Bearing Block Configuration
Hepco’s LBG Linear Ball Guides offer a comprehensive range of sizes, precisions and pre-load options designed to meet abroad range of applications where quality, accuracy, capacity, high reliability and interchangeability across internationalstandard are considered prime requirements.
The LBG range has been designed and constructed around the Four Row Angular Contact ball track concept, thereby offeringdistinct user benefits such as low friction and reduced differential slip, higher loads, installation compliance and the ability toabsorb minor errors on the mounting surfaces without compromising smooth movement and system performance (Figure 1).
In keeping with Hepco tradition the LBG range offers several unique design features setting it apart from other ball based linearguideways. The newly developed ball recirculating system has excellent performance characteristics resulting in – reducedfriction, low noise and smooth movement. As with all bearing based recirculating systems it is important to ensure that theblocks are kept well lubricated during operation and regular lubrication intervals are observed.
The built-in Felt Wiper within the LBG block aids lubrication helping to maintain a positive oil film at the bearing contactsurfaces (Figure 2).
Extended life and longer intervals between lubrication maintenance can be achieved by fitting the Oil Tank Reservoir (OTR).This unique feature, only available from Hepco, will ensure that a constant flow of oil is maintained within the bearing blockand at the bearing contact surfaces (see page 12).
Where debris protection is considered important, Hepco offer a simple and cost effective Adhesive Protective Cover whichprotects the top surface of the rail giving a clear, well finished appearance whilst covering potential debris traps (see page 12).

Basic Static/Dynamic Load Rating Co & C
When a linear Guide System is subjected to extreme load or impact, permanent deformation can occur between the racewayand rolling elements. Should deformation become excessive the running quality, smoothness and efficiency of the Guidewaywill be impaired.
The definition of basic load rating Co is stated as – a static load of constant magnitude acting in one direction under whichthe sum of the deformation of the elements and race way equals 0.0001 times the diameter of the rolling elements. Basicdynamic load rating C is the load of constant magnitude acting in one direction that results in nominal life of 50km for aGuideway using balls.
Basic Static Moment Rating Ms, M, Mv
The basic moment ratings in the Ms, M and Mv direction are stated as static moment capacities in the load rating charts. See pages 5-7.
Safety Factor – Static : fa
The static safety factor fa should be considered related to the basic load rating Co, the acting load and the operatingcondition. Reference value of the static safety factor fa in given operating conditions is stated as follows:

Mounting Factor : fbIn the Guideway mounting process, where the elements are in close contact it can be difficult to obtain a uniform distribution ofthe applied load across all the bearing blocks due to mounting face variations. Where two or more Blocks are used in closeproximity or where there is a mounting surface variation – multiply the stated basic load ratings C and Co by the mounting factor.

Raceway Hardness (HRC) : frLinear Guides operate at their optimum load carryingcapacity with a raceway harness of HRC 58 to 64.Where the raceway hardness is lower than HRC 58 thehardness factor fr should be applied. Hepco LBG Guideshave a hardness value in excess of HRC 58, therefore a frfactor of 1.0 can be used.
Nominal Life Formula : LNominal Life L (km) is stated as the distance that can betravelled by a set of Linear Guides where 90% of thenumber operated under identical conditions show no signof failure.
Guideway Temperature Factor : ftWhere Linear Guides are working in temperatures inexcess of 100˚C, a temperature factor ft should be used.
Note: Where the Guideway is subjected to temperaturesgreater then 80˚C please contact our TechnicalDepartment as consideration will have to be given to theseals, lubrication and end plates.

Oil Tank Reservoir LBG--TRecirculating ball guides require positive lubrication tofunction to their full potential. Fitting the optional Oil TankReservoir offers a cost effective and efficient means ofensuring lubrication is present between the recirculatingballs and rail raceway contact points.
This positive lubricating system, unique to Hepco,enhances system life whilst increasing maintenance andlubrication intervals (see note 1).
Protective Rail Cover LBG--CThe steel stick-on Protective Cover is a neat and effective means of covering the rail, thereby offering a smooth top surfacewhich enhances overall appearance whilst removing dust and debris traps.
The unique applicator offers a quick and easy method of applying the strip – the end fixing blocks give an additional securemethod of location.
