Agni and Digestion
Stages in ghee making resemble Digestion
Unique concept developed by Vaidya Datar Shastri
• In the Treatment of chronic alcoholism, there is a verse
। क्षारोहि याति माधुय शीघ्रं अम्लोपसंहिा ।Ksharas dravyas (Alkaline herbs – Pachak Dravyas)
when combined in right proportion, neutralize Amla Dravyas.
Acid alkali titration in the labs
Acid alkali titration in the body
Amla- Kshara Siddhant useful in many diseasesIf
Amlata = Ksharata Ahara rasa will be neutral. If Amlata > Ksharata then Ama will be produced. It will
circulate throughout the body blocking many srotas causing many diseases.
Majority of the Autoimmune diseases can be seen Ayurvedically as Ama-genic diseases.
So treating ama by Pachana Dravyas becomes a treatment for many diseases.

Phalatrikadi Guggul
Ingredients - Guduchi, Kutki, Kirat, Neem, Triphala, Vasa, Guggul
• Guduchi, Kutki, Kirat, Triphala are Pachana Dravyas. They have Agni, Vayu and Akasha Mahabhutas • Kutki, Kirat, Neem are livoprotective, regenerative, so improve
liver function• Vasa, Guduchi, Triphala are Rasayana dravyas• Guggul works as a lekhana - scraping the blockage caused by Ama• Triphala, Kutki, and Kirat are laxative - remove Malas• This formula works mainly on Liver. Increases Ksharata, reduces
Ama and improves digestion.
Lashunadi Vati
Ingredients - Garlic, Saindhav, Trikatu, Hing• This formula helps in diarrhea. • Especially in rainy season, Aap element is increased,
agni is decreased. There is more Amlata in the system causing diarrhea. • All the herbs in the formula are Pachana - alkaline
herbs. They digest ama and reduce diarrhea. • This formula also is used in Amavata along with other
formulas. It stimulates Jatharagni and dhatu agnis reducing the swelling and pain.
Pachana YogIngredients – Ginger, Bilva, Musta, Ativisha, KutajaAs the name suggest, this formula does Pachana of Ama. It is “The formula” for IBS, UC, Crohn’s disease and many similar diseases. Ginger, Bilva, Ativisha, Musta – are Deepan/Pachana dravyasGinger, Musta, Ativisha are GrahiBilva, Musta, Kutaja – are KashayaHerbs in this formula digest ama, absorb fluids, solidify stools and help reduce frequency and urgency.
Navak Guggul
Ingredients – Trikatu, Triphala, Musta, Vidanga, Chitrakmool, Guggul
• This formula is mentioned in Yogaratnakar for Medorog.
• Due to diet/lifestyle habits, Jatharagni becomes weak. Due to chronicity, Meda dhatu agni also becomes weak so the quantity of meda increases, Quality decreases. Bad quality meda, being very heavy and sticky, clogs other srotas. Person starts feeling weak because other dhatus become weak.
• Majority of the herbs are Pachana Dravyas. Guggul is lekhana dravya. They strengthen meda dhatu agni. The quality of meda improves, stickyness decreases, opens up srotas of other dhatus, quality and quantity of other dhatus improve. Person regains strength and energy.
Rajani yog
Ingredients – Girij, Turmeric• This formula is opposite to above formulas. It helps when
there is more ksharata (Teja mahabhuta) in the body.
• Due to excess Teja mahabhuta, moist quality of Aap and the heavy, dense quality of Prithvi becomes less. Body becomes dry,
• Due to excess heat, body burns, skin becomes darker, dhatus become weak
• Girij is Cooling, Astringent(Kashaya), dense, so reduces heat. Turmeric is Amla vipaki, so neutralizes excess ksharata (heat).
Paripathadi yog
Ingedients – Paripath, Pashanbhed, Gokshur, Punarnava, Dhamasa, Rose• Best used in the decoction form. • The herbs in this formula are amla dharmi. They reduce
ksharata (excess heat) from the body• Herbs in this formula have Prithvi and Aap mahabhutas,
so they reduce Teja mahabhuta• This can be used when clients have a H/O Jaundice,
Measles, or they work as Chefs, Firefighters or anything related to excess heat
