.

Kat has performed in music clips and worked with choreographers Project Moda, The Squared Division, William A. Forsythe and more.

JASON BURROWS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) Executive Producer and Managing Director, Jason Burrows, established Jungle in his apartment in 2002 and has built it up to be one of the top TV, advertising, branded content and online production companies in the country. Jason’s Executive Producer television credits include the ABC comedy series The Moodys, A Moody Christmas, The Urban Monkey and The Elegant Gentleman’s Guide to Knife Fighting, the documentary, Between a Frock and a Hard Place, also for ABC, The Jack Awards, for Channel 7, as well as the the comedy documentary, The Super Dave Odyssey, for Channel 10. More recently, Jason was an Executive Producer on No Activity (Stan’s first original commission). His television commercial credits include over 200 spots for brands such as Telstra, Coca-Cola and Virgin Mobile, working with advertising agencies such as DDB, M&C Saatchi, BMF, TBWA Whybins, Publicis Mojo and Euro RSCG, receiving awards including a Yellow Pencil at the British D&AD Awards as well as two Silvers and two Bronze Lions at the Cannes International Advertising Festivals. Jason is currently an Executive Producer on Here Come the Habibs for Nine Network, and developing the feature-film, The Murderous Urges of Ordinary Women, with backing from Screen Australia.

BEN DAVIES (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER AND CO-CREATOR) Ben Davies is the creator and Executive Producer of the hit TV series Bondi Rescue. In its 11th season on Network Ten this summer, the series is Australia’s most successful factual TV export, screening in over 150 countries. Bondi Rescue has won a record 6 consecutive Logies. Ben's career in TV began as a ‘racer’ in the first series of Race Around The World (at the time, the most watched ABC series ever). Since then he’s worked in factual, documentary, and entertainment production. He graduated from COFA (UNSW) - Bachelor of Fine Arts, and received an MA (Honours) degree from the Australian Film, Television, and Radio School for his AFI nominated documentary, Truckies Don't Eat Quiche. Here Come the Habibs was bought to Ben by concept creator Rob Shehadie, soon after the pair met during production of Ben’s black comedy, Truth Is (short), in which Rob played a lead role. Ben’s long-time friends Trent O’Donnell, Jason Burrows, and Phil Lloyd - at production company Jungle - provided a natural home for Australia’s first commercial-network comedy in 15 years. PHIL LLOYD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER, CO-CREATOR, AND HEAD WRITER) Phil Lloyd is a writer and actor perhaps best known for his portrayal of existential critic, Myles Barlow, in the critically acclaimed ABC1 comedy, Review With Myles Barlow. The role earned him the AFI Awards for Best Performance in TV Comedy and Best TV Comedy for two years running. The show was also nominated for a Logie Award, and the

format was sold to the UK, Europe and the US, with a US series, Review, airing on the Comedy Channel in the US in 2014 and starring Andy Daly. Trent is the supervising and directing Executive Producer on New Girl season 4 for Fox TV in Los Angeles. He previously directed two episodes of Season 3 of New Girl in 2013. DARREN ASHTON: WRITER/DIRECTOR Darren is a highly experienced director and producer across television and film.

His television credits include Wonderland for Fremantle Media, Worst Year Of My Life Again for BBC and ABC Children, the second series of the ABC dramedy Bed of Roses, and both Rush and Offspring, for Endemol and Network Ten. Darren co-wrote and directed his first feature film Thunderstruck which was the story of four boys who made a pact to bury their best friend next to AC/DC original frontman Bon Scott. The film was distributed by Icon in 2005. Inspired by his daughters dance classes, Darren, along with writer Carolyn Wilson devised a story about pushy stage mothers and dance competitions. In 2007 this became the basis of Darren’s second film Razzle Dazzle starring Australian actress, Kerry Armstrong and UK comic Ben Miller. Razzle Dazzle has been selected for over twenty film festivals around the world, including Official Selection at the Berlin, Edinburgh, Los Angeles Independent Film Festivals and was the opening night film at the New York International Children’s Film Festival. More recently he was Executive Producer on Not Suitable For Children starring Ryan Kwanten (True Blood) and Sarah Snook (Predestination), directed by Peter Templeman. Also known in commercials for his comedic work, Darren has won numerous awards including the London International Advertising Award, New York Advertising Award, Singapore Advertising Award as well as receiving numerous Cannes nominations.

DAN MAXWELL

Dan is an award winning Melbourne based Director of Photography and

Steadicam Owner/Operator with over 20 years of on set experience. His

camera department credits include international and local projects ranging

from feature films to television dramas, documentaries and commercials. He

takes pride in a reputation for combining good creative vision with a calm and

professional demeanour, making him an excellent collaborating

cinematographer. He is a Full Member of The Australian Cinematographers

Society and is very fond of Wasabi Peas.

KYLS BURTLAND

Kyls is an award-winning composer of 40 films and 17 TV Series. She won

Best Score on graduation from AFTRS, and a nomination for Emerging Talent

of the Year by the Film Critics Circle.

She is the composer of ABC's high-rating Whitlam: Power and the Passion

(2014), and 'Brilliant Creatures' (2015) for BBC. Her other recent scores

include the Feature Film 'Touch' with Matt Day, Bondi Rescue, and Shane

Delia's Spice Journey for SBS. In 2013 Kyls wrote the music for VIVID

Festival!s magnificent projections on the Opera House, and created a 25

minute IMAX score for the The Shanghai Pavilion at World Expo, 2010.

Kyls is still the only person to win Australian Songwriter of the Year twice

through the National Song Contest. She has toured with The Beastie Boys,

Primus, and Bob Dylan, and played on Festival stages with Bjork and

Basement Jaxx. Her anthem for the 2007 Doha Games, sung by Aladdin star

Lea Salonga, was broadcast to 80 million people.

AMELIA GEBLER

Amelia is a stylist and costume designer for film, television and commercials. It is her passion for expression, story and character that motivate her in her career. Amelia has designed award winning films and television including AACTA winning Four, AACTA nominated Liebermans in the Sky, A Moody Christmas, The Checkout, The Hamster Wheel, Maximum Choppage, No Activity, Otherlife, After Birth, the Tropfest 2014 winner of Best Film, Bamboozled, and Unbroken directed by Angelina Jolie. She has styled campaigns for dozens of well known brands including Tourism Australia, Toyota, Coca Cola, Foxtel, and Virgin Australia, among others. Most recently, Amelia won the 2014 Australian Production Designer Guild award for Best Costume Design in a Television Drama for ABC’s The Moodys. More recently, she worked on the new six part comedy for Nine Network, Here Come the Habibs. Amelia has a firm belief that the language of style is an important communicative device and, harnessed correctly, can play a positive role in more vividly and creatively expressing identity.
