Be respectful—Be Responsible—Be Safe Dear Parents/ Guardians:
We have reached February and the halfway point of
the school year. January had some very cold
extremes in terms of the weather. We are hoping
for milder weather so our students can start
getting outside more and enjoying the fresh air.
Please ensure that your children are dressing for
the conditions; ski pants, mitts, hats and neck
warmers. We want to avoid having any child miss out
on going out for recess or receiving frostbite as the
weather can change so quickly.
Your child may have come home with one of our
Faraday t-shirts, bracelet or a Faraday plush
toy…..that is because he/she was caught doing one
of our anchors: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and
Be Safe. They were then entered to win a daily
draw. Our “Gotchas” ran over the weeks of January
4th-15th.
February is I Love to Read Month. This year
students will participate in a variety of activities as
a whole school. Please read further in the
Newsletter for more information about events
during I Love to Read Month.
Here are a couple of friendly reminders: School dismisses at 3:30 p.m. Children need to have
an after school plan that includes who is going to be
picking them up or where they will be going after
school.
Secondly, there is no parking allowed at the ramp at
the receiving doors. This area is reserved for
vehicles making deliveries and for school buses.
Please ensure that you leave this area clear.
Please remember to contact the school to inform us
if you child is going to be absent. While regular
attendance is very important, we want to encourage
you to have your child remain home if he or she is
sick. We ask this in order to avoid the spread of a
cold or the flu. Symptoms such as coughing and
fever are good indicators that your child may need
to remain home.
Finally, it is important that all parents remind their
children about road safety. The snowbanks are a
temptation for children to play on. However, there
is very little time for drivers to stop should young
ones fall into the street. Let’s work together to
keep our children safe.

NEWS FROM THE GYM PATROL REPORT
FARADAY LIBRARY SHELF
Congratulations to all the Grade 5 & 6 Volleyball
players who participated in this year’s
tournaments. Thank you to Mrs. Hoydalo, Mr.
Waytowich, Ms. Beilby, and Mr. Redekopp for
coaching, as well as our volunteer drivers.
The Volleyball Tournament dates were:
Jan. 26th-p.m. Grade 5 @ Garden Grove
Feb. 4th-a.m. Grade 6 @ Lansdowne
Our next intramurals will be Gr. 3 and 4 Floor
Hockey. Student sign up will begin next week.
Remember…Be Active! Be Healthy!
Mr. K. Pankiewich (Mr. P.)
Please send your child to school when patrols are on
post and make sure your child comes home
immediately after dismissal so they can cross with
the patrols. For your child/children’s safety, please
remind them to obey the patrols at all times.
Thanks for your diligence.
As the cold weather has arrived, we ask our parent
community to refer to the weather channel to
watch for hazardous weather conditions (channel
16 on MTS or channel 48 on SHAW). For the
safety of all our students, including our Patrol
Team, patrols will NOT be on duty in extreme
(hazardous) conditions as determined by
Environment Canada. (Colder than –30 with the
wind-chill). You can check online at Environment
Canada. On those occasions, we ask for the support
of our community to assist students to arrive at
school safely.
Thank you to all Patrols for a job well done!

February is proving a great month for learning in
the music room! Primary students are taking part
in the process of creating musical plays. From
brainstorming and writing to creating an original
song and making props, grades NK-3 will be busy
learning and having fun! The Intermediate
students are in full swing learning music theory and
applying it on the recorders. The buzz about the
spring concert has started, and soon we will start
working on the musical “No Strings Attached.”
The Choir is sounding great and will be singing the
new Faraday School song at assemblies and any
other events that pop up.
“Music is a world within itself, with a language we
all understand.”

LUNCH PROGRAM No Fees-No Spot
Lunch Program is a privilege
Please remind your children of the Lunch Program
expectations: staying in your seats, using quiet indoor voices, no trading lunches and respecting others. Thank you for this, as it helps to ensure their
safety and a smoother, happier environment for all.
Reminder that all fees are due between the 1st and
10th of every month.
Lunch Program does not have a microwave for students
so please remember we do not heat up lunches.
Weather permitting we still go outside and students
need a winter jacket, hat, mitts and boots. Parents
who pick up their child on a spur of the moment in the
morning, please notify the Lunch Program as we do
take attendance and will be looking for your child.
A big thank you to all Lunch Supervisors!!

February is I Love to Read Month at Faraday!
Students at Faraday will be enjoying a variety of activities in the month of February:
Everyone is encouraged to carry books around the school everywhere they go, such as Gym, Music, and to
the Computer Lab. They never know when they will be told to “Drop Everything and
Read” (D.E.A.R.).
Each class will be working together to create “The Funny Faraday Story”, a big book that will be on
display and available for the students to read in the Library.
Teachers have been paired-off and will be swapping classrooms to read to another grade.
Students are encouraged to apply on-line to “Reading Takes Flight” to get a Winnipeg Jets Player to
read to their class.
Teachers have also been provided with some in-class “I Love to Read” activities, such as story cubes
and book reports.
